What a sweet little pile of puppies! That's better on the weights, but they still are so tiny. Congrats on the new additions.:p

I woke up this morning and Roxie's belly had almost completely disappeared!! I am so confused. It feels like her ribs are thick but her waist is small again. Ahhh this is so frustrating. Maybe she is having a false pregnancy? I don't know what to think.

So you didn't take her in to be palpitated or for an ultrasound I take it? I have to do that for my own sanity. And even now........we had an ultrasound that clearly showed a puppy, but with just one Halle is still not big enough to calm my nerves. She's got kind of a long body so there's plenty of room for that baby to stretch out. Roxie's due around the same time as Halle..........can you post of picture or two of her belly for us?

gosh Rose- I have already forgotten what those bellies look like! I am guessing at least 4! :D I know that Molly really expanded from day 42 to 48- like someone filled her full of air. I will try and post a pic

FOUR???? I'm still freaking out wondering if she's going to have the one. I need some movement to prove something is in there.

I really couldn't feel anything until after day 48 and then there was a lot of activity but I didn't want to press too hard since I didn't know what I was feeling for so I waited till I could see movement

Congratulations and Good Luck to Everyone that has an August litter!

This is actually my first post on this board, but I've been a lurker for a bit.

My baby Roxy will be delivering her first litter in August and I have to admit I am scared to death. I didn't plan on breeding her quite yet and unfortunately I was out of town when she was in heat and my son (he's 18) didn't bother to listen to my instructions and keep them separated when they went outside to do their business (Roxy wore a diaper in the house).

I have an appointment to take her into the vet this Thursday to get an xray of her belly to let me know how many puppies she's going to have. She has gotten HUGE and I am scared to death she will go into labor early. She tied with my male Yorkie Axl on June 8, so if my calculations are correct she should be whelping around August 10th. I've already planned vacation around it and have enlisted my son as the "watcher" of momma and pups after they are born. I figured it was the least he could do after not following my instructions.

Anyway, here is a pic of Roxy (momma) and Axl (daddy) and also a shot I took of Roxy last night. I'm anxious to find out how many babies she's going to have, but I'm also SUPER SCARED about the delivery process. I've gained a lot of knowledge here on the boards and I'm hoping that it will help me get thru anything that may come my way during her delivery.

You might watch close on August 8th.. Mine usually go at 61 days :)

OMG, KimMee- your pics kinda make me feel better, Ya-Ya's lil tits are the size of your girl's (day 44) NOW. But this morning as well i woke up & her tummy totally shrunk, as she stood correctly I came over her & touched her belly & it looked like there was NOTHING there. the only thing is her "glands" breasts look a lil saggy! is that normal? I see her licking dwn there but no discharge, im thinking her last tie was 6 days after the 1st one, & thats when she was def pinkish- could she maybe be a wk behind??? any ideas?

She surely could be a week behind. She may not have gotten PG til her last tie which would be 6 days later than you think. It all depends on when she ovulated. Going by tie dates is just an estimate.

Wow, that's quite a difference! I feel a little better now.

she may not only be a week behind but the sperm can live for 5 days I believe and the eggs at least 3 if I remember correctly. This was my first whelp so I have read so much I can't remember it all. Also my girl Molly had a clear discharge this late in the pregnancy plus at about 30 days my other dogs started treating her differently so I suspected she was pregnant even though my vet couldn't palpate anything the first visit. I wish you luck in your desire for puppies.

are ya'll sure that palpitating is completely safe??? I know a lot of people do it but the vet that I am taking my girl to isn't really a specialty veterinarian. I have tried to kind of feel myself but I always stop because I feel like I might hurt a baby or pop one of those bubbles. I am taking her in this Monday and maybe have the vet try to feel how many is in there but I want to make sure it will in no way hurt them. any advice? she is 5 weeks today.
thanks
Kara

Palpation can be dangerous if not done properly and it should be done at around 4 weeks.

RoxieHart 08-01-2009 07:20 PM

I was gone all day with my hubby at an amusement park, and I just got home about 5 minutes ago.. grabbed Roxie to take a pic of her belly, and now it's fuller than it was this morning. But still a lot smaller than it was a couple of days ago. Hmm. Her little boobies seem to be bigger, especially her nips, than they were this morning. Goodness, I probably sound like a loony !

I was thinking of taking her in for a blood test on Monday, but now I'm feeling a little more reassured by looking at her nips. You know, maybe she was smaller this morning because she went all night without eating..? And maybe she only has one pup in there. I will take a pic anyway for you guys.

thanks for that advice! I did not know that it had to be done at 4 weeks. I am glad I asked. so do you think I should tell my vet not to palpitate if he wants to do it? anything else I should maybe ask the vet or watch for? everything is all so new to me. I have done a lot of research but reading and real life is still very different. But I am so glad that this site is here and I want to thank all of the breeders on here that spend there time helping other people.
thanks
Kara

I would wait. I think most people just recommend an x-ray about a week before the female is due. You are so right about there being a big difference in just reading about whelping and experiencing it. I have been breeding over 12 years and I am still learning new things.

Morning Ladiesssss... I am a VERY happy camper (well hope to be), I thought I was going crazy but hubby confirmed it for me. We were playing with her this morning & just turned her over, all of a sudden as im rubbing her belly I notice a bump/ball in her stomach that I knew wasnt there before, as were talking & rubbing the bump, it all of a sudden disappeared! we looked at each other like was that really a baby maybe moving?! So I feel a lil better. Is it possible that could have been a puppy? we felt very softly around the rest of her belly & nothing, like it went into thin air, so i assume its either 1 puppy or maybe more but b/c they are so tiny they are hiding... at 5.5 wks can I actually feel the balls moving???

My son and I saw Roxy's puppies move for the first time this afternoon and it was the neatest thing. Roxy is 52 days from the first tie and I just look at her with pity. She looks so miserable, it's hard to believe her little body can hold five puppies.

Here is the most recent belly shot...
