Breeders do many things that are not discussed with people outside of breeding, simply because if you do not breed, you have no way of knowing all the specifics and the mechanisms of how this all works. That is unrealistic and actually a safety hazard. You not only are at risk for horrific fights, you risk unwanted pregnancies, pregnancies by "God only knows who" out of the group of males you have....it is just not practical. You have dogs darting out doors when they open, you have incessant barking, and you can not clean house with such goings on! Most people think only puppy mills have dogs contained in "out buildings"....but I can guarantee you, the money spent on some of these kennels, rival guest houses! Your reputable breeders do not have dogs enclosed in tiny, wire rabbit style hutches, with wire floors, and their dogs are not kept in the large crates the breeders use, for hours a day...usually they go to crates when you need to do housework, or if there are workmen inside the house, or at night. There are hours set aside for play, quiet interaction/socialization with family, activity areas for running off steam, etc. Dogs are gathered and crated during storms, so if necessary, you can grab them up and get out. You also keep your males separated from the females unless you are watching closely....you do not have those "ooops" encounters that result in breedings between dogs you had not planned on breeding. AuntieLauries out building kennel was actually fantastic! I can tell you it was NOT cheap, and it was well designed.... I wish I had the money to have one of those kennels built that are completely washable with water jets positioned all over the building, where all surfaces are misted with any solution you want to use....they are fantastic little buildings, with great living quarters for your dogs, grooming area, area for any medical care, giving injections, dressing changes, giving meds, storage areas, of course running water, a/c and heater, with adjoining attached runs with flooring, and of course, video and audio monitoring of the entire building and crate and run areas, etc....but they are $40,000.00- $80,000.00.....CLEARLY nothing puppy mills would ever think of investing in! People that do not breed just have no way to know the logistics of safely and hygienically being able to maintain a breeding business. So you should keep a clear, open mind about breeders and how they operate. You would be surprised how much "conventional wisdom" people have encased what they consider "a reputable breeder" and "acceptable breeding practices" in, is actually not quite the whole picture.

Just because someone has a kennel doesnt mean they are unreputable breeder but some that do have them have way more dogs than could get individual attention and socialization. I would be very cautious of buying from a breeder with a kennel but if I havent personally seen it than I dont know

IMHO: The kennel issue should not have even been brought up in this thread, as it had nothing to do with a grieving breeder asking other BREEDERS for help in dealing with losing puppies.

I also feel that when Admin deletes a post, it is not appropriate to further discuss that post just because you saw it before it was deleted. If that is not in the YT rules, it should be! It only serves to further stir up negative stuff, and point fingers.

It keeps being brought up here thatt only breeders should post here and I think that is really unfair. No where in the rules does it say only breeders can respond to breeder threads. Also there are other sections like training that other people respond to that arent trainers.

To those that seem to think people with a kennel are breeding tons of dogs, you could be right. That's why you visit the breeder and see her set up. I don't even have my dogs sleep in my kennel..it's for there safety when we are out for a few hours. It is indoor and out door with a very nice covering to keep them dry.Go look at my yorkies and kennel it's on facebook YORKIES IN THE MEADOWS. I have lots of pictures...not lots of dogs. We have had 5 breedings in the last 4 years. I know there are a ton of bad breeders out there. I have met a few...you know that's one reason I wanted to breed, to be a respectable breeder with healthy nice puppies.I don't make money, how could anyone who breeds and does it right? It is very costly.I use to own a daycare and took classes in early childhood education and extra classes every year for twenty years. The money I made I put back into my daycare. It was wonderful, better than most daycare centers by far. That's what I'm doing with my breeding business. Trying to make it the best I can.
You can't judge anyone if you don't have the facts. I'm not even close to being anything but a small time breeder who dearly loves yorkies. I just happen to want the best for them so we had a kennel built. Anymore questions??? BTW I have seen many breeders who stack cadge upon cadge of yorkies and the ones that won't even let you in there house, the ones that have to meet you somewhere for whatever reason. So tell me what kind of breeder would you buy a yorkie from??

that is why it is often best to not jump in to soon with an opinion, or judgement, especially when it is an area that one has little or no experience in. This is the breeders section so myself and many others that don't breed tend to read more and hardly post in here at all. New members come in here hoping to get answers not be judged. Just like in the sick and injured section I don't post much more than support there because I don't have much experience in that area.

I am fearful there may be a push to develop "rules" that forbid anyone but a breeder from answering anything about breeding, trainers only addressing any training issues, nutrition and dog food questions being responded to only by nutitionists....and it can go on and on....we can all learn from all posts....I can understand the desire to somehow let people asking questions that concern issues best responded to by breeders, be advised by breeders.....I just would hate to see the forum get all segregated and divided into specific areas where only people that fit into that particular category, are allowed to respond.

My breeder was like that. She didnt have a kennel but she had cages and cages of dogs too many dogs. Luckily neither one of mine has had any health problems or anything but I certainly wouldnt buy from a breeder like that again. Sometimes on here when one heres kennel they assume it is like a puppymill kennel because thats what we hear about alot on here but I know there are reputable breeders that have kennels and runs too so I think you have to know what kind of kennel it is and how many dogs before you assume to know

I also agree that everybody should be permitted to post in every section on this forum. No segregation is needed. We are all here because we love Yorkies, and want to learn and share about them.

However, it would be nice if people would not speak as if they are an expert when they offer an opinion not based on facts and experience.

I didnt see her say she was an expert. She gave an opinion this is a forum full of opinions. People give opinions all the time in the sick and injured and they arent vets or vet techs just pet owners. Same in the training section regular people posting opinions not trainers

Thank you I am always willing to learn. After thinking about how much stuff Callie has I could not imagine all the stuff breeders have to have.
