Well, I thought that things were starting to progress with Livi, but not sure now. Her temp yesterday stayed right around 99.5 and then this morning it had dropped to 98.4. I just took it and it is back up to 99.6. She has not been herself today so I was thinking with her lower temp (this morning) that maybe things were changing, but I guess not quite yet.

Thank you Mary!! :) It won't be too much longer now. :eek: The puppies have dropped and now when I feel them moving, it is down low and no longer on the sides of her tummy.

It really depends on the female. What I do, I introduce the male and female on her 9th day. If she is interested and I get a tie then I will usually wait two days and breed them again. So I am breeding on the 9th and 12th day. Sometimes I will do a 3rd breeding on the 14th day. Females are in heat for 3 weeks and often a female will accept a male all the way to the 21st day or longer. I have had some females accept a male very early in her heat cycle and others that would want nothing to do with the male until the 14th day. They are all different. Some breeders do progesterone testing so they don't have to guess.

Oh my goodness Tammy, here we go..........puppy watch time. Yes it may be another day or so, but it sounds like it's getting closer. Remembering something of a temp drop, then up again, and withing 24 hours.........she's surely on her way. Good luck for a safe whelp for Livi and her pups; I'll be watching closely.:)

Thank you Rose!! Poor Livi has been so different today...you can tell, just by looking at her, that it is getting close. Her eyes just look tired. :( The puppies have been moving a ton this afternoon and I am fairly certain that I feel 3...*could* be more, but the three I feel pretty sure of. We shall see...won't be too much longer.

All right, I'll give this a try when one of females comes in heat, in March. You do those three days, and then just once a day? Guess I'll have to cage my little male -- he's never been caged, so he won't like it at all. If we don't have so many 2 ounce puppies, it will be worth it! :)

I am not saying that the number of times you breed has anything to do with the number of pups and the size of pups. I have been told that when a female releases her eggs that they are all released at the same time and therefore all fertilized at the same time. Some people will argue with this. Personally I feel that placement in the womb and the size of the litter have a lot to do with it.

Your male will be very unhappy. I never crate mine but I either put them in a x-pen or in another room. They just have to get over it.

Tammy, I do hope she does well. Is this the momma that had one surviving pup her last litter? It seems like it has been a long time so I don't remember. What day is it now? Has she been eating pretty good?

Yes, same momma...I actually only own one breeding female. We have Isabeau, but she is spayed. Livi is on day 61 and has been eating nonstop. She didn't eat well and it took a lot to get her to agree to eat, but this was just in the beginning. Since figuring out a food that she likes, we have had no problems at all!

I am glad she is eating well. What food is she eating? I am lucky that none of my mommas have been picky eaters. If all goes well will you keep a baby from this litter?

My guys are on ACANA with Orijen mixed in. Early on, she stopped eating the ACANA so we had to find different canned foods that she would eat. Now, she loves the Orijen and we are still offering canned.

I hope to keep one...hubby has said that I can, but we will see. ;)

Mine eat Chicken Soup Dry puppy food with a little canned Pedigree Healthy Digestion. I hope you get your dream puppy.:)

Thanks Barbara! :) We had tried different canned foods and she would eat one for awhile and then stop. Now the ONLY one that she will eat is the Pedigree (chunks)....along with the Orijen kibble.

Ok, guys...I just took Livi's temp and she is at 100.4. This is actually the highest that it has been since I started taking it this week. Have you found this website to be accurate with your litters?

I have one little hussy that will be flirting and flagging from day one til day 28.

I am never sure when which day mine go into heat. I start counting from when all the other dogs start paying a lot of attention to one, sniffing, humping etc.

I rarely see any blood.

I never crate. The whining is bad enough just having them in separate rooms.

ooooo it's getting exciting. Hope they go till day 63. I never do temps. it drives me crazy and I can imagine how uncomfortable it is for them.

Tammy you might want to reconsider keeping one unless you plan to get a second male. Maybe you can trade for another one. Or know someone that you can use their stud.

Last night she weighed 4# 12.2 oz tonight she weighs 5# 1.2 oz of course she just finished eating. But I am thinking there has to be more than one puppy.

It is getting pretty exciting (more nerve-wracking around here, though) ;) You know how that is. Livi doesn't seem to mind me taking her temp...she will even sleep through me doing it.

If we keep one, it will be spayed/neutered. I am fairly certain that we have decided to only have one unaltered female. I had planned on having two, but we had to spay Izzy and I thought about getting one more female, but I don't think that we want to afterall. So, if we keep a puppy it will be altered as soon as he/she is old enough.

WOW! She has gained a lot in a short time. I also thought that Livi was having one but she gained like Ollie is doing and now I feel atleast three. So, maybe Ollie will surprise you. :)

So far I have found it to be accurate. The temperature usually goes up within 12 hours or so of them going into labor.

It sounds like Destiny and Levi are pretty close!!
Destiny's temperature was 99.7 yesterday. This morning it was 99.2 and now it is 100.

Oh and I am thinking Destiny has 4 pups now, I think I heard another heartbeat. So we will see.

Good luck with Levi and the upcoming whelp!!

Wow, it sure sounds like she is pregnant!! When is she due again? Next week? They seem to gain a lot of weight the last two weeks.

I usually can't hear the heart beats or feel movement until about 5 days or so of them having them.

How exciting!! I will be praying all goes well with Ollie!!

Oh, I did want one more, but have since decided that I am too close to when I planned to stop breeding to get another female. I feel lucky to have found Izzy even if we did not get baby Izzys. :)

How neat that Destiny and Livi are so close! They both are due on Saturday and sounds like they are both making just about the same progress. Are you still thinking that "delivery day" will be Saturday?? I think that Livi will still hold out and have hers on Sat.....but who knows.

She is due next Thursday.

About the heartbeat:

I can here a heartbeat on each side, just not sure if it is moms heart beat or puppy heartbeats. Can you hear the moms down below her ribs?

Jeanie, when I hear their heartbeats, it is in Livi's tummy and their heartbeats sound a lot faster than Livi's.
