| Your retired girls? When your females retire. How old are they? Do they stay with you or do you re-home them? If you re-home them do you charge a fee? Where do I look to re-home her? Is it CRUEL to re-home her? As you have guessed. I am retiring my little girl. I have had offers from people to take her but I really want a special home for her. One with time to spend with her and yes, the money to care for her properly. She is UTD on her shots, Had her teeth cleaned a few months ago and will be spayed before leaving. I am looking in advance it will be about 5 months before it's time. I want to have a home waiting.... I have no idea what to charge or where to look. She is a beautiful little girl, so loving and sweet.. If someone has advice I would be grateful. |

| I have several retired females that are just part of our family that I would never part with and I have had a few others that I have either sold or placed for free in to loving homes over the years. One was 3 years old and a few other were 5 or 6 years old. I know it is a difficult thing to do. My advise is to just take your time and ask many questions. What you charge is totally up to you. I feel that finding the best home is the most important thing but I personally think anywhere from $200 to $500 for a retired female is reasonable, depending on her age. You just need to find a home that would be best suited to your female's personality. It is not cruel to rehome if you find the right home. Some dogs would have a hard time adjusting and other would do just fine. It really depends on their personality. A yorkie that has been not been raised with children would probably have a hard time adjusting to a house full of kids and people. A yorkie that has been raised with free run of the home and that is used to being around people all the time would not be happy in a home where they are penned up and the new owners are gone a lot. Personally I like to retire my dogs with people that are retired or stay at home and can devote a lot of time to taking care of their yorkie. Best of luck to you. |

| Thank you for your help. She is such a sweet girl. I want to give her the perfect place to live and be loved. Where do you start to look for the perfect home? I do NOT want to simply place a newspaper add. BTW she is 5 years and 4 months old. |

| I always advertised on a local website in our area but I do not list my phone number. They have to email me and I get back with them. I interview as many people as is necessary before I make a decision. Also, you can make up a questionnaire for them to fill out and email back to you. You could also talk to your vet and possibly put an ad up at the vets office. And, of course, many people find loving homes for their retired pets through Yorkie Talk. You just have to do whatever method you feel most comfortable with. |

| i have two, five year old girls I am going to place any day noww but finding them a great home that is willing to take them together has been a real challenge. i gave them to a person I thought was my friend, got them back in terrible shape four months later. Now that they are healthy again, i have run an ad in my local paper for two weeks and only two calls. In the ad, I asked $100 for them feeling that if people pay a little something, they will take better care of it. i am willing to give them away to the best home tho. I only had two people call from my ads and they were extremely unsuitable homes for my baby girls. other than these, I have only retired one other girl and I gave her to a good friend of mine and she is living like a Princess. |

| If you decide to rehome her, I'm sure someone here on YT would gladly take her!

Oh boy, That is scary. If I might ask, what was wrong with the two homes? I am afraid of her going out of state and not knowing how she is doing.

| Well, my five and six pound girls were TOO LARGE for the first home. They wanted a two pound female. LOL. She made some other remarkss that let me know she is ignorant in dog ownership. I told her that if that is all the education she has regarding yorkies, my girls wouldn't go to her no mattr what they weighed. Then the second home was way out in the country. Very nice lady till I drove past her home. She has broken down furniture on her ramshackle porch, three mangy outside dogs and a hogpen in the front yard. i didn't even go inside. I saw enough. |

My Niece is @ University of Kentucky and is home for the holidays. I hope you find wonderful forever homes for them... 2 more would be great!!

| That would be really nice. Someone would have to come to get her though. She is well worth a trip First things first. I want to have her spayed. She did really well with the IV when she had her teeth cleaned but she was totally out of it for about 12 hours. My poor little girl didn't even know me or hold her head straight! I hate sedation but I know this needs to be done. |

Placing a yorkie is the hardest thing I have ever done, and although it has been only one, my best friend took him.. at no charge.. he was up to date on all shots... and the deal was she pay for being altered... and she loves him to death and walks him every signal day even tho she works... anne

| My first three yorkies were rescues and one that had been bred and was not producing what the breeder wanted... that is how I fell in love with this breed... we had never had a dog.. and I was ignorant to owning one.. but wow they teach you really fast if your willing to learn.. Do a contract and have the rights to take this girl back into your home should you feel this dog is not being cared for the way you would expect.. there are many many people and I was one that would give lots of love in those years but did not want to pay large dollars for a small dog..yet they lived the best life and got vet care as needed.. hence is is not always easy to label a person neither.. you can also find some one that does not connect with the dog.. I was able to take the dogs first.. and if it did not work.. I was able to return without quilt of doing so.. but it worked out fine.. but took a lot of pressure off of me.. for at those ages... it is not easy .... good luck.. I know you will make the right decision.... anne |
