Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Hi there I have a 1 and 1/2 year old male Yorkie who weighs 3 lbs( he is the daddy) and a 2 year old Silky Terrier who weighed 8 pounds before pregnancy and who is 59 days pregnant. She has done very well through the entire pregnancy. We have had 2 ultrasounds done and so far we think there are 3 little fur babies coming. She will go for her x-ray tomorrow at 11:15. My question due to some unforeseen circumstances I will be working a lot these next 2 weeks and only have today and tomorrow off. When I called the vet to confirm her appointment in the morning we were talking and she suggested we induce her so that way I can be there. The down fall is she said that it carries a higher chance that she may need a c- section. I am a dog groomer so if worse comes to worse i could take her with me to work then leave early if I she goes into labor. I just really don't feel like induction seems wise. I was wondering if anyone has ever run into a problem like this and what was your decision. Also her temp dipped to 98.42 today and has had a light clear slimy discharge for the last 2 days but besides that she isn't showing any other signs of labor coming on. No nesting, panting, shaking ect..... |

| ![]() I'm not a breeder, but induction sounds awfully risky and unnecessary to me ![]() ![]() Good luck with the whelp and the babies, hope all are healthy and happy ![]()

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Thank you I feel like it is risky and unnecessary almost like they are just trying to make an extra buck. I have decided not to do ![]() |

| ![]() induction does sound ridiculously unnecessary- and it was your vet who suggested it with no medical; need? ![]() i take it whoever will be watching them while you work has less whelping experience than yourself? id say taking her with you until she whelps, or leaving her at the vets (or mentors? was this an accidental litter of deliberate?) just in case would probably be the safest bets! one of my girls never showed signs, and her waters broke less than 1/2 a second before the 1st pup- and we never were able to notice her plug either because she cleaned soo much! so the only way to know when shes gonna go is following 24/7... its ok, you can catch up on all the sleep in only 3 short months! ![]()

Unless she is overdue i would leave her alone, the babies may need the extra time to become stronger..

Also, think that a female in labor needs her peace and quiet, otherwise she may delay labor, hold in the puppies and need a C-section anyway, you say you can take her with you, but are you planning on having her on a safe, quiet place without any disturbances? When i have a whelping mom i do not even allow visitors... not worthy ... i keep it quiet as my girls like it. Good luck in your delivery ! Hoping all goes very smooth ! XOXO

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() I am a silky terrier breeder and my suggestion to you is PLEASE DON'T induce, my mentor lost a bitch by been induced. I rather schedule a C-section, that induce a bitch... Best of luck with your silkshire litter. hugs, |

| ![]() I would not induce either but also I would not have bread a Yorkie to a Silkie.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() it sounds like she will go anytime now, she is loosing her mucus plug, also by experience, have everything ready, she must likely to go in the middle of the night, so please be vigilant. I think my main silky girl is pregnant again and I am already getting ready. again best of luck.. hugs, |

| ![]() If you look at tegamom1s avatar... Has (absolutely stunning!) show dogs, so therefor wouldn't cross the two breeds. That did clear a lot up ![]() Carman- whelpwise they are both similar aren't they? Sounds like you have everything covered! 3 is a nice number of pups- I've had mostly big litters (6&7) and my kuki then had 3 (one being my avatar) and oh it was a breeze in comparison- and your girl is a fair size on top! There will be some size difference in the pups I imagine; none of your homes are looking a specific size are they!?
