Yes, and those breeders can recite it backwards and forwards....tell you about every dog within that pedigree; it's good points it's bad points....what it has thrown when breed....

Natalienicole you have a lot of research and learning ahead of you before breeding and some day you will get there -just first - please learn everything you can about our standard, go to shows, and study, study, study. I stated my love of yorkies at your same age and now that I am old (my kids are all grown) I can look back and be glad that I had some great mentors that were willing to take me under their wings and share their knowledge and love of our breed. I can't possibly repay them for all that they did. If one cares for the breed they will share what they know to novices that truly want to learn and protect our breed. And this is what is happening here - thanks to everyone that is explaining why limited registration is really a good thing! :thumbup: I just wish more people would listen and understand too.

Thank you ladies for the educational answeres. Now I think I'm going to buy the dog I was inquiring about :D , because he is on limited registration, I too thaught it was because breeders didn't want competition (stupidity on my part), but now the way you guys explained it makes PERFECT sense ;who wants their bloodlines screwed up by some Jane Doe I know I sure wouldn't.

:cool: Well I don't want to cause a ruckus but.... aren't dogs sold on limited reg. those that do not fit the breed standard? too small ,too long, some kind of small defect or deviation from standard? If not wouldn't that dog be held for someone who will show the dog?That is what you are trying to do(preserve the breed standard) so you wouldn't place a pup with show qualities in a pet home with or without full reg. right?and in so doing you sell ones that don't fit the standard they came from your litter and need to be re-homed.well that said when the perspective buyer gets the dog and breeds it with any yorkie well that is how you get dogs that do not fit the standard and are awkard.SO there is no guarantee about any dogs, just the breeders determination to do her/his professional best and learn all that they can.I read here before that even when you have a dog and bitch that is found free of genitic defects you can still get a pup that has one or more problems.WHERE DO THOSE PUPS GO? to the buyer? and if so are they spayed/neutered before leaving because we all know people will breed without papers and sell much cheaper. Or do we not care about those pets because by not having papers they can't trace back to your lines?

I'm confused by what you are asking--glad to see I am not the only one ;)--but I'll take a stab at it. What you have described here is what breeders try to avoid. Limited reg will (hopefully) prevent the dog from being bred, or the dog is altered before leaving the breeder or there are certain stipulations written into the sales agreement set up (hopefully, again) to legally require the new owner to have the dog altered.

ok sorry to ask another question. but the pedigree thing is that what you can pay more for when you register your puppy with akc. thats what they are talking about right. you can buy the gold or silver package for more and it comes with the pedigree and some other stuff? my breeder lady supposedly mailed my papers to me today so i should get them soon and was wandering i thought it would be interesting to have if that was infact what i would be getting.

I think the only thing you will be getting is the litter registration for your puppy. You will take that and name your puppy and send in your money and that is when you decide which packet you want. I seriously doubt if she did that for you. That will be up to you to do.

I think what you should be getting (actually, you should have gotten them when you got the dog) is the application you will send off to get a packet like you have described.

what im asking is i send the papers i get from the breeder off with 20 dollars and i found somewhere on teh akc website their were otehr packages i could order for more money. i think one came with the perdigree thing right thats where it shows the parents, grandparents right? or is that something else.

I understand what you are saying...I think:) You're saying that puppies with defects, or not to breed standard should be sold with limited registration. And that even though a dog is sold with limited registration doesn't necessarly mean that it won't be bred, because in most circumstances, if Joe, or Bubba is going to backyard breed or is a puppy mill then, they really don't care if the dog has papers or not, they can still sell the puppies for less money, or register them to another club...So it comes down to, who these breeders are selling their puppies to and do you trust them with your lines, limited registration or not. I don't personally like that someone would say that their puppies are sold with limited registration no matter what. I think there are honest people out there who want to breed, and if you trust this person and know what they are breeding your lines to (assuming that the lines are good, and the pup is a good representation of the breed) then I see no reason not to give them full registration. After all, someone gave "you" a chance, and if all dogs were sold on limited registration then there would be no more yorkies right? And that would just be sad! I don't know if I'm helping or stirring the pot? This is just my opinion and should be taken as just that.:)

And those types of honest people are not the ones that cause the problems and worry ethical breeders. But in order for the breeders to be able to trust the new owners, they have to be able to trust them, right? Which means the new, prospective owners have to prove their dedication and moral stance on breeding, right? That is where mentoring comes into play. That is not where the issues with limited and full registration is.
Yes, everyone had to be given a chance...but they had to 'pay their dues' for lack of better term first. I did it. I'm sure others have as well. Just being willing to fork over the $$$ doesn't give you the right to breed. You've heard the saying, "We reserve the right to refuse service..." Well, same goes for breeders.
But I do understand what you are getting at. Responsibility falls back on the breeder to take whatever measures neccessary to ensure the pup will NOT be bred when it leaves.
