| I prefer using larger females in my breeding program. I prefer my females to be in the 6 to 8 lbs range. The yorkie standard says 'not over 7 lbs' as the recommended size. There are many show dogs that become champions that are over 7 lbs and these are produced by very reputable breeders. Being over 7 lbs is just considered a fault, like a bad topline or a bad bite, incorrect tail set, etc. It is very easy to correct size if you have a larger bitch then just breed her to a small male that comes from small lines. It is much easier to breed down than it is to breed up. Of course, ideally, we would all just have yorkies in the 4 to 7 lbs range but believe me, it is not as easy and one would think to consistently have litters within the ideal range. But I am just basing that on my experience and observation. |

white.tan and brown. id adopted him in may from a lady who said he was too much for her but he fit right in here. she tool him to the vet in feb and his record said he was 3.45lbs i read here that they are only suppose to double it by so many weeks.I took him to the vet and they said he weigthed 9lb! i really think thats wrong he feels more like 6-7lbs. they told me he was prefectfully heatlhy and looked great. i do think 4-10lbs should be the standard but thats my opinoin. even though they say snickers is 9(i dont believe that) any smaller my 10month old jesse james who is 23lbs would detroys him. so if i were to get a female smaller than him he would hurt her?

| Snickers is 7months. i was told he wont go any tallee or bigger unless i over feed him. but then again you never know. i dont know why i didnt ask the lady these questions. My mind was just set on making sure i could have him. ill email her and ask her. im trying to research but i read if he isnt tiny or a champion then its useless to do so. I hope thats not true. Anyone know of a good book or website? p.s. how do i get pretty pictures pf snickers like you guys have. are there really professionals that will do it? i can never get him to stay still!! |

Your yorkies are beautiful. My little man is over the standard and I love him that way. I will eventually get another one thats approx the same size. Capone is about 9lbs but he doesn't get tired so easily and he isn't as fragile as the tiny ones.

| I have a little boy that is going to be around 7-9lbs when grown. He is 14wks old now and currently weighs in at 4.5lbs. I am actually having a hard time selling him because everyone wants the smaller ones. I will end up keeping him if I don't find a home for him soon. |

You can learn a lot here on yt and there are books I have seen recommended but I don't remember off hand what those books were. As for pictures, just get a digital camera and start taking pictures. Usually you can get them to stand still with a treat or just take some candid shots when he is relaxing.

Thanks. I have already reduced the price, but will just have to wait & see if someone wants a studier yorkie. It's nice having him though. He's so playful.

Just get him neutered and enjoy him as a pet. If he's used as a stud, his personality will change anyway. Intact males develop all sorts of undesirable behaviors like marking.
