| ![]() I am going crazy!!! Now that everything is perfect and ready there is nothing to do but wait.. I sure hope she has them SOON!!! She is laying in my lap right now.. She has been really sleepy today... Earlier when I took a shower, I came in the living room and Stewie was asleep in her xpen and Kallie was laying her big fat butt right on top of him.. I don't see how he was breathing..Heck my leg is already asleep... I do not plan on letting Stewie near the pups for several weeks.. I will keep him out of the xpen and the puppies in. I just checked it a few minutes ago and the heating pad is perfect.. I cannot wait until they come.. I printed off some info to have handy but can anyone tell me what I will most likely need.. I have a towel for cleaning the babies up and a scale and milk with a dropper and scissors to cut the cord if I need to...what else am I missing? When do you bathe the puppies for the first time... |

Is bulb syringe or snot sucker as someone said.... ![]() Without this a puppy can die in minutes ...and theres no time to go get one. Always do the mouth first...then the nose I dont know what others think..but this has saved several puppies for me Without it I wouldnt have even needed the other things.

| ![]() I have learned so much from reading this thread. You all have been so generous with your knowledge and experience. Good luck Amanda. I'll be watching this thread and waiting for the babies to arrive!

| ![]() If you've never seen a mother severing a cord before, you may be shocked. They are quite rough with them. However, it seems as though all the bobbing around gets the pup stimulated and active. IF you have to help with the sac, you NEVER start from the bottom....ALWAYS start from the head or you will force the fluids to gush toward the face. IF you have to help with the cord, NEVER just cut. You need to learn where to have it pinched and then you do more of a sawing action. Have you been reading a lot of whelping info on line? I think one of THE most important things to know is the "shake down". If you have a pup that is definitely in need of help to get breathing due to too much fluid remaining, never hold it with its head toward the ceiling. Also, in my opinion, mouth to mouth is a last resort and remember that you only use air from your mouth, not your lungs. There are things to do that may sound too gross to mention on here. I will tell you this....everything could go just fine and you may not have to step in at all. |

Yes, definately the bulb syringe is most important, cord clamp, scissors, towels, blankets,scales...water for Mom to drink...after pup is born, make sure immediately that the sac comes off...if mom is not real agressive about chewing it off quickly, don't hesitate, take it off and suction the mouth out 2-3 time... I'm such a hands on person (from labor and del. nursing of skin babies) I always want to jump in there and do it all, like cutting the cord, drying the pup off and then putting it right on a teet, Watch the Mom to make sure she doesn't obsess about chewing that cord down too short..some of them do and they (pup) can bleed out....I hope this doesn't scare you too much...kinda alot to remember I know...your going to do fine!

| ![]() This is when you start having sleepless nights. Check on her every hour throughout the night. You know that is when the most puppies are born. Wishing you the best of luck for a happy, healthy whelping.

| ![]() Nothing yet!!! Her temp has been staying down at 98 so I don't know what the heck that means.. She wants to be in my lap or wherever I am at all times.. She slept half the night with me last night and I was afraid of her faling off the bed so I put her in her box beside the bed.. She has been OBSESSIVELY cleaning her FEET!!!! I'm not sure that she understands that they will not be coming from there but then again she is my dog so she has probably lost her mind as well. She acts like a cat with all of her cleaning but she is not cleaning her tootie very much...She is still pretty active today...I am MISERABLE....and Julz I hope you are really ok with me calling you if she goes into labor even if it is just to have you comfort me...What time is it now where you live?? There is a big storm coming in about an hour or so....Maybe I'll get lucky.. There's nothing like having new pups to care for on a rainy day...I guess. I've never cared for new pups before...What am I rambling about.. Well I will update if any changes... |

| ![]() You'll need to have a heating pad also. One that doesn't turn off automatically. You need to put in under the box to keep puppies warm. If they lose their heat, which right now they'll not be able to sustain on their own, they'll die. Be sure it's not too hot for them. They'll spread apart if it is. |

| ![]() I'm still here in the waiting room. Can you believe the vending machine is out of Cheetos? How can you have a birth without Cheetos? Getting tired of the fake coffee here too. But I'm still here. Bizzy Bee sends her excited thoughts your way, and Ruby the pro, says calm down, all will be just fine. The puppies will come when they come. Wishing the best to you in Tennessee.
