Yes, breeding mixed breeds is totally wrong! Look how many of them are in the pounds today and sadly put to sleep, since no one wants them. We have a pound in my area, close by, and they get mixed breeds turned in every day. Luckily they are a no kill pound. There are more mixed breeds turned in than purebreds. Just a fact. Also with mixed breeds pups - they are more likely to get more problems that are related to each of the breeds they were mixed with. So now instead of the problems that the yorkie breed is with, you now have the genetic problems that dach. have too. Not a good idea. No, it is not okay to just let them go. That is an olds wives tale. They can actually get hurt. Yorkies normally do not have pups on their own. Sounds like you do not know how to deliver a litter either. So much can go wrong. Do you have an extra 700 - 1,000 dollars for a c-section?? A spay now is a lot cheaper and can save her life, like the other explained. I would not risk her life. What if something happened to her because of this breeding, could you live with this knowing that you were the one responsible? I do not think you want to. You seem to love her (from you past posts) and want to do what is right. Have her spayed. It is the right thing to do now. Last edited by topknot; 06-15-2010 at 03:09 AM. | |

| I love dogs, mixed or purebred..but as posted, shelters and pounds are full of purebreds..so the mixed has less and less chance to be adopted. Why not have your Yorkie spayed and prevent a litter at this late stage of her life..wishing you the best of luck. |

| Then have her spayed now. Eliminate the 'what ifs' and risks. No, it is not good to just 'let them do their thing.' Whoever has been telling you that is an idiot and I sincerely hope they are not breeding too! It presents loads of complications. As far as mixes are concerned, there are varying, very strong opinions on that. Ask yourself this: What exactly are you trying to accomplish/produce by breeding mixed dogs? Why exactly are you wanting to breed her to begin with? And most importantly, why on Earth would you ever breed her without having done extensive research first? |

P.S. Most reputable breeders do help out with rescue/shelter animals.

| There was a 4 mo old, purebred Yorkie in a DC shelter recently..the article was in the Washington Post? I wish shelters worked closer with rescues..I think they feel it is easy to place a Yorkie..but even one day in a shelter is one day too long IMO... |

Maybe the shelter tried but all the rescue's were full...then again I have seen shelters need the $$$ so they will hold onto these little ones...sad..
