| I also wouldn't blatantly go against his wishes. I have found after 40 years of marriage if you can just quietly and consistently tell him what you want and why, he will eventually give in. No whining allowed. I think that husbands think ( and maybe rightly so) that we are impulsive and don't fully understand the complications. I really want a Maltese pup but it is strictly an emotional issue. I have the cutest Yorkie in the world (doesn't everyone?) and we do plan to do more traveling (have a son & family in MD). We have taken Little Bit with us but I don't really like staying at only hotels/motels that will accept dogs, not being able to go into a nice restaurant or take tours etc. when I'm traveling. As sweet & tiny as she is, it still dampens the fun of traveling. Next week we are going on a cruise & they won't take her there either. So its off to the doggie kennel with me worried the whole time about her. She does affect our freedom to do things we want to do & he is afraid that 2 would be twice as bad. Also, I have heard that Maltese need a lot of grooming. Between she & I both having our hair & nails done regularly, its a big expense and time consumer. So I'm waiting for the Maltese. I'm not sure exactly what I'm waiting for, maybe when we no longer do as much traveling? For someone to drop a cute little Maltese in my yard? Anyway good luck to you and remember that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Oh, but wait, it wasn't a flie you wanted, was it? |

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | I wanted a yorkie. Hubby said NO. I went and got the pup anyway. He got mad and he got over it. Hasn't caused friction in our marriage. But, my husband is layed back. Doesn't sound like yours is.

| I think that once he realizes you won't be spending $1500 on a pup, if you buy one locally, he will probably not be so upset by it. Be like me, I told my fiance when I was coaxing him into the thought of us getting a pup...well I get lonely when you are at work (we work different shifts) that kinda worked for me LOL

| YOu know, my hubby really didn't want any more dogs. While my lab was still living he would warn, after this one is gone no more pets... Well our lab died and 2 years later I wanted a yorkie, and started showing him pics on the computer...My daughter was very excited about it and hubby was not. He got upset with me for pushing the issue, so i backed off. Only when he played with one at the pet store did he change his mind... He LOVES this little dog. Lets him lick his face! (NEVER IN 25 YEARS OF MARRIGE HAS HE LET ANY PET LICK HIS FACE!) Don't go behind his back... He wants you to respect him. He will come around in time. Buy a yorkie book and read up on them when he is around... Show hm the pics and if you go to the mall see if there are any there to play with!

| I paid $949 for Grayson, and really I am paying not my husband I don't mean this in a bad way I wanted him so badly I said I would pay and he agreed. How you say no to that sweet face! I would check around and start by calling your local vets that is how we got several names and numbers. Plus it is always so much better to actually see the babies in person. Can't get personality from a photo! Good luck on your hunt and I look forward to seeing pictures in the future!

| The price you pay is a small comparsion to the joy you will recieve from a pet. He/she will bring you as much happiness as most things in your life. |

| Just wait a while and you'll probably find one cheaper. Or buy yourself a yorkie if he wont.

| Your marriage is more important than a dog. Yes, even a Yorkie. Do not go against his wishes, please! Your husband is probably just seeing the down side of getting a puppy, knowing that is is a 12+ year commitment and really does change things in your life. Don't get too down about it. Sometimes those men are just jealous. He may think the pup will "steal" some of his attention....? Anyway, marriage first, kiddo. Even if he DID give you the money with conditions, your marriage is first. Again, I'm probably in the minority, but so be it. I'm staying there. |

| What are his reasons for not wanting a dog? Does he have valid points? Are you both working long hours, do you have the time for one? Has he ever had a dog in his life..childhood? Im just curious to why he is so against it? My hubby is away for a few months and I just put a deposit down on number 4..I was talking to him via instant messanger and told him and hes was so excited too...I couldnt ever have a non-dog man. Maybe you two could sit down together and write a pro/con list and see which one is bigger? Does he think hes going to get stuck doing the work with the dog? I dont think I would go behind his back..but also I dont think he should forbid you..your a grown woman not his child. Find out the valid reasons he has and listen to his concerns, maybe if he could see the other side of things he will agree?? Do you know anyone with a yorkie that you could 'babysit' for?? Dawn |
