| Relatives after you having a Litter, Do they... Ask for a free one, or discount ... how do you handle this? I have like tons of relatives who expect or want a discount or free puppy. It makes me feel awful as well awkward. How does everyone handle this? I try to explain there are fees such as vet visits , shots, dew claws, docking ect... but they are like.. well I will pay for whatever cost for the puppy "I" would get.. there Shots and such.. .. making harder for me to make them understand.. then Of course I tell them the possible chances of a C - section and vet visit for momma and such... Grrrrrrrrrr its just frustrating.

| I am not a breeder. This just happened. I however have been researching and considering.. but Wow, EVeryone is coming out asking now that they know she is PG. Geez, she would not even have enough puppies to go around.

| I had the same problem at first. Everyone wanting the family discount. I would give them a discount but they would have to wait until the other puppies sold and if there was one that didnt sell then they could get it reasonably cheap or give it to them if I was just wanting to place it. If I thought they wouldnt make a good home for it then they would get the same answer anyone would get, A BIG NO. One of the girls I used to work with called the other day and wanted to buy one. She has a 7 year old and a new born baby. I had to tell her no even though she is a friend. It was hard my I have to look out for my babies. Last edited by CO_yorkie_momma; 07-03-2007 at 05:37 PM. |

| YES! This happened a LOT with us!! It was horrible....at first we would just laugh and pretend they were telling a joke and tell them the price we are asking. We would give a discount, but that is all. It is a horrible thing to go through...and it makes you feel horrible.

| I am not a breeder so this is just what I think I would do. First, if someone asked for a discount I would be less likely to give it because, unless they are financially strained, they need to be willing to pay full price. Even over the money I can only think of one person in my famly that I would ever consider letting have a Yorkie puppy from me. Everyone less it seems doesn't have time for one, has big dogs that they don't control around small ones, have kids, feed their animals not such good food or too much food... I would make all family follow the same rules and use the same contract so I know they would be getting a good home. If one of my family members met all that criteria and I wanted them to have one just because, I might give them one for free.

| I tell everyone of my relatives and friends...that I don't give anything away....and the reason is because anything given is usually not appreciated or taken care of....most don't like it....but, that's the way it is. Not totally true, because I'll give them the shirt off my back....but, not my dogs.

| This is an interesting thread because I am not rich and was really discouraged with the prices of purchasing a yorkie these days when i began my search. I am also a person who, when i don't have enough money for something and my heart is in it, or when i know i am on a certain budget i will ask if there is a discount because it never hurts to ask... at the same time once i saw the prices of yorkies and found a breeder here in PR i simply was up front and told her my budget from the beginning. Funny thing about this thread , when i read it first thing i though was the rule, you never do business with friends or family, and i truly believe in that. If i was a breeder i would much rather someone do as i did and at least come to me with the amount that could afford and then work out some kind of deal from there, rather than asking for something for free. when my cousin started out as a cosmetologist i gave her like 30 bottles of OPI nail polish which was like 7 bucks a bottle at the time. My only request was that she do my nails every now and again since i am not a girlie girl and don't really have any business buying nail polish i barely use... needless to so after giving her over 200 buck worth of nail polish she soon forgot her commitment to me... never do business with relatives if u can help it. I say if you want to give away a Yorkie gift make sure you do it on a holiday at least maybe, i dunno????? and it doesnt help that Yorkies dont have very many pups in a liter Last edited by La Princesa; 07-03-2007 at 07:53 PM. |

| Yes, it sure does not help that Yorkies dont have many pups in a litter.. and wow, I have my Mother who wants one for free..... (But truly, is not capable of handling one) I have 3 sisters and a neice who wants one... but for free or MAJOR discount. I would not mind giving ONE pup at a discount.. but with you having EVERYONE it seems asking... Who do you choose... Makes me want to choose none... so I dont hurt anyones feelings.. Personally, this is how I am... I dont ask.. Not even my family... I feel if they want me to have it then they will offer, no matter what it maybe. Its known that they all want a Yorkie.. They have said it ever since I have gotten mine. I just pray there is no hard feelings when its all said and done. My hubby says I worry to much on how everyone thinks and feels.

| Hi, this is just a suggestion and something that I would do. I would tell them since right now that you are not sure how many puppies she will have and that in any case you would have to sell them at say $1,200.00 (just for instance). Then judging on how many you have, whoever can give you at least 8 or 9 hundred can keep one. Make it seem like big discount (which actually would be a huge discount in any case). That's only fair that they get charged something because I also agree that you appreciate something more when you have paid a great amount for it. I know that for me it was no so much the amount, but rather knowing how hard we work to get that money to begin with. Besides, it is not cheap to own a Yorkie. If they can't pay to get one, can they afford to have one. Sure they are very cute, but we all know that they have driven us crazy at one point or another. And if they can pay and just don't want to since your "family" well then that's not fair to you either. I come from a very large family. And there are some that will milk you for all that you've got sometimes. I've had similar experiences with my business. All I can say, you gotta watch out for yourself and your puppies first and then worry about pleasing others. Good Luck and let us know what happens.

Donating YT 11K Club Member | WOW I can imagine and I can see this happening to you because I am not even a breeder and I only have two dogs, 1 boy, 1 girl and people still ask me to have them. YES they ask me if I can give them one, im like wth?!? Even before I got London and I only had Teddy this lady in my building told my mom if you get a girl can you give me one of the babies? Like who told her I was getting a girl to breed?? I just got them both as pets and not to breed, I hate that everyone assumes mine are having babies just because they are boy and girl, they are brother and sister for goodness sake! So yes I can see that happening and I would get mad if people were to ask me for free puppies if I ever did breed, if they were related or not. I can understand like a brother or sister asking me for one at a lower price, maybe for free if I know they are really good with them but not ppl that haven't contacted me in yrs
