| I think I have a 7 1/2 mo old yorkie that is pregnant! Ok. First I am not trying to stir up trouble with all the breeders. I have had sm poodles all my life and breed them too. They have been well cared for. So I do go to the best vet in our town. I lost y last 2 poodles this yr. all my dogs lived 17-18 years. After the loss of my last my family wanted to chg breeds. Bella was purchased from a great breeder, and she cost dearly but that does not matter. Bailey my male was rescued from a bad situation, not registered, but that was ok as we had them both scheduled for neutering and spading. I am also an ob/GYN nurse practitioner who has been with every welp my dogs had, I know how to welp and weigh small dogs daily for weight gain ect... Now for my problem, when we found Bella in heat the week prior to her surgery was to b done we started separting the dogs, see is 3 weeks past her cycle and her bottom 4 nipples have become enlarged. She also has been acting different. I can feel small balls in side her and heard a heart beat with my Doppler. I will b taking her to our vet ( he has an ultrasound and I have scanned many dogs for him in the past) is this dangerous for Bella, she weighs 5 pounds male weights 6 pounds. I am not worried re puppies they will have a great home, and I will prob keep them myself. But I am worried about Bella, not sure when or how Bentley got to her.i have never breed this young before. I too waited til my dogs were 2 at least and any risk factor would have them fixed. I am responsible and take the best care of my fur babies. But could someone tell me if they have experienced this and how much danger is it to Bella? Thx for ur time. Bentley has already been fixed so this will b our only litter. |

| I am not a breeder, have never breed, I do know a 6 lb male is to large for a 5 lb female, I was just curious, did you contact your vet to find the danger if any in breeding a 7.5 month old puppy, just asking.

| If it has only been 3 weeks since her heat cycle ended then I doubt seriously you would be hearing a heartbeat. The mood change and the swelling of the nipple is normal for a female after a heat cycle, whether they were bred or not. Since you had no intentions of breeding Bela then it would be best to have her spayed asap since it would be risky for her to have pups at her young age.

| I had a brother and sister many years ago and due to my ignorance they mated. I immediately had her spayed. I think this is what you should consider.

| Bella is pregnant I did hear heartbeats with a professional Doppler at 3 weeks I also took her to my vet and I did her ultrasound and she is pregnant with 5 poss 6 puppies all with heartbeats. I know this was not intended and she was scheduled to be fixed however yes a mistake happen. I would never dream of having the puppies killed with a spade. I did express my concern to my vet and she said she will be ok. I will have her x-rayed toward the end to see if she can have them or a c/s needs to be had. I already have family who would like to have Yorkers and this will b with a contract that they r not breed. Strictly for championship . I also have a friend who is a vet in Memphis Tn. He comes with very high recommendations and has awards for his work. I have been told not to worry. I will make sure Bella gets the best care and that she above all is safe. Thank you for ur input. But for the record if u have a professional Doppler heartbeats can b heard by 3 weeks, beside her symptoms I can feel golf ball size puppies in her and u can definitely see sacs, puppies and heartbeats with an ultrasound. Breeding poodles and caring for pregnant women for 36 yrs has paid off. My yorkies have beautiful coloring so I'm sure the pups will too. After delivery she will b spade.thx again for all ur input. |

| Bella is indeed pregnant! I used a professional Doppler and did here heartbeats .then I took her to my vet and I did an ultrasound on her. She is caring 5-6. Pups with heartbeats. No way would I fix her now and kill those puppies. Vet said she will b fine. She will b fixed after delivery. This is not my first delivery and we ave had c/s too. It's just my first yorkie. I had tiny poodles less than 5 pounds who all lived 171/2-18 years. My main concern was Bella if anyone had one breed this early and any complications they had. She will b well cared for and closely watched. For the record u can hear heartbeats with a Doppler not a stethoscope at 3 weeks and can confirm and see heartbeats with an ultrasound. This is for the ones that want to know early. But know what u r seeing or hearing. Not to sound mean at all but if u r a breeder, u might want to make sure u r answering the question. I was 99.9 % sure she was pregnant, but again my questions were has anyone else had this? Outcome? And problems? Regardless I don't believe in destroying the lives of these pups, even if they were not planned. And I was not doubting my ability to know she was pregnant. Too many yrs of taking care of pregnant women and bitches. Thank you for ur replies and please if anyone has had this problem please don't hesitate to respond. Thxs all! |

| Wow, this is like a 10 year old human having a baby. At this young of an age don't be surprised if her instincts don't kick in and she doesn't know how to care for them. You need to be prepared to care for them around the clock for several weeks just in case.

| Bella pregnant Thx u for ur reply I understand the welling process and I have tKen care of pups before I stay very close and assist if necessary . Being in the medical profession I will have everything needed for welping and my vet on standby. My poodles pups were around 4 oz at birth also my cat had one kitten and then her uterus ruptured I rushed her in where a c/s was done the other 2 kittens were thrown into her kidney 2 kittens survived welost1 As for our cat she had a spade and kidney removed. Even at my vets office I assist as I am trained in surgery too. I have done all care at home shots I v s. Ect... ThAt cat lived 18 yrs. I understand Bella is young this was not planned but has happened. Bella is my main concern and for the record their r histories of young girls under 13 who have gotten preg and delivered heathy babies. Is this ideal? Absolutely not! But does happen all I am after is others who have had this and there stories of outcome. Again she will b closely monitored and the best of care! Thx u for ur input! |

As for using a doppler, I have always read that the fetus needs to be about 4 weeks before the heartbeat can be detected. If your female is already showing then there is a good possibility that she is further along than you think since you never saw her breed. I do hope everything turns out well.

| Clearly I am in the wrong forum I too have breed dogs for 40 yrs who were no bigger than my yorkie I am a trained professional and know about eclampsia as well as uterine rupture, if u read all my post my cat had this, I would never put Bella in danger and I have already seen and talked to my vet. The only thing I have asked more than once is has anyone experienced a yorkie being with pups at this early age and what problems they had! You can hear the heartbeat at 3-4 weeks with a Doppler and or a ultrasound. U may know yorkies and know breeding but not sure u know how to answer the question asked. Evidently God had a plan for her to have pups because she is pregnant and we kept then apart . However evidently they got together at some point or she would have already been spaded. I know her risk was. Just trying to find someone else this happen to. Thx u for ur interest and trying to help. But I am not trying to compete with other breeders, nor do I want to start breeding again, all I want is Bella s safety and healthy puppies. |

| Toodles, please do not send me private messages that you are not willing to send me out in the open. Therefor, I will post your PM for all to see: "Evidently u just know dogs and not ppl. As a nurse practitioner and labor room nurse there r children under 13 having babies. Is this ideal No but it happens so this too happened and I am very aware of risk and things I might have to do however again I am asking others if this has happened to them. Please just answer pls question if u r giving advice. I don't need negativity on this as it has already happened . Thx you" If you are aware of the risks, then why are you asking about them here???? Some VERY highly experienced people have already told you what could happen and what they would do under similar circumstances, so why do you ask them and then put them down for their responses? I don't get it. You have a VERY serious problem on your hands and I hope that you are ready to deal with it, not only with money and time but with also with regards to your very young puppy that isn't yet an adult and ready to deal with this, not only mentally but with regards to the development of her body and organs. While other pointed out the physical risks, I pointed out some very real developmental risks of such a young dam. You DO need to be prepared that she won't know how to take care of them, and be prepared to do around the clock care until they are weaned. That is the only thing that I pointed out. Since you are asking others what might happen, obviously you have not been in this situation before and therefore you need to know things that are outside of the medical side. And while we are at it on the "medical side." You mentioned about her being "spaded." Are you kidding me??? The surgery is called a "spay." After it has been done, they are referred to as "spayed." There is no such thing as "spaded." Any medical expert or someone that is a reputable breeder would know something so basic. For the record, I made on comment regarding something that you needed to be prepared for with an extremely young dam. If you, on anyone, sends me a private PM on such matters that could easily be out in the public forum, I will out you and make them public.

| I appreciate ur response, however the only reason I sent u a response was because my response publically was not showing up I am guessing it has to go thru someone first prior to being published. I appreciate the response from the breeders and i know the risk. I did talk to my vet and a few others who said she will b fine. I know when reading a text u can not hear me personally therefore u can not judge how the msg is coming to u. The only reason I asked on here has been to follow up on anyone who has had the same problem. I specifically wanted to know how things went if they had the same thing happen to their puppy. That had been my goal from begining. For others to tell me 1. I wasn't hearing heartbeats2.she wasn't pregnant and 3. I should have her spay ASAP.was very upsetting to me. It cont. to b a pattern that no one had an answer because it had not happened to breed that young. I stated this was not planned, that I was aware of the risk factors, she has had vet care, but yet no response to this occurring to them.i was hoping to find someone else who had already gone thru this. I feel as if ppl who not know me are attacking my intelligence as well as thinking I should get her spayed and kill the puppies.risk factors r there. I know, I am also aware of the factor I may b helping her feed the pups as well as helping with welling if she requires that.i was not sure of this happening to others. Yes I know this was not by far the best situation to b in, however it is my siruartion now. I understand that a breeder will he protecting again her name and reputation because and that it is wanted to.iam not trying to take away from someone who is a breeder.i all I have been asking from anyone with the same problem and hear there experiences.that is all I apologize if I came across any other way. It is very frustrating for this to b happening n now as we just had a new grandson 6 weeks ago and have another due the week of Christmas. That alone is stressful as well as having to watch Bella. I love my dogs very deeply they become part of my family,so no I am not taking this very seriously. It would b nice to hear of it happening withs others and there outcome. I will b working with my vet.i am sry if it appears that I am taking my frustration s out on u. Again this was not planned and I would never want to put her in danger but my vet says can aa will b fine. Hoping to find others to confirm that all went well.agin the one thing u can not get thru a text is feelings. So therefore it sometimes sounds worst than it was meant. Am I worried about Bella, yes but I believe gGod gave us this for a reason.maybe it was because I've had such a horrible time losing my other dogs and cat this year. We tried very hard to keep the dogs apart and was shocked to notice she was I dead pregnant. We do not know when it hao |
