| Is she pregnant??? I'm brand new to this site and I happened upon because I'm very confused if my 1 1/2 year old (Paisley) is pregnant. I bred her, and if I'm correct on the day I think they actually mated, today marks Day 63. I've been convincing myself that she is pregant, and then that she's not back and forth this entire time. She's 6.5lbs, and she didn't get much bigger, which is the main reason I didn't think that she was. But the reason I started thinking that she was pregnant was the change in her temperment. She's always been a very calm dog, but in the last 2 weeks she hasn't wanted to leave my side and would much rather lie in my lap and sleep instead of anywhere else, which is very unusual. She's usually very independent. She also vomited the "yellowish foam" I read about, and she does have milk. I started checking her temperature last night, and it was 99.4, then it droped to 98.8, but just now it's back to 99.8! I'm so confused...Can someone help?? |

| Welcome to YT! I'm not a breeder but just out of curiousity did you actually take her to the vet for them to tell you whether she's pregnant or not? That' is probably the best way of knowing whether she's pregnant or not because dogs can have false pregnancies. They will still have milk, have temperature fluctuations, temperament changes, swollen tootie, and everything except the puppies. Did you monitor the mating closely, did they actually tie?? No offense but this should have been something you researched and checked out right after their mating, not right before her potential due date.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Take her into a vet today and have x-rays done. This will tell you for sure and also how many pups and if she'll be able to deliver safely. Do you have a mentor? Is this your first time to whelp a litter?

| Yes it is my first time. I've done all sorts of research...before and after the breeding. One vet (my usual) said she wasn't pregnant after feeling of her belly, but after getting responses from you guys, I'm headed to another one right now! I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you all so much!!! |

| My vet took x-rays and told me Missy was not pregnant. But she had 7 puppies! Now I have a new vet. |

| Wow! That is crazy! Was her belly very firm? That was what made both vets say immediately that she was not pregnant. 2 different ones said it was a false pregnancy. It's just crazy that she is still doing everything that I've ever read or seen people post that were the "signs" she would deliver soon! She even started vomiting again today after we got back from the vet. I still trust them, I just think that it's very strange. Are false pregnancies common? |

| My mom's dog just went through a false pregnancy. It was very sad to watch as it put alot of emotional strain on her. She had all the symptoms of a pregnancy but we knew without any doubt that she was not pregnant. Her stomach got big like one who is pregnant, and her attitude changed. She even produced milk. What was really sad was that she had a toy that she thought was her "baby" and she carried it everywhere and was very protective of it. It took awhile for her to get through it and it took a long time for the milk to dry up. She is now spayed and we are so happy we will never have to go through that again!!

I think maybe my vet (at that time) was using old equipment or something. I could understand missing one or two pups, but seven? Doesn't seem right. | |

| To Missy's Mom: Glad you have a new vet. You never do an x-ray before Day 50 it is very dangerous (and your old vet did two???). The puppies skeletons don't become calcified enough to show up on an x-ray until late stage pregnancy that's why the diagnosis was wrong. To Paisley's Mommy, I think false pregnancies are fairly common. I have never had a female that didn't look obviously pregnant at least 2 weeks before delivery. At this point you can even feel the pups moving around. Expectant mommies waddle and the weight gain is obvious. |

| Thank you very much! I'm glad to know it's a little more common than I thought. We look forward to February when she'll come in again and we can try one more time! |

| Expose her to the male on Day 9 or 10 after the bleeding starts and is no longer red, check daily when you suspect it is time for her to come into heat so you can best judge timing. When she allows mating, then rest one day and repeat mating again - some rest one more day and repeat one more time. I usually just do the two matings to lower the risk of premature babies, but the third mating might help to insure pregnancy. It does no good to breed more than once per day. Good luck, next time. It will be here before you know it and 2 months isn't a long gestation period (pregnancy) so it's never that big of a deal if it doesn't take. |
