| ![]() I'm so sorry. I just can't imagine what you and MaeMae are going through. I think it is a good idea to let her say goodbye to her babies, to help her with some type of closure.

| ![]() I am sooo sorry...allow MaeMae to see the pups and lay with them for a few minutes to realize they are gone. My moms would freak out if a pup disappeared, but when I left it in the bed for awhile and it cooled, the mom understood and would push it aside. It is hard to do this, but animals understand and accept death when allowed to take it in..I wish you did not have to endure this..so sorry. |

| ![]() A couple of ideas: -Leave the passed pups w/ mom for as long as you can stand. If her mood towards them doesn't change by the end of the day, I'd take them away. If you see progress in her mood (in noticing that something is wrong and leaving them alone longer and longer), leave them as long as you feel necc. based on her response. -Call you veterinarian and local animal shelter. See if there are kittens that were abandoned that you can foster and allow to nurse on her! I THINK OPTION TWO IS THE BEST of all. Quite successful and your girl will transition much better. Death is a part of life, yet you may be able to help her out by finding her "babies" to replace hers. There are many youngings out there looking for a nipple that are currently being bottle fed. If she's got milk, there's your best option. imo. |

| ![]() I did leave the puppies with her after they passed so she will know..... she knew something was wrong cause she kept flipping them and shaking them in her mouth..... I gave her a moment but I was afraid if I left them it will make it worse. So she was crying for them for an hour..... I decided to take her outside the house and go to the park.... which she loves. We went out.... walked around... she greeted people and we went to the park. I have a huge park around my house and nobody is there.... we ran together... I took her off her lead and she was right behind me on every turn. She usually stays close but will like to explore... today she stayed right on my heel and would not leave me. She looked like she was having fun...... I don't know.... she seemed like for a moment she was happy. I stayed out with her for a few hours....... Now we are home and she isn't looking for the babies... but I can't leave her anywhere for she will cry and whine (not like her). I can't even clean and do the laundry cause she just wants to sit on my lap. She will follow me and cry and claw at my legs to pick her up. She won't sleep on her own.....So that's what she is doing now..... sitting on my lap and sleeping..... she has not slept well either for the last few days so I know she is tired. MaeMae is a BIG sleeper.... she never wants to wake up on any other given day. She is my perfect companion. Thank you all! There's not that many people I can talk to about this besides my mentor who would understand. Even my hubby, bless his heart, is very sweet but I know he just can't relate and feels bad when am this emotional. Thank you all for letting me have an outlet. This is a great forum. |

| ![]() The female I had who lost her pup went through the clingly stage too .. I think it a hormonal thing. She stay so close to me ..that she about tripped me several time. And she slept with me at nite for awhile. When her milk started to dry up she became less and less clingly. She started playing more and more with the other dogs. She will get back to her old self, it will take a little time. |

| ![]() I am so very sorry for your loss. I know it hurts. I am sending hugs your way. It is highly probable that MaeMae is taking her cue from you. Dogs are highly receptive to body language, and it is very possible that MaeMae is picking up from you that she is supposed to be all upset..... i.e. extra spoiling, treats, hugs, etc. MaeMae needs some time to grieve in her own doggie way and then she needs to be allowed to move forward. I would treat her like normal -- and I would definately talk with the vet about how to handle the feeding, health care, etc. of a female who has lost her little ones. |

| ![]() I am really sorry to hear this news today. I know I would be just as heart broken to see her suffer the loss. The amount od hurt that her little heart is going through must be awful. Give her hugs.

Right now Sissy is a substitute mommy and even though it had been only 3 weeks from her loss, her milk had dried up. She took over motherly care of her mama's litter. We lost her mama, Reggie, eight days after her litter of 6 was born. She sleeps with them, she cleans them, and she even lets them nurse off of her even though there's nothing there. She is as protective of this litter as if it was her own. And Sissy's daughter, Roxie has also got into the act. They are now sharing the care. It's amazing how nature can work. I wish you luck. I think it's much harder on us that it is on them.
