Puppy weight We rescued a beautiful puppy from a family who had purchased the puppy at a pet store! She is 7 months and weighs 11.5 lbs. Her legs and paws are chunky. She is well proportioned with a silky coat and floppy ears. We have an older Yorkie, 11 years, and her little legs are thin and she weighs 8lb. It won't change our love for Ginger Bear, just curious, is our puppy's weight and build unusual?

That is why I am curious since she is AKC registered. Our vet was pleased to see a larger Yorkie. I just wonder if she really is a purebred Yorkie. She looks like the Benji dog in the movies...major cute!

Well I have to say that AKC can sometimes mean just about the same as any other registrar. I can tell you I have a female and male that are CKC. The male was AKC, but since my female was CKC, I had to register the puppies CKC. I am going to be placing them for sale soon and they are very adorable regardless of their registrar. Now when I got my female she was from an elderly that couldn't care for her any longer. Her hair is silky to touch and she has the qualities of an "AKC standard" female. Short legs, snout etc. For example some people frown upon CKC stating "oh they can register anything". Well this is pretty true enough...BUT lets flip that around. I go and purchase a female AKC dog from a breeder.... 4 dogs ago she had an AKC dog that passed, ran away ..whatever. She purchased a pretty little yorkie with no paperwork (some people won't give you the paperwork). Then she sells me the dog with NO Paperwork under the AKC papers. I take the papers register the dog and wa-la the dog is now AKC. So as you can see... I really don't think a whole lot has to do with the dog being CKC or AKC (by way of pet quality) ((I am in no way referring to show-as show must be AKC)). What it really boils down to is the breeder. Whether they register CKC or AKC. So is she a purebred..maybe...maybe not. Is she AKC.. who knows. Best to just love her as she is and I'm am positive you do I definitly wouldn't breed her if you are uncertain. Just spay her and love her

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you 100%. There is no way we could love Ginger Bear more than we do, even if she grows to be a giant! She is smart, spirited and has been the star of her obedience class twice so far! I have learned so much from YT. Appreciate you taking the time to write to me.

AKC standard is not to exceed 7 pounds.....but, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.......

Thank you, that is exciting to hear. Guess all puppies can't be the absolute perfect size for their breed standard, but they sure can be perfect in every other way! Well, maybe not in potty training!

Welcome back Mary!! It is nice to have you back. I hope you had a great time. I hope your babies are all doing well, I am sure your hubby did a great job!! I am NOT joking Sherman will be 14 weeks tomorrow and at his last vet visit over 2 or 3 weeks ago he was tipping the scales at 8 pounds. He will be going again soon for his next visit and I will check his weight then. He is wider than Bella Mia but not as tall yet. He is very stocky looking with a bit of rolley polley in him. Shaun has been trying to be his main care giver so they will bond but Sherman is his own puppy so far not tending to like any one family member better than the rest. I am leaving early next week until November headed on a cruise to Italy for a girls trip with my mom for my 40th birthday. I am hoping Shaun will bond well with Sherman. He really wants Sherman to be "his" dog like Bella Mia is "my" dog. All the puppies went to their forever homes last week it was very bittersweet. I was sad to see them go but yet proud of the wonderful little pups they turned out to be. Again I appreciate your help and advice throughout pregnancy, whelping and raising of my lovebugs!

At this puppy stage, I'm sure Sherman is just into discovering the world around him and very content that all his needs are met, not caring as to who is meeting them. He'll come around and Shaun and he will become great buddies. All pups are doing well and hubby did a wonderful job with them. My 2oz lil boy is up to 1 lb 7 oz.....hubbie dubbed him LC for Little Charmer as he does look so much like his dad Charmer. Letting those lil guys go home to their new homes is the hardest part of whelping.....I cry so much when the leave......

LC is a cute name for a little guy! I am sure he is quite the charmer!Sounds like hubby did a great job! I am glad they are all well. Are you planning on keeping any? The puppies left different days so I ended up crying ALOT throughout the week. The last pup went home with my bestfriend from kindergarten. When she arrived to get her pup I told her just take him and go...I couldnt do one more goodbye! Bella Mia now growls when the door bell rings. She knows it means another puppy will be gone. I have seen pics of all of the pups and get updates from all the new mommies which I appreciate.

| Faith's problem was due to immature lungs, she was premature. Her problem developed at 5 days of age and cleared up within a week. But, it was touch and go. The encouraging thing is that she never stopped nursing...a good thing.
