| ![]() I bought a Yorkie on my birthday as a present to myself with my girlfriend. I have grown really attached to it. He follows me everywhere and goes to work with me. I have been thinking allot about breading him, was mostly interested in stud service at first. Recently I came across a female silkie. She is 2 years old, she would be considered the alpha of her past household. We brought her here and she has become the same way. They get along great, however she needs to be the center of attention. All this aside my basic question is. If i decide to breed these two, is this a popular breed? Yorkie silkie, does anyone have any websites I can learn more about this? I would love to hear opinions and researched responses. Thanks so much. |

| ![]() I wouldnt breed them. There is so much confusion about the two breeds being so much alike and that would add to it

| ![]() I mean the fur of the silky is really sleek and easy to maintain compared to the yorkie. Plus the yorkie is a miniature and she is a teacup. It might make a really cute mix in that aspect. Or as some would call designer dogs. |

| ![]() No, it is not a popular breed because it is not a breed at all...it's a combination of two breeds. ![]() Quote:
I think that in this case, that was probably the best move. No mistakes or hard lessons from breeding when not prepared and she will be able to be the center of someone's world as I'm sure she deserves to be. | |

| ![]() I see you already rehomed her. I can't remember who wrote on here about the yorkies hair being harder to take care of, not all yorkies are hard to take care of. I can go weeks without having to comb mine, and still can comb right through her. To the op, I've never seen a yorkie/silkie mix, the 2 dogs looks so much alike other than the longer snout on the silkie. Also, the hair on the silkie doesn't seem to grow as long as the yorkie..Good luck on whatever you decide to do. |

| ![]() I am not a breeder but after having read quite a few posts about breeding, I wouldn't want to chance my girl's health or life with it. I am very happy to have my two. I would probably say that breeding is best left to those who know what they are doing. Lot's of things unexpected things can happen. Enjoy your little guy. Would love to see pictures and hear about him. Welcome to the site. ![]()

| ![]() ok, well as far as the breeding goes. I understand that they wouldn't make a full bred dog. Obviously, however, I was just wondering if there was anything out there about breeding them on the web. I brought her in as a mere companion for the yorkie I had. When I said re-homed, re-home was to me. Her originally owner was diagnosed with cancer. I am not a breeder looking to make a dime in that aspect. If it were to happen it would be mostly for pets for friends and things of that nature. I was mostly just trying to find out if there was any information if I do decide to let them breed. Posting this was not to get the response as cowboys and red skins fans. I just wanted some insight. Hope everyones holiday week is going well! |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | ![]() Don't get on the defensive, the posts here are quite tame and everyone's only trying to save you a lot of potential heart ache. ![]() First of all, welcome to YT. Thank you for giving this girl a home. As you know, there are a lot of "designer dogs" out there. That is a term that is frowned upon. I DO think Morkies, etc., are cute, but they aren't a breed so therefore they certainly aren't any kind of standard. My guess is if you bred a yorkie and a silky together, all you would get is some puppies who look like nonstandard yorkies or silkies. There is nothing wrong with puppies who aren't standard, but there's no sense in breeding FOR them. Honestly, if your friends want pets, tell them to go to a nearby shelter. There are plenty of potential pets whos' time is running out. OR tell them to go to a reputable breeder who breeds to better the breed. There are a lot of ways that they could get a pet. People who breed should be doing it for the love of the breed and to better a breed. If someone breeds just because they want to try it, they are just overpopulating the already bursting dog population. Take a trip to your local pound or shelter - look at all of the mix breeds in there, do you really want to add to that number? This really is the site you want to be on if you want information. There is no reasn you couldn't be a breeder in the future - but I would hope that you will educate yourself, and only breed for the love of a breed, not to make cute little puppies with any random dogs. Especially because you said that your girl is a teacup (which is also a term that is frowned upon, as it is usually used as a marketing ploy), it is very dangerous to breed very small dogs. Is the male bigger than her? The puppies could grow too big for her to carry, and she could A) Die during birth B) need a C-Section (that costs A LOT of money and is also very dangerous) or C) lose the puppies, which would be devestating to her. If you want to be a breeder, this is an excellent resource of a site. There are many, many very experienced breeders on here who would be willing to help you find a lot of information. I hope that you get your girl spayed, do TONS of reasearch on the breed, then if you still decide that it's for you, look into getting some truly standard dogs. Best of luck to you. Stick around - there's endless amounts of information! ![]() ~Megan

| ![]() Thank you. Sorry I was just a little frustrated at not finding much information. I took her in and she is a great dog, don't get me wrong. I have a yorkie, i bought as a birthday present for me and my girlfriend. I do appreciate your response. That was what I was looking for. I was not intending to ruin the breed and such. I know about the shelters and such. I have another from there I rescued years ago. I just couldn't find anything online about these two. Trust me I was not planning on taking her home to breed. This was merely to get some information and see what insight people had. TO better educate me. I am reading into breeding pure breds. Eventually I wanted to do it, however I need to get the right information and this I know. Happy Holidays. |

| ![]() You are not getting much info on Yorkie to Silkie breeding because not many people do it...in particular not in a manner that you would want to replicate! I'm not sure what information you came here looking for, but it seems like you are getting some good honest advice and opinions based on the situation as you have described it. |
