I'm not sure what you think anybody here should be doing for you. They told you about several resources for good information, but it is up to you to look it up, read, and study, they can't do that for you.

Further, an online mentor just won't cut it. You need someone to be right there, physically, when your girl whelps. Perhaps your vet can recommend someone that is experienced in the whelping of toy breeds, and hopefully that person will have a litter on the way and you can participate and learn firsthand. There are so many things that can go wrong, and you need someone right there that is experienced enough to recognize if there is a problem.

I would rather see an emergency spay in this situation, but if you are bound and determined to put Shy through this you've got a lot of work ahead of you. You need to start studying NOW. You need to find a local mentor NOW. You need to start putting aside emergency and/or c-section funds NOW. You need to completely clear your schedule for her due date NOW. You need to get serious about this, because this isn't all lollipops and rainbows, this could end up a tragedy and Shy and her pups are depending on YOU (not the people on this forum).

I will never forget the female yorkie I saw one night at the Emergency Clinic. Her owner brought her in wrapped up in a blanket. She put her on the counter and took the blanket off and there was a puppy stuck, just hanging out of the mother....dead of course. They took her right back in and when I got called back I could hear the owner in the next room refusing a Csection for her female. I was horrified. When I left, the woman was sitting on the waiting room floor with the mother in a crate (no clue where that came from)... but the poor mother pup looked so distressed. I think of her every time I see a thread like this...I don't think people realize how dangerous it is to breed these tiny pups. It is definitely not all lollipops and rainbows...I know I could never EVER do it.

Omg goodness.. How horrible! That poor dog. So sad. Breeding is so complex, I know I could never do it, or want to do it. I didnt even want to stud Peanut out. I was always getting asked- any where we went- it was so annoying. Its sad people get so wrapped in it. I also didnt want to deal with what comes with that. Peanut is MY BABY, the only ass he should want to be around is mine! I wish people would just leave the breeding to the responsible, reputable breeders.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking....

Do you even know for sure if Shy is pregnant? No right? Bc u haven't even gone. To the vet for an ultrasound yet. I think that's what you should be doing instead of calling us all snobs. Us who worry about nothing but the well being of your girl. We are worry about HER. You not so much.

Take her to the Vet!

I have had not posted before now because I don't like to get involved in online disputes. First of all I want to say that I truly hope your little girl has a safe whelp if she is pregnant. I have been raising yorkies for over 16 years so I know from experience the joy of breeding and I also know the dangers. Please don't take anything for granted. Your girl could have problems so just be prepared. If you know someone that has experience delivering puppies then ask them if they would be willing to help you. If nothing else the vet can even help deliver the pups. As for the caring, concerned people that posted on this thread that you are calling snobs, I take offense to that. They are all just honest concerning people that don't sugar coat what they say. I have been on YT a number of years and have learned so much and I did not always like or agree with what people told me but I listened and learned. Your main concern should be that little girl of yours. Please put aside your differences and try to be a bit more understanding of those that have your little girl's best interest in mind.

When are you going to take her into the Vet for an exam? You don't even know for sure yet.. I'm sure your Vet can send you home with some vitamins, food ideas, Some advice even.

You have had access to wonderful information in the breeders section of this forum ever since you became a member here. You are wrong about what we "snobs" have succeeded in doing....we "snobs" have succeeded in getting you to assume some accountability for Shy's predicament, and have succeeded in getting you to read and research information that has always been there for you to learn from....albeit better late than never. So even if you dont want to admit it to yourself or anyone else, we "snobs" have indeed been successful in getting YOU to become proactive and get busy and read and research and learn. You are very welcome.....

Exactly. He got a lot of great advice. I guess it just wasn't delivered in the way he could take it without getting his panties in a wad.

Every one has accidents and makes mistakes but how you handle them that is what makes you who you are. This accident can be fixed and Shy can have an emergency spay and avoid a lot of things that could happen. If she is a fearful dog what happens if the Labor scares her and her blood pressure shoots up? What happens if out of fear she kills her pups? Set aside what you want and think about her and what she would want and no she doesn't want puppies and she doesn't want the pain of labor and pregnancy she just wants you to love her and take care of her.

It looks like you have gotten some good advice about your options, the risk involved, etc.

If you have chosen to let your girl have puppies just get prepared.
Have $thousands available for vet care if needed.
Be ready to take time off.
Ask your vet many questions.
Finding a mentor would be good, but ultimately the first priority is a good vet. I know if my furgirl was having puppies I personally would want my vet to be near because they can examine mom, give drugs, do emergency surgery, etc. So if you try and can't find a mentor just talk to your vet about it.

Not sure why there is a big push for ultrasound. Unless your vet believes it is necessary you may not need to. A lot of people choose to wait and xray. If you are not sure that she is pregnant (could be pretty hard to tell the difference between that and fakse pregnancy) then treat heras if she is.

The diet needs to be changed.
Talk to her vet,

Taylor, this is truly an excellent sentence/belief. It's how we handle our mistakes that makes us potentially better people. But I also want to piggy back on this sentence and say that it's *just* as important to pay attention to how we handle those who we think have made mistakes. In my opinion, I think it says just as much about a person when witnessing how they handle others who they deem are 'doing wrong'.

We can either help them, or alienate them. On this particular thread, there is definitely both. And the OP is right there in the mucky area too.

Btw, OP, please read YT rules - we don't allow name calling.

Talk to her vet,
Ultrasounds can identify a pregnancy at 3 weeks....it is still early enough to terminate the pregnancy with spaying, without additional dangers of hemorrhage from blood engorged reproductive organs. A lot of vets will not do a spay following a c-section, because of the issues with increasing hemorrhage, unless it is an emergent situation. Likewise, they will not terminate a pregnancy that is too far along for the same reason. If you wait until day 56-58 when you normally have your xray done, you have committed to the whelp.
