| I'm not a experience breeder, I've just bred my Rubi (Rubie's namesake ) three times but I don't think it's possible to feel the puppies until she's put on a lot of weight and she's nearing labour. You say she's getting wider on her back, couldn't she just be getting a little fatter because she's perhaps overeating, not getting enough exercise or simply due to her age? Like almost everybody said I do believe ten is too old to have puppies, even more so if she's a first time mom. Please keep posting and let us know how everything is getting on. I wish you luck. | 10 years and having first litter Yes Cottage cheese is a good thing to give. It will supplement the mother with calcium and help the babies too. Cottage cheese is a good form of bacteria. It will get rid of the bad bacteria in the system. The dogs that are pregnant need this. It's a form of acidophilus. I would offer her a vitamin supplement too, this will help with milk production She will need this at 10 years of age and having her first litter. Also because of her age she may have low calcium. This can cause her not to have her babies normally and to have a C-section. I have been educated as to the fact that a dog needs to have a litter before the age of 3 years to have it normally. Her pelvis may not give to be able to have them normally. It may be fixed, because of her age. I would be prepared to have a C-section. Do you know how to read a thermometer? I would start taking temp at 8 in the morning and 8 in the evening after the pups drop. This will be about 3 days before they are due. A good question is how do I know when the pups drop. You feel down the back every day. When you feel a Spine, this is when her babies drop and then she will be getting ready to have them. She will almost stop eating. Normal temp is 102 degrees. Watch for it to drop to 99 degrees then she will have the babies in the next 24 hours. I would advise you to go to the vet then. Let the vet oversee her with labor in case she needs help with a C-section. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | A dog is only pregnant for 63 days (9 weeks). From what you say it sounds like she could be pretty far along. In heat a while ago...when was that? It would help us here to help you if we had a better idea as to how far along she is. When was her last heat cycle,and/or when did she and the male mate? Count 63 days from that date...GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

| This thread is from Aug, I think if her baby was pregnant she would of had them by now or be close to having them. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Ugh I hate when I post on a thread not realizing that it was started a while ago. I saw on her profile that she's only had 6 posts, but was signed on yesterday. I'd love to know how things turned out.

| Saw your post and talked to my vet.... Hi, I'm new to Yorkietalk and not very experienced yet,but I do know that I'd never breed a dog at 10(accidents do happen, I understand that) Good luck, you could get her spayed if she is pregnant, you'd lose the puppies too,it would be like an abortion for dogs, which can only be done for dogs who are early on in the pregnancy.
