YT 1000 Club Member | I for one am glad that we have some dedicated breeders who are there for the breed. If we didn't I am afraid of what the Yorkie breed would end up like.

| I know how you feel Lori! I try to think of the pup and post advice with her in mind but sometimes it's hard and sometimes I just shake my head and leave. I've been researching for 3 years and the more I know, the more I realize I still have so much to learn and I think I will continue learning new things as long as I'm doing this but some of these people who come on here talking about their girls who are already pregnant some, already in labor, and they are asking the most basic questions... Like NOW it occurs to you to ask questions, where were you at least 3 months ago? It really scares me for their girls. And then when they start wanting to cut corners on the vet.... |

I try to leave it alone because I see from others posting that no matter what is said the person posting the question just doesn't want to hear the answers unless it fits in their frame of thinking. I had done research from 2000 and didn't have my first litter til 2007 . I still learn lots everyday and I continue to do research, because things are always popping up. Plus I get a little nervous with each litter because you never know when something could happen. So I go back through all my books, notes and saved pages and reread everything to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. I think the cutting corners at the vet is just pure stupidity. Sure I have called around for pricing on different procedures but I have not and will never not cut corners because it costs too much. Those people make me sick.

Senior Yorkie Talker | When I came here over a year ago, it was because I was considering getting a Yorkie. I wanted to learn as much as I possibly could before I made up my mind. The YT welcome page reads like this: We welcome you to our Yorkshire Terrier community! Please feel free to browse around and read our message board! We welcome all Yorkshire Terrier and dog lovers! Please register so you can post onour forums, view pictures, and search our site. You can also share pictures of your Yorkie after you register! We are a friendly bunch and we'd love to have you as a member! We also have a text-friendly archive you can browse. Hence the parts I have highlighted in red. Now....nowhere in that does it state that it is only a site for BREEDERS. I believe we ALL have a lot that we can learn from each other. But keep in mind that inevitably there are going to be people on here who are NOT BREEDERS....just like anything else in this world...there are ppl who are saturated with knowledge about a particular subject and others who are well..."not so much". That doesn't make them pathetic or stupid or someone you should "shake your well educated head at." Not everyone on this website is a breeder nor is everyone looking for a show dog. I have seen ppl post on here who have for instance used the "Oh so Taboo term...Teacup" and literally be attacked for it. Like it or not it is a term that is out there. The person that posted with that term probably doesn't know that it will "be upsetting to you." It seems perfectly acceptable to use the term Teapot on here though. I don't ever intend to offend anyone...but just maybe some consider themselves so knowledgeable on these subjects that they look down their noses at people who aren't. Maybe if they see a post that has "ignorance" about the breed written all over it...then they should offer their advice in a bit of a kinder way..and then it wouldn't be quite so offensive. How 'bout that?? Maybe just let them know in a reasonable manner that breeding dogs to try and get a tiny one is compromising their health and is very dangerous. Not too many months back I posted about a pup that my daughter had gotten around Christmas time...posted how cute he was and his size. First thing out of a "Breeders" mouth was "Can you believe anyone would be so irresponsible as to purchase a puppy so small....etc...etc.." Yes...I was EXTREMELY offended by it. For one thing the breeder she got him from was VERY responsible and the pup was eating wonderfully...entirely healthy and the vet gave him a thumbs up to go home with her. I'm sorry but if what you are calling 'advice' is coming across like most i have seen on here...then no wonder its getting backlash. I've gotten a little fed up with it myself. I welcome any well communicated advice from ANYONE on here, breeder or not. That was my whole point in joining in the first place. And I HAVE learned a wealth of useful knowledge here. But there are some who tend to want to get on a soapbox. Now before you all start hurling daggers at me...keep in mind, i did not say EVERYONE on here does this...but some do. I love YT and those who DO are not going to keep me from learning from those who DON'T~Lol` Okay, now...have at it~

| Yes, the number of people who post up having bred their dogs with little to know knowledge of the breeding process as a whole seems to be at an all time high. It's ridiculous, and makes me sick at my stomach. The way I see it is, if you come here and flaunt your inexperience and general lack of concern for the best interest of your dog and the breed in general, then be prepared for a wide variety of answers, many of which will not be praise. |

| How do you figure that anyone is "talking behind your back?" I believe that you have access to this thread as well and what is being said and the frustrations being expressed here were the same ones mentioned on the other thread where you were actively posting. So how do you figure this thread is going on 'behind your back?" Last edited by BamaFan121s; 06-19-2010 at 03:09 PM. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I completely agree MaggiesMom. That is what the search engine is for and i DO think alot of newcomers don't realize that they should try that avenue first before posting about an issue they are dealing with. My particular experience with someone attacking my post was different in that I was simply a proud new Puppy-G'ma....boasting about her daughter's new Yorkie and a breeder jumped in and started babbling on about how appalled she was at us and the breeder we used for being so irresponsible...which wasn't the case at all. I wasn't seeking any advice or asking anyone anything at all. It was really uneccessary and uncalled for. There certainly are irresponsible dog owners and breeders out there. And I completely understand why someone would call them out something they posted that might really pose a danger or show complete unconcern for the breed. But my point is that some ppl just hop on here looking for something to attack someone for. That might explain why so many are on the defensive lately. Thanx~
