I'm not saying that her dog will need a c-section, but I don't think her vet will know during the actual birthing process if something happens to go wrong and it will need an EMERGENCY c-section. But when it comes to an oops litter, most people aren't prepared. Not only are we talking about her bitches life here, but her pups as well. You have to make sure they find good homes. Which is not an easy task. You have to have time for these pups. These pups couldn't of come at a worst timing for me with my oops litter. Its best you stay home with the litter the whole first week to insure nothing happens to them. Does the OP have the chance to do this? I know I couldn't, resulting in TWO puppy deaths. I came home after school to a chilled puppy, which could of been prevented had I stayed home. Another time the mom knocked over the water bowl over the pups. One became too chilled and didn't make it. Had I been there, this wouldn't of happened. I hope the OP could be there for that first crucial week of the pups lives or find someone who can to prevent death. Puppies could be smothered by the mother if not closely watched. Chilling is another big thing in litters. I wish someone WARNED ME about this, otherwise let it not be heard of to me and having it happen to me. Last edited by Candy317; 05-28-2008 at 08:20 PM. | |

Hon, I am not jumping down your throat.. It's just that the way you posted that, it just seemed to be trying to scare her. I am glad you explained. I just don't want to scare her into anything. It is just the way I read it. You have some really good points.

Yorkie Yakker | Males can breed at 8 months of age according to AKC. If your female is 7 lbs she should be fine, but I would work closely with your vet and take his suggestions. Mistakes do happen and most the time they are fixable. Lets just hope your male is to young to be potent and the next time you will be more experienced in knowing when she is in season |

| Young Love If your female is that much bigger than your male, she's plenty big enough. When you're pretty sure she's pregnant take her into the vet for a check-up. The male could just be fooling around. He might try to dominate (play) but probably not really mate at that age. My Yorkie was around six to seven months old when I had an older female come into heat, nothing happened. Took him to my daughter's as they wanted Morkies...same result. But six months later when my female came into heat again it was a different story. He was still a little shy about it, but he got the job done...four puppies worth - her largest litter ever. |

| Did you know that you are giving very bad advice? Aborting the puppiies can KILL the mama. Hopefully the OP will post in the breeders section where experienced breeders can help her instead of non breeders giving their opinions. |

| I want to thank everyone for all the advice. 1st of all, I am not a breeder. I don't think you need to be a breeder to have puppies. I am a stay at home mom and will be here at all times if she is pregnant. I do not believe in aborting the puppies unless the vet told me something would definately happen to her. I of course would keep constant contact with my vet and would do everything I have to to make sure everything goes as smooth as possible if she is pregnant. I made a mistake by not knowing she was in heat and I am hoping that the male is not mature enough to even make anything happen. He is only 6 months old. I definately do appreciate everyone giving me the advise. I will post this on the breeders section. |

| Thank you for all the advise! I had to go off line last night, my youngest child was not feeling well. She definately did scare me with all the talk about aborting the puppies (if she is pregnant). I am a stay at home mom and would be around at all times for her if she is pregnant and when she has the pups. I am still hoping that my male is too young to even be able to get her pregnant. He is only 6 months old. I would of course be in constant contact with my vet, and would even pay for him to be here when she did have the puppies. I know everyone is against people letting their dogs breed if they are not breedes, but both of my yorkies are akc registered, and I am not in this for the money, I would be keeping alll my little puppies except for 1 that my best friend wants. Thanks again! |
