| Is is disrespectful to negotiate a stud fee? I found a stud that is registered with the same kennel as my female. But I was wondering if $500.00 is too much to pay for a stud fee. The stud is not a proven stud and this would be his first breeding as well as for my female. Is it disrespecting to negotiate the price of a stud fee? I have not came up with a contract either. Does anyone have a sample breeding contract I can look at so that I can have an idea what to include in there?

| I dont think that it is disrespectable to neg. a stud fee. What does his background pedigree look like? You want to know what you are getting as far as the quality of the dog. If he has never studded before, How do you know it will take, Make sure that the contract states a complete tie. I am sure that there are breeders and stud people on this forum that will read your thread and copy you a contract. There are so many variables for the studding of a dog. So much that can happen, Please check into it. there are tests that should be done on the male. I dont have my paperwork that I researched because I just decided to buy a male and breed myself. But there are people on here that will have more answers then I did. Good Luck |

| i don't think it is disrespectful at all to negotiate. I also think 500. is way to much for an unproven stud. You can bred to a champion male in some states for that price. Also, ditto what the other poster said about picking the stud. it is the stud owner's place to provide the contract. |

| stud fee It is common to reduce the fee if the male is not proven...$500 for a proven stud is fair. Perhaps, half is not... |

| i also feel 500.00 is a fair stud fee. there are only two other studs that i know of in my area. one is for a 5 generation champion pedigree for a silky terrier and she charges 2000.00. the other for a yorkie is 1000.00....only a few champion .....she uses this as her selling tool. so, i think it is a fair price but due to the stud not being proven, i would definately go lower. i would just ask nicely if the price is neg. due to him not being proven.

| Is the stud a champion or at least pointed? Is his breeder current on all the test necessary and will she be responcible for the pups in the event that you can't? The selection of the stud is very important, make sure he ihas the genetic makeup that you want your pups to carry. I think $500. is a bit much for an unproven male but I guess it really does depend on where you're located. This should all be discussed with the studs owner and put down in writing.

| It's not uncommon to not charge a stud fee on an unproven stud.

| There are several options. Bite the bullit, negotiate a percentage of the sale price on each puppy, or a puppy back.

I was just asking because one of my friend didn't charge for stud fee and the lady never respected the contract stipulating that my friend would have a pup . The bitch had 5 pups and the woman sold 3 of them and kept 2 . They went in court and the judge told my friend " what could we do its life , why deprieving a poor woman of her living" ? | |
