| I also would like to add that a $1,000.00 stud fee is unreasonable in the first place! For that amount of money the stud should have many championship titles. I know of show breeders that charge under $500.00 stud fee to breed to their champions.

| I'm hoping to get one of these males (Yo) and am working with Jessica to come down to Tucson to meet with them. I don't care if they don't have papers. I'm never going to breed him anyway...he's going to be my pet and my life companion. Papers shmapers.

| It seems to me that she is being unfair to you. Seeing there was no writing agreement who's to say that her stud done the deed anyway. I no going down this road would,nt be moral but i dont think the breeder has many of those anyway. I myself think that she is due her stud fees, am sure that if u had a bitch to give her you would do this. I also think that if she doesnt want fees then a boy is a good enough payment. Anyway i hope you 2 can resolve this dispute and maybe next time you want to breed your bitch you will not use this breeder. |

| I was always under the impression that with offering stud you either get the price of one puppy OR pick of the litter?? I guess I am way off base there...learn something new every day lol... I guess the lesson learned is to have a written contract... What would happen in the event that someone wanted pick of the litter and there was only one pup?? Dawn |

Yes, a written contract would be the best, but remember a contract is only as good as the 2 people signing. The best thing is to know and trust the person you are dealing with. I used a stud from my breeder/mentor, I had 1 female in the litter. By rights it was hers. When it came time to pick, she said there was no way she was taking my only female and said she'd wait until my next litter, which she did. I didn't use her stud, but she got pick of the litter.

| I would rather pay a stud fee & keep my puppies. Most stud for $200-$500 and then you get to choose your price & homes for the puppies. |

| The stud fee is usually dependent on the stud you're using. If the stud is unproven, the stud fee should be lower. If a highly sought after stud, a Champion, #1 Yorkie in the country stud fee may be as a couple of Thousand Dollars. There are different ways breeder/exhibitors place a fee on a stud.

| I completely agree with this part! For $1000 I would think that this stud must have won many championships and/or produced many champions!

| My condolences for the loss of some of your puppies and your experience with the stud dog's family. Breeding is such a "what if" proposition that it is hard to predict exactly what is going to happen. Before we bred Molly we looked at a few studs and their pedigrees with record of puppies produced. All the stud owners wanted a "fee for service" which was paid at the time of service. The stud owner we found was very professional and showed us the contract that if even one puppy was produced it was considered a successful breeding. If the breeding did not produce any pups then the next stud fee would be included. He is a proven male with a very high track record and excellent pedigree. We paid $800 for the stud fee. He is studded out every few weeks and all tested for the STD- Brucellosis. Breeding is such a high risk situation. I hope everything works out and you are able to negotiate something better. If not, I think I would just pay the money and chalk it up to a costly learning experience. Good Luck to you.
