First breeding question I have an alpha female who just entered into her 3rd heat cycle at 18 months. We have planned a breeding with my male this heat and he is 8 months and 3 days. (just made it) She started spotting Friday night. My mentor says he will show interest when she starts dropiing eggs which may be as early as Monday and may continue on until usually the 11th day. He IS NOT interested in this thing and she growls when he sniffs her. This is BOTH of their firsts. Should I be concerned that this just isn't going to happen this time? She is alpha female. He shows agression and doesn't back down from her but at least she thinks she still rules. I am worried they may not breed. BOTH have no luxation, have had their pedigrees researched for any common problems with the known lines, bile acid tests were fine, and both UTD on shots. Female was confirmed at the GA show in June by an AKC judge and a handler. Topline perfect, eye rims dark, snout not too long/too short, silky correctly colored coat, eyes a little wide set but great topknot corrects that (that's what she said) My male is standard and fixes her wide set ears. (no they are not like buck wheat ears just wider than some)Anything else I could've done other than showing?

breeding The male is quite young, he may breed, he may not..she may accept him, she may not..if you want her bred, go to an experinced stud...that will be you best chance for a litter...or wait it out and hope they accept each other.

| It will probably be hard to breed them, due to two things: 1. He is a bit young. I always waited until they were over 1 year. 2. She is the alpha female, you said, and this is her house. It is best to take her to breed to someone else house. She will not be as agressive then. I would look for an experienced male and take her to meet him for the match. Yorkie Rose is right. Good Luck! | I think he is too young . If she is an Alpha girl , it must be better to use a male from another breeder . |

This is what my mentor recommended. But I wanted to give him a chance. He has not bred to her. I guess she needs an agressive male anyhow. AT least for this first time. Then she will be more willing once she has been bred. =( I was hoping for some light puppies and I had the 2 of them paired up perfectly. =( I will probably lose this cycle because I am not just gonna stud to any male. She isn't picky but I am poicky for her. I want to keep a female from a studding. Wish me luck. If we can find a stud in time, this will be one beautiful litter. =)

breeding Want a laugh...? I had a champion who was gorgeous silk, good structure, everything I loved...so I buy a nice female, champion-sired, great coat like my male, pretty head also. Violet was 8 months when I got her..I had to wait a year..one entire year of planning this pefect litter..and the pups come. I got 3 puppies. Three of the worst quality I had bred in a number of years. They were long like Skye Terriers..and where did all the blue and gold go? There faces/legs were white..and light silver backs. I was at a well known show breeders home a few years ago...two oversized, flop earred pups were playing the backyard...they were a combo of two champion parents of exceptional quality...the breeder waited two years for that litter...I sure learned alot that day and didn't feel so bad about my "Skye Terriers". lol

Oh Pat. Don't scare me. I have been so excited at the thought of this pairs offspring. Even getting dates set for training next April for the pups I keep that may be :::fingers crossed::: show quality. This would devistate me. That's is weird though how they can throw something that doesn't resemble their mom and dad. Their first 4 generations from what we can tell are similar colors, coats, topline....yada yada. But my metor said that it can go back to the 10th generation and pull some from any usually not beyond the 10th though. =( I wish I owned all 10 generations so I'd know (or at least think I know) exaclty what to expect. I love the fact that they are all different BUT suprises can ruin a dream of producing a champion. The ones I don't feel will make it will be sold as pets and companions but I'd relish the fact that I may produce a CH. Wish me luck. If not this time maybe next time, probably with an outside stud. =)------ Pat, I found a gal with a 3 pound full of yorkboro, and many others. She is charging $400 for the stud. I think that's a little cheap??? My mentor is out of town until at least Tuesday so I can't ask her............I have been through all the normal questions and plan to visit tommorrow to see her home and facilities. I have sent her pictures of my female and she was flabbergasted that she isn't from CH. parents. WOW I am thinking but anyhow...........Should I question the price? Would I be stupid to ask why she doesn't charge more? LOL...

stud Go have a look at him..some people do not cahrge that much for a stud. In MD even the show breeders rarely went over $500. I am sure you will get a great litter...I seem to get my best pups when I think I won't. LOL
