If you've never seen a mother severing a cord before, you may be shocked. They are quite rough with them. However, it seems as though all the bobbing around gets the pup stimulated and active. IF you have to help with the sac, you NEVER start from the bottom....ALWAYS start from the head or you will force the fluids to gush toward the face. IF you have to help with the cord, NEVER just cut. You need to learn where to have it pinched and then you do more of a sawing action. Have you been reading a lot of whelping info on line? I think one of THE most important things to know is the "shake down". If you have a pup that is definitely in need of help to get breathing due to too much fluid remaining, never hold it with its head toward the ceiling. Also, in my opinion, mouth to mouth is a last resort and remember that you only use air from your mouth, not your lungs. There are things to do that may sound too gross to mention on here. I will tell you this....everything could go just fine and you may not have to step in at all.
