Puppy not moving hind legs ?? I have four week old puppies. One little girl, the last one born is not using her hind legs. At first today I thought they were paralyzed. But I held her up and she moved them. They are spread apart and wobbly. She moves the front two but then kinda drags the back ones behind her. Does this sound serious? There is no hip dysplasia in either mom or dads line. |
i would take her to a vet tomorrow! are her legs cold compared to her body? |

Just got home from the vet. The vet thinks I should put her to sleep. I just couldn't do it today. I wasn't prepared for this. I'm so sad. |
I am so sorry but glad to were able to make it to the vet. I don't think I could ever breed with all it's heartaches. Hugs and Prayers coming your way. Joan |

There was a story about what sounds like the samething one night on Animal Planet one of the Animal rescue shows. They found a pup in a litter which appeared to have the samething. Only all four legs were spread out! I cried. They brought her in and vet checked her and she was born that way , however, they did therapy, don't know how long but in the end she went to a forever home and was fine after the therapy. Good luck and I pray this works for you. I would get a second opinion. Not all vet's are intuned to things like this. |
Thank you for the kind words and thoughts. I need them right now. I feel in my heart I need to get a second opinion. The vet didn't even see her walk. The pup was so scared (from being away from littermates etc.) that she just stayed in one place and shook. The vet said she was born with this and that from feeling the legs the back ones didn't seem to be right. She probably can't overcome this and won't have a good life if left to live like this. Maybe something in the spine that isn't just right or may not ever know exactly. I'm going to give it a few days. She doesn't seem to be in pain. It just pains me to think of what I may have to end up doing. The vet said she's sure it won't get better with time. :cry: |

DON'T listen to the vet. With my first yorkie litter ever the runt had all four legs spread out and didn't crawl or walk. The vet I have said the mussels were not fully developed and to help the puppy work them. Xrays showed nothing else wrong. The vet assistant had said Oh Dr. Lamp had to put a puppy down last week with a spine issue. Thank goodness this wasn't the case with this puppy. He was up and walking at just over 5 weeks but was wobbly. He was fine like nothing happened at 6 months. Do the xray to verify it is nothing that can be fixed. If there is no pain then I'm sure someone would want the puppy anyway. |
No, no X-ray was done. She said the X-ray just shows bones and not soft tissue and that the bones were probably okay. It is probably in the muscles or something. I will most likely go to another vet and see what they say. |
Hi, I'm sorry that you and your baby are going through this. There was one little girl posted under the rescue area that could not use her back legs. The breeder handed her over to rescue. I'm not sure if she was brought in to be put down and the vet called rescue or if the breeder herself turned her in, but she is doing well and although she won't be normal she is in no pain and seems happy. The foster home actually decided to adopt her. I commend you for caring enough about this pup to not just put her down. That would be the answer for some breeders as that is cost effective. I hope it works out for your little one but please take a look at the rescue area and try to find that little girl that was posted there. There were tons of posts under it. I'll try to find the link for you or maybe someone here has it. Best of luck Elaine |
