| ![]() Poor little girl!! I pray she gets better and doesn't need surgery. But on an encouraging note, I used to have pet rats and was accidently given 1 male and 1 female when I asked for two females. They ended up having babies and I didn't have the heart to get rid of one of the parents because I loved them. So I had my male neutered. Although he was a large rat, he was MUCH smaller than a 6 week old yorkie pup and he pulled out of the anesthesia like a trooper. I'm sure this little girl will come out of anesthesia just fine if she unfortunately has to go under. |

| ![]() Nikki, I had a similar situation years ago with one of my puppies. The eye looked much the same as the pic. She had anesthetic drops, prednisone drops and antibiotic oint. that I had to rotate every 1-2 hours. Her eye cleared up fine and she is an adult with 2 good eyes. As for surgery at that age--had to do that too. I had a little female in my second litter many years ago and she developed a HUGE femoral hernia. I was so concerned about strangulation that I insisted one of the most experienced vets in the practice do her surgery. She recovered completely and was a happy healthy girl in about 3 days... These babies are very resilient...the eye turns that color when it gets traumatized..seems that is part of how it handles the hurt. Good luck with her and the rest of the younguns.. |

| ![]() Nicki, I'm so sorry! I know you're worried to pieces. She's still beautiful and will continue to be so. I hope everything turns out okay and she's not in pain anymore. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed that she wont need surgery.

| ![]() That happened to my adult Shih Tzu, Joe, earlier this year. His eye looked far worse. You could see a perfectly round circle that was the wound (We think the neighbor shot him with a bb when he was in the back yard) and his whole eye was swollen and completely clouded over. The whites of his eye was dark red. Antibiotic drops cleared it up, his vision is fine, and I thought for sure he would lose it!! I think your baby will be fine. You caught it early and you're treating it.

| ![]() Thank you everyone, she seems in much better spirits today and the bottom of the eye is turning dark brown again, so hopefully that's a good thing. She hates these drops, I don't blame her...but she lets me do it without a fight. I think she knows they're helping her, she is such a sweet little girl. I like the story about the little rats, and the tiny girl who had to go through surgery so small...that makes me feel a little better in case she DID have to have it...but I'm really hoping the antibiotics do the trick. ![]() |

| ![]() I hope your little one doesn't have to have surgery, if it makes you feel better after Tarra shattered her elbow and I had to crate her for 9 weeks, the first few days where not easy but then she adjusted and did fine. It about killed me to do it, cause I don't like crates either, but to save her leg from limping the rest of her life I did it, and it does go faster than you think. I will be prayer for her Nikki and you too! ![]()

| ![]() Nicki -- I am so sorry to hear about your little one's eye injury. Eyes are amazing organs. They are so self healing. Emmitt scratched his cornea when he was a pup - it was a fairly deep scratch and I was presented with the eye ointment treatment first and if that didn't work then surgery. Fortunately for us the antibiotic cream worked. One thing my vet told me to look for was blood vessels working their way down to the eye from above. That is a GOOD thing even though it looks horrible 'cause those blood vessels promote healing. The surgery step for us would have been to stitch the eye lid (was it the second or third?) closed so that the eye would be protected and could heal. I will keep this sweet baby in my thoughts and prayers.... and I'll be looking for updates. Emmitt was closer to 1 1/2 - 2 lbs. when he had his eye injury - he is now a whopping 3.5 lbs. full grown and he has NO visible scar tissue. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Oh poor baby. My first Yorkie, tried to get under a chain link fence and ulcerated his eye, and the vet gave him ointment and drops to numb his eye. The vet said if it didn't heal he would have to go to a specialist. But it healed up and pretty quickly. I will keep your baby in my prayers.
