| I hope that I am not rehashing things but it seems that the answer is still up in the air a little. Green is typically bad before a pup is born, right? I can't tell if you guys are saying it is bad before the first pup or before any of the puppies. My Westie had a litter a few years ago and she had no green until her 2nd puppy....but it was so dark that it looked black with very little bright green in it. She continued to have 2 others after that and all 4 were healthy sweet little babies. The dark green was thick and it was passed along with the second puppy. Does this sound right? I guess I am just confused as to whether you guys are saying that green is not okay during the whelping at all, just after all pups are born. It's also possible that I am just having a super blonde night and not reading what is being said too clearly. Thanks! Tammy |

No, of course not...I was typing my response while you were typing yours. It was the comparison to the Royal Bloodline. Forgive me, it's getting late here and it caught me off guard! | |

Before the first puppy. Black with a little green....could have been she retained the placenta from the first. Now here's one. When my Tahlulah was whelped a year ago.....Go-Go presented the first bubble, then Go-Go decided she didn't like that thing between her legs and became preoccupied with removing it. Contractions stopped, waited a 45 minutes and nothing. 1/4 cc Oxy (with vet and breeder's instructions).....immediately she delivered a puppy, an hour later another puppy.....then no contractions....felt her abdomen....and lower....felt no sign of any other puppy, cleaned Go-Go up and put puppies to her, covered her up and began watching her....1/2 hour later saw her tail going up and down and walked over to the whelping area and 2 rear legs were there, Tahlulah was whelped without a placenta (the 1st bubble that had appeared was hers, she'd been in the horn for 3 hours without a placenta worked on her and revived her. She was in distress, no green fluid and she'd been in the horn for 3 hours without a place. So, there are times when you have no alert.

| Mary Ann, Obviously, you don't know better and now I know where your daughter, Stephanie learned her manners. I have read my posts again and I simply do not see anything disrespectful to Mary with Mardelin. We agreed to disagree and that is OK. However, it is not OK for anyone including you to speak to another as you have done especially when it is none of your business. I have repeatedly seen new people on this forum chastised, ridiculed and made to feel not welcome on this site and it is not right. Just because you have been breeding dogs for thirty years does not make you any better, smarter or give you any more privledge than anyone else posting on this site. I am through with your cat fight, so Back off Barbie! |

| Boy it does get nuts around here!!! Okay so let's try to sum this up shall we? There is a thick, blackish green, non odorous fluid that comes form the placental separation. If this is observed before the whelping of the first pup than it is probably cause for concern. If it follows the whelping of each pup it is simply indication of blood breaking down from the separation site of the placenta of the pup that was just born. This green fluid is not a part of the clear fluid that the pups has been living in (water sack). If green is present in vomit or observed in copious amounts within the water it is cause for alarm and doesn't represent the normal lochia that is present at whelping. Does that sound correct? Let's all play nice now. By the way Mary Ann, Stephanie is beautiful!

I've never seen you get upset before, remind me not to get on your bad side.....I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end your wrath. But, then again it takes along time for you to get upset.....some people just don't know when to leave well enough alone and begin personal attacks.
