Exclamation Need help with supplements and recipes asap!!

I need to start supplementing Harmony and pups right away and need your help!!
I weighed the girls today and they haven't gained, in fact the smaller girl lost a little. They seem to be nursing well but I don't think they are getting anything.
I checked Harmony over and she isn't producing much milk right now. I could barely get anything out.

So I need to start supplementing puppies right away. I could buy the store bought milk supplements but I know there is a recipe out there that they do much better on. It has goat's milk in it I believe.

I also need a supplement or something to help Harmony start producing more milk. I'm picking up some cottage cheese and yogurt today for her.

If anyone could find the recipes for the supplements I would really appreciate it!! I had it saved on my computer I thought but I can't find it.

I just finished bottle feeding a litter. I used canned goats milk to equal parts water. It worked out really good for us. Now they are 6 weeks old. Make sure you give mom some calicum.

I just came from the vets office where I picked up 3lbs of Doe's Milk. This is powdered goats milk, but it comes from the more expensive goats. My 3 1/2 week old puppies are doing very good on it. I seringe feed it but picked up some playtex ventair bottles to try tonight. The only thing that concerns me about giving the mom dairy products is the health problems this causes with the yorkie breed, or is my vet nuts on this? She is totally against dairy products with the yorkie breed. I wouldn't want to do
anything that could cause problems for my guys. Good Luck with your babies and mom.

My vet is a canine reproduction and nutrition specialists. The above recipes were approved by him. Breeder/exhibitors that have been breeding yorkies for years wouldn't do anything to their pups either and they are pretty well versed in the yorkie breed.

Store bought supplements Esbilac.....has trace minerals that are being linked to liver problems and shunt. Just Born causing premature cataracs.........

My vet actually wanted me to use the replacement milk products that they sell. I told him okay, but went home and used the goats milk recipe that Mardelin had provided. The babies did great and not one time did they get diarehha. Then when I took them to the vet for their first check up, he explained to me how lucky I was not to have any constipation or diarehha. I explained to him, that even though he didn't like it, I used the goats milk. He just looked at me like, I can't believe it didn't hurt them. He told me all of them are very healthy and their soft spots had closed completely etc. They also told me they couldn't believe how happy they all were. They are now on soft puppy food and we are in the process of incorporating the harder dog food. They are still teething.

Last year I was hand raising a litter (mom got sick when they were a week old and had to be put on mega doses of antibiotics). I had the pups on a regular mother's replacement milk for about 4 days (they weren't gaining). When I took them in for a vet check (they checked out fine). I took my novel in (one that I begin writing in for every litter, beginning with the first breeding and keep up up until the last puppy is placed). Well, my vet was reading it, checking to see if to see if something I did or didn't do contributed to my girl going down. He came across the section where I started feeding the pups......he screamed at me.....asked; Mary what is the closest thing to mother's milk. I gave him a blank stare.....he informed me that the pups should be on Goats Milk. I knew that my mentor had been using it for 45 years, but me thinking that things had evolved.

The bit of Karo added helps with constipation and blood sugar levels. Providing Benebac helps with the disgestive tract, inhibiting diarreah. There are other things that can help, if one should encounter constipation and/or diarreah.....Anyway, once I changed over to Goat's Milk, pups began gaining by leaps and bounds.

I have read somewhere that goats milk has a lower sugar content than a canine's. I add a little karo also and it really seems to help!

I will say I went against my vet's instructions and added the Karo. His belief was by adding sugar you are asking for trouble....possibly diabetic issues. We sat down and spoke about the reality of hyperglycemia. Since his specialty is not specifically with yorkies, he did a bit of research on hyperglycemia in yorkies and relented.

All I know is that it worked. They are all happy healthy puppies. The vet told me he hates the formulas offered but didn't approve of the goats milk. He just likes to see them get past that time and get on regular dog food, as did I because I was ready for some sleep.

There is a link that I provided, addressing Goats Milk. The article was published by a Vet. I don't go willy nilly doing everything my vet tells me to do. I really research.......go back and discuss things with the vet and come to a meeting of the minds.

Thanks for the help!!

I have great news!! Little Angel is finally gaining weight pretty good, she is up to 4 3/8 ounces!!
It's been very tiring but it seems that supplementing her with the goat's milk formula is paying off!!
I'm just so thrilled that she is now gaining weight and seems to be growing and getting stronger each day!!

May I ask please, how long this would stay in the fridge until you need to make another batch. 5 days? 4 days?

Thanks.

My rescue had taken in a few puppy mill dogs 2 weeks ago and one of the girls had puppies last Saturday. She had 4 and one since has passed away. She was born with a cleft palet...poor dear. Would just like to make sure the mom has all she needs as I just got her and the babes last night. I'm feeding mom puppy food and plain yogurt but she also came with a can of store bought, which I'm not a fan of and see your not either.

Any tips would be accepted gratefully~
