Yorkie Talker | Question about breeding.............. I am just curious, I have had some breeders tell me, that the AKC will recognize a daughter bred back to her father. How can this be true????????? |

| Yes, it is true. Inbreeding have gone on for hundreds of years. That is in part what has contributed to so many different breeds being developed. AKC does not regulate how breeders breed their dogs, their main concern is that the lines remain pure and the dogs that are registered have the correct parentage. |

| Here are just a couple of articles on inbreeding. Types of Breeding: Inbreeding, Line-breeding, outcrossing, outbreeding PROS AND CONS OF INBREEDING DOGS, Inbreeding Dogs The joy of breeding your own show dog - Google Book Search You can find a lot more information on the internet just by googling 'dog inbreeding'. I am not advocating that it is necessarily a good thing but it is something that has been done for hundreds of years. Breeding animals is not the same as us humans having relations, we have morals and animal don't. Closely related animals breed in the wild all the time, those that are strong survive and those that are defective die. To breed correctly it is best to know what you are doing, whether inbreeding, line breeding or outcrossing. They all have their risks and you can get excellent or bad results from any of type of breeding. |

| Inbreeding is done to set type. If you have a super dog with great traits and health it is bred to another dog with traits you desire. Then it is usually daughter bred back to father or son to mother to combine these traits and set type. Only people with many years of dog experience should attempt this as you could also get undesirable traits. If you research alot of great pedigrees you will find this, linebreeding and outcrossing. I do not do this but i have seen many pedigrees like this. Sue |

| In my opinon if you are going to be inbreeding as with father to daughter you really have to know what your dogs are producing and KNOW what you are doing...it shouldn't be done with an inexperience breeder. I feel it's only done when a breeder is very experience and that comes with improving the breed and done for showing purposes and breeding knowing what "EXACTLY" what you are doing. It's not for every breeder to do... I will only breed as close as grandfather to granddaughter and visa versa. I know some who will breed to half sister to half brother...but again it has to be with a very experienced breeder with knowledge of their lines and pedigrees...
