Thanks Carmen! Well, monday would be 66 from last tie. I just worry that they will grow bigger than what she can handle....but, I'm new...maybe I shouldn't worry so early.

Not to start worrying yet........as I posted before. All is dependent on when she ovulated....She may have not ovulated until after the last tie.....Day 67 is the magic number.


Are you able to hear a heartbeat, are the pups active? If you're unsure of any of this, take her into the vet and have him examine her. He'll be able to tell you if she's dropped, where the pups are. I know we all tend to worry and 2nd guess ourselves....but, I'm so glad that you are being extra cautious.

Hi! They are very active at times during the day. I thought I'd take her in and have her checked over but only if there was no movement. They are very active. I think there is certainly 3 in there based on what I was seeing tumble around this morning. Maybe 4. I don't have a stethascope...but am not concerned at this point that they are weak or anything based on what I am seeing. I don't wanna stress her out and take her in for nothing. I have his cell number if any concerns come over the weekend.

I am sure she will be just fine. I have had females go as long as 70 days from the first breeding. The sperm can live up to 5 days or more so it is possible your girl got pregnant a couple of days after the last breeding. Do you remember what day of her heat cycle the second breeding was done on?

You won't stress her taking her in. Since this is your first time...he can better assist you in determining where those pups are.

Nature is great. Usually and I say usually, during the last week or so, mom's slow down a bit in their eating......mother nature's way of controlling the size. I know people get concerned about the growth (and you can have a larger one), especially if it's just one.....but, I've seen a litter of one weigh under 3 oz. There's no way your vet will perform a C-section now, with the possibility existing that they still maybe on the preemie side......

We've given you the danger signs and what to watch for should distress come into play....don't hestitate (and I know you won't) to contact your vet, or take her in, if you're unsure.

I think if monday comes around and she still hasn't had them then I will take her in even if by all apearances she seems fine.

If I can get someone to watch her for half and hour then I will go buy a thermometer for her and see how the next couple of days go. I am aware about the gums going cold if she is in shock so I am checking them often. So far they are warm as hot puddin'. I won't be hesitating to phone anyone, lol.

She wasn't eating her dry food for most of her pregnancy. I got high quality puppy wet and mixed it with her dry daily. I would say I gave her a few tablespoons three times a day of that mix. If I gave her a different meal then it would have been some rice and chicken. I hope I didnt over feed her.

I've had some not ovulate until their 16th day.....and have milked it past the 65 th day........I did run them to my vet though....nervous just like you.

Let me add, I have a female, now retired. Her last litter.....she gave me no signs, no glazed look, no digging, ate like a pig right up until she whelped. On day 64, I went to do some shopping (hubby was here with her). When I came back 45 minutes later, she'd whelped her first pup......again she gave us no signs that whelping time was near.....this girl's temp never dropped and always acted normal right up until her first contraction hit her. Always had them either the 63rd or 64th day of her last breeding, always gave me 3 pups and delivered them in 3 hours......

I have to re-make that whelping pudding. How long does it stay good in the fridge. I made a batch the night before her first due date and that was last tuesday night....I should remake it....but want to know how long it stays good in the fridge.....

I don't make the whelping pudding until she is in labor, I have the nutri drops to give her if needed,so when she starts nesting I leave hubby or anyone home with her and run to the kitchen and mix the pudding and put it in the fridge, by the time whelping comes is ready to give to her. I usually discard anything left by the 4th day.

Make a new batch....what you'll want to give her right after whelp is the goats milk recipe I gave you.

I do the NutriDrops to help her along, if needed and immediately after. Also, administer a couple of drops onto the puppies gums.

The goats milk recipe I give at times between puppies, if she'll take it. But definately as soon as she's been cleaned up and puppies are with her. I pour into a cereal bowl and put it under her chin, I've never had one turn their nose up at it.

Recipe:

1 12 oz can of goats milk
= part of distilled water - I usually make sure the water has been refrigerated, a bit more refreshing to them.
1 tablespoon of Karo Syrup
1 well beaten egg yolk
Shake and serve

Always keep goats milk on hand......for after whelp and you never know when you may have to supplement.

Goats milk, Karo Syrup and distilled water are staples around here at whelping time.
