| How big is too big...pregnant yorkie Hi everyone.... New dilema...(still same dog)... Well, I decided to just lay low as far as the pregnant girl was concerned. I sure didnt want to help out the breeder by making her life easier....BUT....she called me last night and asked me if I could please come over...She was worried. The pregnant girl is on day 42. She is really large....she has grown ALOT in the past week. She looks miserable, cant get comfortable. I questioned if she was positive on the breeding date and she said she was! So this poor girl still has 3 weeks to go...Im really worried about her. I told her owner there was a really big chance she would need a c-section, and horror covered her face. I reminded her of how Ive been preaching to her about this not just being fun and games. She finally had a light bulb come on upstairs. She said after her last litter (apparently it didnt go so hot) and now this one, she may quit...WOO HOO!!! Anyways, back to the pg girl. Is it normal for them to get very large with still weeks to go? I did take her nearly 2 weeks ago for a sono and the vet thought there were def 3 pups...So Im wondering if theres more....or if they are just really big... Im really worried about this poor dog. I could tell by the look on the owners face that she couldnt afford a c-section, so for the sake of the little girl, I will step in. I took a pic of her, but really she looks so much bigger in "real life"...just would like your opinions plz. She also stated that maybe she should cut her food down and I told her HECK NO!! Augghh...I am re-thinking my bringing her to my home......

| I'm not a good guesser at these things, but she looks to be carrying more than 3. Also, I've never had my girls have such pronounced nipples with a first pregnancy. I mean, they do get bigger with pregnancy but those look like they've been suckled before. For her to even think of reducing her food makes me wonder just how capable this lady is...maybe she's just been lucky up to now. Have you shared any info from the Debbie Jensen site with her? Here's the link again. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders.

Yorkie Talker | I'm fairly new to this site but when I saw the picture of the pg girl it reminded me of my Abby's Mommie. Maggie was about 6 1/2 to pound dog at 1 year and 1/2 old. They bred her with a tiny male yorkie and we were all astounded that she delivered 6 very healthy puppies with my daughter in law's help. Crys had to clean and feed the last to two born because Maggie was sick from cleaning the first 4. We are almost sure that our Abby was one of the bottle fed because she cares nothing for other dogs but loves every person she meets. She is especially crazy about Crys. |

| She does look further along than you are saying. I hope the owner is right about when she was bred. Do you know what day of her heat cycle she was bred on and the date? It is possible if she was bred later in her heat cycle then she could easily go on day 59. She will have to be watched really close. The main thing that I would worry about would be her rupturing her uterus since she is not a big bitch and she is getting so big. My first yorkie, Dixie, just weight 5 lbs and she would get a huge belly too. Dixie never had any problems whelping. You will definitely have to watch this momma closely after she has her babies because the smaller girls are more at risk for getting eclampsia. I pray she has a safe whelping.

| She looks fine to me...just when you think they will split open, they tend to level off and the belly seems to hang down lower....that is a grapefruit belly...the basketball bellys are a nightmare... She looks every even...looks more then 3, but time will tell..her size is in her favor to whelp without a problem...but we all know how that goes... | My Poor Roxy got HUGE the last few days of her pregnancy.. I literally just looked at her and kept apologizing. She looked like she swallowed a basketball. She had a litter of 7 puppies. She's since gotten her figure back! |
