We are expecting a litter of Australian Shepherds on Aug. 20th. Our Yorkie, Tatum, is spayed but I always read the breeder section just out of curiosity and have learned quite a bit. A 30 lb dog giving birth is quite different from a little Yorkie but I've still picked up some valuable information here.

This is actually my first post on this board, but I've been a lurker for a bit.

My baby Roxy will be delivering her first litter in August and I have to admit I am scared to death. I didn't plan on breeding her quite yet and unfortunately I was out of town when she was in heat and my son (he's 18) didn't bother to listen to my instructions and keep them separated when they went outside to do their business (Roxy wore a diaper in the house).

I have an appointment to take her into the vet this Thursday to get an xray of her belly to let me know how many puppies she's going to have. She has gotten HUGE and I am scared to death she will go into labor early. She tied with my male Yorkie Axl on June 8, so if my calculations are correct she should be whelping around August 10th. I've already planned vacation around it and have enlisted my son as the "watcher" of momma and pups after they are born. I figured it was the least he could do after not following my instructions.

Anyway, here is a pic of Roxy (momma) and Axl (daddy) and also a shot I took of Roxy last night. I'm anxious to find out how many babies she's going to have, but I'm also SUPER SCARED about the delivery process. I've gained a lot of knowledge here on the boards and I'm hoping that it will help me get thru anything that may come my way during her delivery.

I am also expecting an August litter, and I also have a Roxy. But I spell it Roxie. I've been a long-time lurker but I just decided to sign up and jump right in, hope that's ok. I feel like I know some of you already.

Roxie is due somewhere in the vicinity of August 18th. Hers was also an accidental breeding :rolleyes:. I went out of state to visit my family and my friend 'kindly' offered to watch her for me. Big yard, fenced, other dogs to play with, etc etc. Sounds good, right? Wrong! I was informed later by my friend that she witnessed multiple ties between her little yorkie male and my Roxie!!! Then she had the nerve to ask me for a stud fee. Of course I refused and told her the only fee she'll be getting is a bill from my vet for Roxie's prenatal care. :thumbdown I suppose she thought she was doing me a favor..?!

Anyway, she is estimated to be due around the 18th but there is no way for me to be sure, since I was away for nearly three weeks. I'm just guessing with the dates that the ties were witnessed. She definitely has a swelly belly that becomes a lot more pronounced after she eats or drinks. Is this normal? Or should her belly stay the same size all the time? She also has a bit of discharge. I'm just a worried mama because this is Roxie's (and my) first litter and I have obviously had minimal time to prepare myself. I do plan on getting an x-ray soon to check the number of pups, and the size of her pelvic region.

Of course it's normal for a belly to be more swelly when it is full after eating. Sounds like Roxie is due around the same time as Halle. A clear discharge is normal and a definite sign of pregnancy. Don't take her for an xray til about 1 week prior to her expected due date. If done to early, the puppies bones will not be calcified enough to show up well & you won't get an accurate count & size determination. Prepare yourself by reading all you can here, and the debbie jensen website is full of great information. You can also google canine pregnancy and come up with tons of reading material. Thank you luckylady :) I've definitely been reading and researching all that I can. I must have read debbiejensen's site a hundred times now, lol. It's bookmarked! I am taking her in for an xray around August 10th. 8 days before she's due. But she might be due a couple of days earlier too. I'm just hoping for the best. We should all post pictures of our girls' bellies to see how they compare, just for fun. I'm thinking Roxie might only have 1 or 2 in there.

I'm one up on you already; Halle's first belly pic @ day 30 or so is up at the beginning of the thread. I'll post another Thursday probably. My ultrasound only showed one pup; she's growing a belly, but not to big. So, let's see Roxie's !!! And take pics of the ultrasound and post those too.

Congratulations Rose! Seems just y'day that Toby and Halle got "married"!! I am so excited for them to have some precious little babies!!

Oh I'm not doing the ultrasound, just the xray. But I will definitely post pics when I get it done. I'm trying to take a belly pic right now, but Roxie isn't loving being manhandled, lol. She's not much of a belly-up girl. Hopefully I'll have a good one posted in a few minutes!

congrats on all the babies that are expected. You all must be sooo excited! I would love to have another but hubby says no. :(:(:(

:confused: It seems I've seen that message before, but I don't know why. Are you sure you're doing it correctly? If the picture is to big it won't take. Can you resize it and make it smaller, then try again?

Kayla temp today is 98.3. She is panting, pacing, and acting uncomfortable. This weekend I'll go to sleep in my sister's house to see the future mom. She is expecting 4 puppies.

With a temp like that and what you described, sounds like she might just be having a July litter! She sure sounds close, but these girls do have a way of keeping us waiting........and guessing.:rolleyes: God luck to you & Kayla.

Gosh, 6 weeks.........she and Halle are due just about the same time. I'm thinking her belly looks a little bigger than Halle's; the pic is small so kind of hard to tell. I'm going to guess 3.:)
I'll take another picture of Halle's belly after work today and post it. She is 6 weeks today, give or take a day or two.

It's Thursday! :p Looking forward to hearing how many and hopefully to see an xray picture. Those are so awesome, you are gonna love it! I'm going to guess you'll be seeing .................... 5 puppies!

I am expecting an aug litter too! Aug the 7th.
I for sure hear 4 heartbeats sometimes I think 5. I'm not going to do xrays this time.

That sure is a big tummy picture. I wish you luck and a safe whelping. My litter is due 8/28, but then again she is a Shih-Tzu, so not sure if anyone wants to see those belly pics.

I also breed Shih Tzus too they always get the nice big belly near the end too :)

Love the belly pics! I wish our Stormie (the Aussie) would get a big belly to rub on but she won't get big like these. She does have a little pooch now though. We keep telling her to take care of those babies she's cookin' in there. ;)

Lucy is due for today.

She is eating normally,digging in her box a little, her temperature is a little lower since yesterday but not much (37.3-37.5).

She had almost no symptoms lats time with so I have been home for the past 3 days... waiting...

I'll start my own puppy watch thread soon hopefully! :D

My girl is also due the 28th or 29th so maybe we will be having pups at the same time! I will be spending all my time on here being that this is my first time whelping. I need all the help I can get!

Wow, that's quite the belly! She's big all the way from top to bottom. I'd guess maybe 5 also, looking at that picture. How much did she/does she weigh?

The mom is so natural, she did everything!!!!!!!
