| Cross your fingers! I bred Mia and Yoshi 2 weeks ago, but I don't know if they officially "tied" or not. I would leave them together for a while and come back to check on them. Yoshi would not stop trying to mount her, but he is so small, so I hope he was able to get up and stay up. I tried to hold him, but I think they were both a little freaked out since it was their first official breeding escapade. I skipped days in between attempts, so we will see what happens. But, I am hopeful. So, keep your fingers crossed! I might be expecting puppies in August!

| Do you know you should never leave a breeding pair alone?? The male could get seriously injured. |

| When I bred my dog (the male is 3 lbs and she is 7), the sire's owner had to hold him up on her (it was hilarious). We couldn't leave them alone because my dog would have drug him all over the place. This of course could have caused the male serious problems, which is why breedings should be supervised. This is a great site to get lots of information on breeding and all the things you will need to be prepared to deal with. Good luck! |

| I supervise my dogs' breedings, I hold the bitch still, pull back her hair (britches) with my hand and will help the dog mount in the appropriate place (I have one who swears he can breed a bitch sideways lol). For a boy that is smaller, instead of holding him on to penetrate I use a stack of rubber mats with carpet over it, a step up stool of sorts. Then during the tie I encourage the bitch to lay down so the dog can have his feet on the ground. I'd never leave dogs alone to breed, I can see a dog getting hurt in a way that is not conducive to him wanting to breed in the future. And when I breed a litter it is not for the fun of it, it is because I have a specific plan/desire for that particular genetic pairing, and so I want to make sure the deed is done so to speak. |

| Couple of ways he can be hurt. A dog's penis actually has a bone in it-- it is not the same as a human penis. It is also an organ that is generally kept with in the pupice which protects it, again quite a bit different than the human version which is a little, for lack of a better word, less vulnerable. When dogs mate and there is a tie, the bitch does not necessarily want to be still. She may move or even try to run off, which depending on the position of the male, can be painful to him or, less likely, actually cause damage to the penis. Also many bitches get snippy both during courtship, penetration, and for my girls, at the moment of the tie when the penis becomes engorged and which can be surprising or slightly painful. I know I have been bit by a bitch I was holding-- but better me than the dog! I don't want the boys being snapped at both because I don't want them being bit and for psychological reasons, my boy is not used very often and he is somewhat timid when it comes to breeding, I don't need a bitch going after him during a breeding session. |

| a male can be seriously injured if the female gets scared when they have tied and starts toi drag him around. He cannot get loose until she releases him. a bigger female can seriously injure a small male who is being drug around by his penis.. (just ask any guy how much that would hurt)

| The male has a gland at the root of the penis that becomes engorged with blood. The females muscles are too tight to allow for the glans bulbus to exit the vaginal once it is engorged. This is what causes the tie. The female doesn't control the tie. When the glans bulbus goes down the male can withdraw and not before than. Meanwhile he is vulnerable and needs to be protected.

| I guess that makes sense because I knew of the way it worked. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking some other major medical issue/condition. Thanks!
