Here's a good example of a vet not preparing a newbie for the whelping process. Although, x-rays were performed, the vet told this girl all she needed was dentifloss and scissors. Never giving her any other information.

This why studying is always necessary and most of all a great mentor that is well versed in the breed you have chosen.

And please, sashazx, please read this thread and note that the people that you have been the most rude to are the very same people that jump in to help, even if it means losing sleep to help someone deliver their pups. How can anyone have anything but the utmost of respect for these individuals?

the pups are here 2 boys and a girl took her to the vet since he was at the office for an emergency to have everyone checked..even though i had an x-ray done and showed me 3 pups she had another 1 in her it came a little more then 2hrs later but sadly it had passed away another boy..but mom and pups r doing fine..

I've stopped coming to the forum because of posts like this. It boils down to this. If people aren't doing enough homework prior to breeding that someone has to go online to actually ask questions like is my yorkie pregnate. It's a breeding that is bad. 90%+ of them should not happen. It's horrible what people subject their dearest baby they love more than anything to.

People don't have any clue what goes on. It's as if unskilled uneducated person decides to breed. So they will ask questions. Then when they don't hear what they want, the forum isn't information coming from humans with real life experiences. Suddenly we're all elitests out to attack because you want only what you want and no reality as we know it. That isn't breeding. Breeding isn't all about puppy breath. It's often leads to death. Dead moms, dead puppies, dogs with genetic defects being bred, homeless dogs, poorly bred dogs continuing this the cycle.

Folks want to come on here and willy nilly around like the topic is to use a bow is a topknot at home. Why don't have expect a big push back?

I for one, I'm tired of the misapplied breeding. This isn't geared at any one person. It's good that the forum is here, but it should be a learning tool.

Twenty years studying the breed-This is starting someowhere. It's only a start.

hi everyone sad day today i lost the girl pup don't you dare bash me i was doing everything i was told..can't seem to stop crying she was the 1 i was keeping taking them to the vet for tail docking today and dewclaws removed maybe they can see if there getting enough milk they seem to be..please no bashing plz i feel bad as it is and can't take any bashing today just friends ty

No one is going to bash you for this. That is extremely sad and it is not something anyone here would wish on anyone else, it is what we wanted to prevent. Hugs to you and I hope your last puppy and mom are doing well.

Sad you lost her, maybe the vet can tell you why. Hope the other two continue to thrive. I'm sure you are tracking their weights, it is an important "clue" to see if they are gaining weight day by day

I am sorry that you have lost a puppy. I will not bash you, but just say that I hope you have learned that you have a lot to learn and that breeding is something that should not be taken lightly.

I hope that you will take at least a year to learn all you can about breeding, before you attempt it again.

The best advice that I was given when I first asked about breeding, was to buy a couple of good books and read them cover to cover, several times. Study them like your puppies' lives depended on it.

In addition read this Breeders forum, read all of the posts about things going wrong and the advice that is given. Advice from the experienced breeders, not advice that a newbie is giving out.

Get to know the breeders so you know who has the expertise and who does not. If you have read or heard conflicting advice, ask them why they believe what they do. Take notes and learn,

Good advice, but I will expand on it.

A year is no where enough time to study. Finding a mentor is # one. One that is well versed in whatever breed that has been chosen. Learning the standard inside and out and breeding to the standard. Attending canine genetic classes, breeding/whelping classes. Learning the importance of testing. Educating one's self on raising a healthy litter. Studying contracts and the responsibilities of placing a pup in a approved, loving home. Also, the legal, moral and ethical responsibilities of a breeder. And understanding that said responsibilities don't end when the pup leaves your home.
