I supervise my dogs' breedings, I hold the bitch still, pull back her hair (britches) with my hand and will help the dog mount in the appropriate place (I have one who swears he can breed a bitch sideways lol). For a boy that is smaller, instead of holding him on to penetrate I use a stack of rubber mats with carpet over it, a step up stool of sorts. Then during the tie I encourage the bitch to lay down so the dog can have his feet on the ground.
I'd never leave dogs alone to breed, I can see a dog getting hurt in a way that is not conducive to him wanting to breed in the future. And when I breed a litter it is not for the fun of it, it is because I have a specific plan/desire for that particular genetic pairing, and so I want to make sure the deed is done so to speak. |
