Still no babies!!!! I swear she's doing this on purpose just to see me sweat... I think she got her control issues from me...She wants to have them when she says it's time and that's that... Her temp has been low all day at 98.8-99.2... Not that it means anything....But look at these pictures I took.. I was making Kallie a whelping box to put into her xpen so that she can have them in the box and get out when she wants and they cannot get out. Atleast not until they get much larger. I have a heating pad in there on low so I can see how warm it's going to get.....Anyways... As I was making the box I looked over and saw the two of them beside me..My vet said to seperate them when she goes into labor but not before since it stresses her to be away from him..Look at these pictures and tell me how you could seperate these two....Then tell me what you think of the whelping area....

I don't know anything about whelping areas, but I do know two lovebirds when I see them.

Default Awwww

I love the pics of them together ~!
I know how much they love each other.
But you will be surprised how she acts towards him for awhile
after the puppies come.
Then all will be well again after puppies are gone.
The whelping area looks good.
You're ready girl.
Bring on the puppies ~!

He can be in with her.It is not true they don't want them in there. When my girls have babbies they want each other in there. She will let you know if he is not wellcomed.Just only let him be close like on bed or near by.
She will probally wait till you are home,My last girl waited all day at work with me and was not in the house 30 min and went in her room and had her babies. They want you there just like you wanted your mom.

While I whole-heartedly agree that it is important to be careful and watchful having other dogs around a female in labor and with newborn pups, I will also say it depends on the dog. When Lexie had her pups we had Lucky (our neutered yorkie male) and an old mixed cocker breed. They were both hanging around the whelping area (Lexie decided to have her pups in a corner of our family room rather than in her whelping box) and though she let them know to back off if they came to close, she otherwise did not mind them hanging around. I think Lucky was a bit worried about Lexie and chose to keep a watchful eye on her from above as seen in this picture of Lexie resting while waiting for the next pup to arrive.

I see you might have a tiny.. if you do.. make sure you watch and time how long the tiny is suckling.. I had one that would only suckle for a minute and then slept for 4 hours.. we had to tube feed her every two hours night and day for two weeks.. by then she was strong enough that she would go on her own.. the vet did not think she was going to live..
we still have her and she is going to be two in may.. but it was scary even though I had tube fed two babies many years before that..be prepared for this.. ask the questions now.. ask the vet to be prepared to teach you how.. with tube feeding it is very dangerous.. I worry.. but I always make sure they are whining when the tube goes in.. then I know it is in the right place.. if they are not struggling and whining.. the fear is that it went in the windpipe.. I would pull it out and begin again..nerve racking as it is.. I knew how much she was getting in her tummy..I also weighed her each time she was fed and kept the date and time..

that is a good idea to do anyway.. you always know then..there are many people to ask questions to.. I usually do not answer to many..for we all have our own ways of doing things..

good luck and keep us posted...anne
Anne - how much does your tiny one weight now at 2 yrs old?
Allways wondered if they stay tiny or grow to an average size?

This is definitely not true for all dogs. Remi isn't ready for any of the other dogs to visit her puppies. She will grow at them when she comes out to stretch her legs just to let them know how she feels. Teddi who is due on Monday will try to put her front feed on Remi to show dominance and will race to get to the bathroom where Remi's pups are housed. She has nipped at Remi's pups when they were very young before. She would probably kill them if she were allowed to as it is her instict to secure the resources for her own pups. Please let your gal lead you on when she is ready for other dogs to be near her babies. Even in the wild mom's keep their pups apart until they are able to walk.

I strongly agree here. If you allow the babies to be exposed to the other dogs or dog, your definately taking a chance, because it its an "unknown" on how they will act, how the Mom will respond ect. I never felt like there was any reason for taking chances. Now, when they are bigger and our mark is 3 weeks after we have observed them all together, they are allowed supervised visits, then we will let them stay in the same room during the day...I always pay closer attention to others verses our stud...he's usually not very impressed by them at first, lol

I can not express how strongly I agree here.
I'm not saying they cant stay together...
But boy are you taking a chance.
My girls wont even let other girls around their puppies
and I know I've read right on Yorkie Talk of people coming home and finding dead puppies from this.
One being a little singleton not to long ago, after fighting to keep it alive.
Its just not worth the chance.
They can be loving later
