Mine usually slow way down after the first 2 to 3 weeks. I weigh them daily for 3 weeks and then go to once a week unless I have a small one that I am watching.

Those charts are nuts. I have found the trippling at 8 weeks and doubling it at 12 weeks to be a little more accurate. But they do what they do, not like you can make them bigger or smaller.

I bought them the cutest christmas shirts. I got the smallest size but my mom will sew them smaller.....one says "bah humbug" and the other "hohoho"....so cute. I'm going to make christmas cards with them

Never mind me. I'm just thrilled so my "shopping" for these guys falls on your reading eyes, ha.

I have a pup right now that was 3lb.15 oz at 10 weeks, at 5 months she is 5lb 5oz and she has cut most of her permanent teeth so she won't grow much any more. If I had gone by the charts (well she wasn't even on the charts) she probably should have been like 30 pounds or something. Now I'm hoping that she actually gets a little bigger, I like my girls for breeding to be about 6 1/2 to 7 pounds.

Question:

One of my pups did a bit of shivering today...not sleeping...I gave him a tad of syrup and then held him close. He stopped shivering within 5 minutes. But, later he did it again....I did the same thing with the same result.

If this continues to happen....how much syrup would you give....he's about 18-20 ounces. I also have nutrical puppy....

These are fat and healthy pups...so i am unsure as to why he did that today. They fed real good....don't cry like they aren't getting milk or anything.

Any and all advice would be great.

I'd do the NutriCal Puppy instead of the syrup. If he stopped shivering then he may have been a bit low on sugar. Are you sure he's shivering and not twitching......You don't have them in a draft? Are then kept on the ground (remember cold air drops)

It's not the twitch that I know. It was shivering for sure. I have been sitting by their box since it happened and they seem fine now. I did put the heat pad on for a bit as well....just to be sure it wasn't temp. They just ate and then played a bit....which is the first i have seen of playing and my goodness that is adorable

They are in a huge rubbermaid box with the front cut open. There are two layers of blankets at the bottom. The box is on the floor. Is that ok? The room is about the size of a walk in closet and it has heat. I don't think it was from being cold.

Now, I did some reading on shivers and the first episode happened shortly after I had brought them into the livingroom to spend time with them in there. One site did say that stress could cause the shivers. Do you think that may have caused it?

If it happens again....how much nutrical would you give them for their size? I don't want to under or over do it.

About a 1/4 of an inch of PuppyCal will do.

I'd keep from moving them around....the first eight weeks of their lives handling should be kept at a minimum and all they need is mom and quiet. On week 8, that's the time when to begin introducing them to other parts of the house and other humans.

Ok. Thanks so much. That's good to know. My thought was that they are trying to be more mobile and walk....but they were so wobbly on all those blankets...so i layed down a blanket in the living room for them to try. I will now leave them to venture out on their own.

They are full, sleeping and warm. I think we are ok for now.

Oh, (my moment of joy coming up) they were play fighting each other! It only lasted a minute and then they fell asleep. So adorable It has no words. One even let out a teeny attempt at a bark when mom came in the box and he tried to play with her too. Who can stand it? I feel blessed.

My heart swells when I watch a new litter grow. Everyday is so new to them.

Wait till their 10 weeks of age and there are full fledged wars going on between them. I have a 14 week old lil girl here, that she is an in your face kinda of pup. Mom disciplines her and she just gets in her mothers face and talks back.
