Can I get some advice please? Hello and Thank you for reading....My sister had a beautiful Female Yorkie that gave birth to puppies 3 weeks ago. She had gotten very sick after the birth of these beautiful puppies and sadly didn't make it. When this happen the puppies were 3 days old. My sister had nowhere to turn so I took the puppies from her and bottle fed them. They are now 3 wk's old and my concern is They are eating l5 to 25 cc every 4 hours they weigh l3.9oz witch is awesome at this point. But one of the little boy's has the diarrhea and someone told me to give him pedialyte (mix it with the formula) I was just wondering if anyone here had this happen to them or has any advise? I'm thinking about taking them to the vet but don't want to rush there if there was something else that I could do? My sister is so devastated over this. I'm afraid for her she blames herself for what has happened even though it wasn't her fault. The mom had lost to much blood during delivery and was not replacing back fast enough, by the time my sister realized she was in trouble it was to late. So please if anyone can give me advise I would respectfully take it. Thanking you in advance Desiree

| Hi Desiree, i wish i had some advise to give you, can you call a vet? It is a wonderful thing you have done for these puppies and they owe their lives to you im sure. Too bad you couldnt have found a momma that would have adopted them. But you did the next best thing. I hope someone comes along to give you some great advise! renae

Diarrhea in a small puppy can be fatal quickly if he dehydrates. Please take him to a vet or at least call a vet

WOw that is alot of milk every 4 hours. I would have the pup examined by your vet. Pedialite should not be mixed with formuls if it is to be given it should be given as is. If he is taken and seen by the vet ask him what he would give for a dosage of pedialte. We had to use it a few times but mine was much smaller than your 13 ozers and I gave 1- 1 1/2 cc pedialte then a feeding of formula a hour later. I just hand raised a small premature puppy from birth she is now 10 weeks and doing great it is alot of work but well worth it all Last edited by 011011; 01-28-2009 at 03:14 PM.

Thank you for replying...I took them to the vet and took a stool sample with me. All the test came back negative so she told me to give them 14 cc formula mixed with 6 cc bottled water for atleast 2 days. She looked it up and said that they needed to be eating 90 to 120 cc in a 24 hour period. So that works out to be 20 cc every 4 hours that equal 6 feedings total. I also thought that what I was feeding them was a lot but she said they are at the perfect weight. But why he has the diarrhea she didn't know they are sending out the stool sample for further testing and she will call me tomorrow if something is found. I just can't bare the thought of something happening to one of them. My sister is going to keep these two she has already named them Patches and Pockets.....Soo Cute..ut if anyone has a better idea I would love to hear it. Thanks again and I will keep you updated on their progress. Please keep them in your prayers.

You certainly did the right thing by bringing them to the vet. When they begin to fail it goes very quickly and it is important to keep them warm, fed and hydrated. I will keep you and your puppies in my prayers and I am so sorry for the loss of the mother. Our Deepest Condolences....
