help w/ surrogate just introduced to 3 day old pups Need help asap on advice of surrogate mom put with 3 day old puppies Here is the information I have. An acqaintance of mine has just had a horrible ordeal. Brief background. She has 3 adult female yorkies. 2 went into heat the same time. One gave birth to 1 puppy yesterday. This morning the puppy was dead. Tonight she calls me hysterical and said her other adult female (she gave birth to 4 puppies approx 3 days ago was dead). She had called me earlier saying she was acting a bit lethargic. She gave her nutrical and syring fed her some ad/puppy formula (the adult female.) Well she has passed for current reasons unknown. The four puppies were crying so she took the other mom (put a muzzle on her) and put her in with the babies. She put the muzzle on her due to extreme fear that the mom would kill the babies that were not hers. Please, please advise. I am not sure what in the world to tell her and we are all so sick over the first baby dying from the 1st mom and now the adult mom passing with 4 three day old babies. THANK YOU!! How long should the surrogate stay with them? How often should they be fed? Is it safe for her to stay in or should she be taken out?

I would think she would take over mothering them? I know my parents have a poodle that is fixed but when Abbey has puppies she always helps clean them up when they get older. They are so funny to watch! Sisters caring for the babies! But I would wait to hear from someone with more exp. I know you can always bottle feed the puppies. I hope it all works out and the puppies are ok

| I only know of a couple of people using surrogate mothers. All with great success.....Yorkies for the most part are great mothers.....very rarely have I heard of them not adapting to motherhood and killing pups. One friend lost her dam. She contacted a surrogate program and her pups were placed with a French Bull Dog.......who raised the pups until they were 8 weeks of age. Another lost her yorkie dam and used another dam that had lost her litter two days prior.....all worked out well.

I had two girls give birth within a 24 hour period. Mom #2 did not really care to look after her babies, so I gave them to Mom #1. She was just as pleased as punch "goody, two more babies" and she was an excellent mom to them. There was a large size difference so I had to watch that they got enough to eat but that was putting two litters together and this is not a problem in your case. They will probably do just fine and the little mama will be thrilled to have pups to look after.

I had a mom lose her babies, she cried and looked for those babies for two days. Then another one gave birth to 5 babies. I took two of them and gave them to the other mom and she was sooooooooo happy. I cried just watching her mother those babies. At another time I had a mother of 1 week get sick and stop producing milk, I had another mother that had just weaned hers so I put the new babies on her. she tolerated them nursing as long as I would sit with her, but she wanted nothing to do with the mothering. I put the babies back to their mother between feedings. After the mom got to feeling better, her milk came back, since the puppies were still nursing from her between feedings.
