3 Attachment(s) Still no babies!!!! I swear she's doing this on purpose just to see me sweat... I think she got her control issues from me...She wants to have them when she says it's time and that's that... Her temp has been low all day at 98.8-99.2... Not that it means anything....But look at these pictures I took.. I was making Kallie a whelping box to put into her xpen so that she can have them in the box and get out when she wants and they cannot get out. Atleast not until they get much larger. I have a heating pad in there on low so I can see how warm it's going to get.....Anyways... As I was making the box I looked over and saw the two of them beside me..My vet said to seperate them when she goes into labor but not before since it stresses her to be away from him..Look at these pictures and tell me how you could seperate these two....Then tell me what you think of the whelping area.... |
I don't know anything about whelping areas, but I do know two lovebirds when I see them.:wub: |
Awwww I love the pics of them together ~! :D I know how much they love each other. But you will be surprised how she acts towards him for awhile after the puppies come. :p Then all will be well again after puppies are gone. The whelping area looks good. You're ready girl. Bring on the puppies ~! |
My 11 mont old is pregant He can be in with her.It is not true they don't want them in there. When my girls have babbies they want each other in there. She will let you know if he is not wellcomed.Just only let him be close like on bed or near by. She will probally wait till you are home,My last girl waited all day at work with me and was not in the house 30 min and went in her room and had her babies. They want you there just like you wanted your mom. |
1 Attachment(s) While I whole-heartedly agree that it is important to be careful and watchful having other dogs around a female in labor and with newborn pups, I will also say it depends on the dog. When Lexie had her pups we had Lucky (our neutered yorkie male) and an old mixed cocker breed. They were both hanging around the whelping area (Lexie decided to have her pups in a corner of our family room rather than in her whelping box) and though she let them know to back off if they came to close, she otherwise did not mind them hanging around. I think Lucky was a bit worried about Lexie and chose to keep a watchful eye on her from above as seen in this picture of Lexie resting while waiting for the next pup to arrive. |

Allways wondered if they stay tiny or grow to an average size? Kim |

I strongly agree here. If you allow the babies to be exposed to the other dogs or dog, your definately taking a chance, because it its an "unknown" on how they will act, how the Mom will respond ect. I never felt like there was any reason for taking chances. Now, when they are bigger and our mark is 3 weeks after we have observed them all together, they are allowed supervised visits, then we will let them stay in the same room during the day...I always pay closer attention to others verses our stud...he's usually not very impressed by them at first, lol |
Can you say true love? Those pictures are just adorable and they seem devoted to each other! |
Good Luck !! |

and your whelping area looks great.. and you have room to be right in there with her... good job...I just use a spare bedroom, but that is great also.. |

I'm not saying they cant stay together... But boy are you taking a chance. My girls wont even let other girls around their puppies and I know I've read right on Yorkie Talk of people coming home and finding dead puppies from this. One being a little singleton not to long ago, after fighting to keep it alive. Its just not worth the chance. They can be loving later |
I am going crazy!!! Now that everything is perfect and ready there is nothing to do but wait.. I sure hope she has them SOON!!! She is laying in my lap right now.. She has been really sleepy today... Earlier when I took a shower, I came in the living room and Stewie was asleep in her xpen and Kallie was laying her big fat butt right on top of him.. I don't see how he was breathing..Heck my leg is already asleep... I do not plan on letting Stewie near the pups for several weeks.. I will keep him out of the xpen and the puppies in. I just checked it a few minutes ago and the heating pad is perfect.. I cannot wait until they come.. I printed off some info to have handy but can anyone tell me what I will most likely need.. I have a towel for cleaning the babies up and a scale and milk with a dropper and scissors to cut the cord if I need to...what else am I missing? When do you bathe the puppies for the first time... |

Is bulb syringe or snot sucker as someone said....:p Without this a puppy can die in minutes ...and theres no time to go get one. Always do the mouth first...then the nose I dont know what others think..but this has saved several puppies for me Without it I wouldnt have even needed the other things. |

I have learned so much from reading this thread. You all have been so generous with your knowledge and experience. Good luck Amanda. I'll be watching this thread and waiting for the babies to arrive! |
If you've never seen a mother severing a cord before, you may be shocked. They are quite rough with them. However, it seems as though all the bobbing around gets the pup stimulated and active. IF you have to help with the sac, you NEVER start from the bottom....ALWAYS start from the head or you will force the fluids to gush toward the face. IF you have to help with the cord, NEVER just cut. You need to learn where to have it pinched and then you do more of a sawing action. Have you been reading a lot of whelping info on line? I think one of THE most important things to know is the "shake down". If you have a pup that is definitely in need of help to get breathing due to too much fluid remaining, never hold it with its head toward the ceiling. Also, in my opinion, mouth to mouth is a last resort and remember that you only use air from your mouth, not your lungs. There are things to do that may sound too gross to mention on here. I will tell you this....everything could go just fine and you may not have to step in at all. |

Yes, definately the bulb syringe is most important, cord clamp, scissors, towels, blankets,scales...water for Mom to drink...after pup is born, make sure immediately that the sac comes off...if mom is not real agressive about chewing it off quickly, don't hesitate, take it off and suction the mouth out 2-3 time... I'm such a hands on person (from labor and del. nursing of skin babies) I always want to jump in there and do it all, like cutting the cord, drying the pup off and then putting it right on a teet, Watch the Mom to make sure she doesn't obsess about chewing that cord down too short..some of them do and they (pup) can bleed out....I hope this doesn't scare you too much...kinda alot to remember I know...your going to do fine! |
This is when you start having sleepless nights. Check on her every hour throughout the night. You know that is when the most puppies are born. Wishing you the best of luck for a happy, healthy whelping. |
 Nothing yet? No news at all? I wonder if she could be busy with puppies????? |
Nothing yet!!! Her temp has been staying down at 98 so I don't know what the heck that means.. She wants to be in my lap or wherever I am at all times.. She slept half the night with me last night and I was afraid of her faling off the bed so I put her in her box beside the bed.. She has been OBSESSIVELY cleaning her FEET!!!! I'm not sure that she understands that they will not be coming from there but then again she is my dog so she has probably lost her mind as well. She acts like a cat with all of her cleaning but she is not cleaning her tootie very much...She is still pretty active today...I am MISERABLE....and Julz I hope you are really ok with me calling you if she goes into labor even if it is just to have you comfort me...What time is it now where you live?? There is a big storm coming in about an hour or so....Maybe I'll get lucky.. There's nothing like having new pups to care for on a rainy day...I guess. I've never cared for new pups before...What am I rambling about.. Well I will update if any changes... |
glad to hear she is doing ok so far...these things take their own precious time...the wind here is really getting bad....and my animals are all acting the way they do before a big storm....do you have verizon wireless??? |

You'll need to have a heating pad also. One that doesn't turn off automatically. You need to put in under the box to keep puppies warm. If they lose their heat, which right now they'll not be able to sustain on their own, they'll die. Be sure it's not too hot for them. They'll spread apart if it is. |

Whenever I see your user id..pop up on this thread...I run in to check puppy status. |
I'm still here in the waiting room. Can you believe the vending machine is out of Cheetos? How can you have a birth without Cheetos? Getting tired of the fake coffee here too. But I'm still here. Bizzy Bee sends her excited thoughts your way, and Ruby the pro, says calm down, all will be just fine. The puppies will come when they come. Wishing the best to you in Tennessee. |
