Puppy not moving hind legs ??

I'm so glad to hear of this improvement. Sorry that the first vet didn't even give your pup the time of day...some people! Anyways, I'm just thrilled for you and the pup, and I can't wait for more updates!

Glad things are going better! My cousin bred Chocolate labs, and in one litter, there was a pup born with 3 legs, and the 4th looked like a chicken wing. Not feathered or anything , just that shape. It was one tiny crinkled up leg. They named her Peggy And an old lady took her and she is just fine now. Dogs can do great even if they only have 3 legs to work with.

It sounds like she just has weak hind leg muscles. Take her out on the grass so she can get good traction several times a day until she strengthens her muscles. The front legs usually have more muscle starting out, from nursing. Sometimes carpet is even to slick, until she gets those muscles built up. It will only take a few days.

This thread is 3 years old. The OP was talking about week old pups, so taking them outside is not a good idea. No pup should be allowed out until it's been vaccinated.

I had one little puppy born like that. He looked like a little frog. He would pull with his front legs. And he would always be under all the other pups when nursing. I thought they were crushing him. I took him to the vet and she found nothing wrong at that time - she xrayed and his little joints were there and hip in place--he was just not using his back legs.
She suggested that I do exercises with his back legs 3 or 4 times a day- like bicycle pumping, moving his back legs. When the rest of the pups started crawling and standing, I would stand him on his feet and encourage him to stand. I would try and separate him from the others at times because he was always on the bottom. Then realized they were not doing that --he was crawling and digging under them.
Anyway it took him a long time-- almost 8 weeks to really start using his legs, at first the were wobbly and weaker but he ended up using them and became very strong in his legs. You could not tell he had had any problem at all by the time he was 12 weeks old.
I sold him to a loving home as a pet.

OMG now I am worried I have a runt now That has stolen my heart with her personality. She is 4 weeks and weighs 7.4 ozs while the other puppys are 15 ozs. She seems behind in development her eyes are turnns a little , and her back legs are weaker then front but she gets around good and fast . she tries to use back legs but gets tripped up with them. I am supplimenting her feedings cause the bigger ones push her off. she seems normal and not in pain , even goes to the pee pad to do her poo and pee . Has anyone has the eyes turned at this age? and it fix itself.I got a vet visit next week but experience in having this problem is also a good way of getting advice. Thanks all

I am so sorry for you and the precious pup. I hate to take away life at any stage unless absolutely necessary. I am so glad that you didn't take the easy way out. Get another opinion like everyone has suggested. Even is she needs a little back-end carrier on wheels I am sure there are people that would love to have her.

Hi, welcome to Yorkie Talk. You might want to start a new thread for your little girls problem. It is hard to say if she has a problem without seeing her. Personally I would be very concerned about her size. Have you had a vet look at her? Does her head seem normal. Sometimes puppies get hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and it effects their eyes and also their ability to move properly. Just to be safe I recommend you have a vet check her. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Time will tell...truthfully, I do not like the eye description...and agree with this post...best wishes...
