You may also want to try putting them in a bigger area. I tried that gate thing too and nothing was happening....when I put mine in the garage to run around is when all the action happened.

Can you bring her in for a test to see if she is too early or if you missed it? Is artificial insemination an option for you?

Question:

Should I be counting 62 or 63 days from the first tie? I see various opinions ranging from 58-64......seems like 63 is most likely the day?

i count 63 days and hubby counts 62 days for his beagles. start expecting from day 58 on and you can't go wrong. LOL

im trying to convince myself that nature will just take its course i have been told that if she does become pregnant and i have not witnessed their miracle moment she will remain swollen down there after her heat has passed is this accurate and are there any other signs i would be able to look for i think if nature does not come through for us this heat cycle i might be looking into AI thanks again for everyones help

nyteacups: You always need to hold your female. Never leave them alone and let nature take its course. Your female could hurt your male if they did tie. If your female is taller he might need help reaching.

I was wondering if I could be directed to any site/video/info on immediate whelping care....such as cutting the cord, suctioning, heating, etc. I am a few weeks away from confirming if she is pregnant but I would like to get ahead of the game and fill myself with the knowledge and info.

Also, is that whelping recipe something to give momma even if the delivery is going well or only if needed?

In addition to the above question.....what would be considered a good weight for a newly born puppy. What weight would consistute concern?

When my taffy got pregnant I knew nothing about breeding, or whelping, since we were told that she was fixed when we adopted her from the rescue, I found a lot of valuable information at Debbie Jensen's site.. also I asked a breeder that I met thru my son to be my mentor he happend to live close to me, so I went and witness one of his beagle girl whelped and learned a lot..

I always just keep Nutri-cal on hand and I give some to the mom throughout the delivery. I have never used the whelping pudding. I recommend you order from Revival Animal Health, the Oral Cal Plus (fast acting calcium), Nutri-drops and I recommend their Doc Roy's Healthy Bones as a calcium supplement for the mom after the pups are born. The Oral Cal I would only use if mom has gone a long time between pups or if after she has pups she shows signs of eclampsia.

Pups can range in size from 2 oz to 7 oz. It does not matter if they are big or small they can all be susceptible to health issues during and after the birthing process. I think pups that are extremely small do have a harder time surviving because sometimes it is hard for them to latch on if the mom has big nipples.

Yes Debbie's site is amazing, I have a few more links somewhere in my desktop at home.. I will post them for you later, I did a LOT of reading and searching when we got the news that Taffy was pregnant.. my hubby use to tease me that I studied so hard that he was going to issue me a PHD in whelping...LOL but i wanted to be as prepared and ready as i was going to be.. now I am refreshing myself since I am mating my silkie next week when she is ready to my Harry boy for some Pure silky terrier pups..
again I am nervous and anxious and she just started bleeding tow days ago...LOL

How long is her vulva going to be swollen? Does it go normal if she isn't pregnant and by when? If she is pregnant does it stay swollen?

The vulva will usually stay somewhat swollen for two months whether she is pregnant or not. All females are different, some stay more swollen than others. One good indication of pregnancy is when they start having a clear gooey discharge but sometimes that does not occur until the last few weeks of pregnancy.
