How to find a female for my male to breed? I have this 9 month old Male yorkie who is not fixed and I would love to use him as a stud. I would like to know how i go about advertising him, and What i need to do before using him. I also would like to say he does weigh about 8 pounds.

i am going to say this as gently as I can. An eight pound male should not be bred. it would be very hard to find a female that the owners would let breed to him.

Eight pounds is very large for a breeding male and he is not full grown yet. He will probabley top out around 10 lbs +/-. I dont know of many people willing to risk their females lives breeding to such a large male. I would have him neutered, research the breed more and if you are looking for an excellent breeding male, I would buy another from a reputable YTCA member. Of course, they have stipulations/contracts on these dogs as well.

See that is what I have been told a lot, but the breeder that I bough him from say that he wont get any bigger, and my mother has a female that weighs 8 pounds, is that too little for him to breed. Ok so say if he is to big, what should i do then?

First, he is bigger than the standard. Its OK, because my guy is too. But really, its best if standard yorkies are the only ones being bred. and also, it could really hurt a female (who should be bigger than the male) if she is carrying a large male's babies, because the babies may get too big for her, which will make it dangerous for her. My suggestion is to have him neutered and enjoy him as your loving pet-only companion. If you're really serious about breeding (which is great if you are!!) then I suggest that you stick around this site. Check out the breeders forum, read everything that you can (books, this forum, etc), find a professional in your area to mentor you, and invest in a show-quality stud. There is a lot to do to prepare before you should breed. Its great that you came on and asked first though, because some people would have just done it and put the female and babies' lives in danger. So good luck to you! and welcome to YT!

| He is bigger than the standard - not to exceed 7 pounds. I would just have him neutered and if you want to breed get another yorkie that is to standard. Also have the one you will breed tested and evaluated to see if he is worthy of passing on his genes. Then be sure that what you breed him to is of standard. What size yorkies to you want to produce?? I prefer yorkies around 5 pounds or at least within the standard size. This one you have may have larger size behind him to, if not the parents maybe the grandparents. So he may even produce even larger size yorkies and with your mom's yorkie larger - you may have some really big yorkies. There is no guarantee with breeding, reason why we try to breed to standard. | I had Tiffanie who is a Yorkie and her weight before breeding was around 10 lbs. our male Teddy (Yorkie) was 6 lbs. and she threw out one 8 to 9 lb. baby in each litter, I would have him neutered due to the risk of them both being larger Yorkies and maybe throwing out U're larger Yorkies that wouldn't be AKC Standard Yorkies weight, we had Tiffanie spayed due to her throwing out her larger babies. Hope this helps U. |
