No one is trying to be mean by asking questions...we can't properly answer yours without knowing some more info about the dog. It IS frustrating when somebody has a pregnant dog and comes here asking for help because they haven't done any research at all. It's almost insulting to those who breed and have gone about it the RIGHT way...lots of learning BEFORE jumping into something. This isn't just a hobby or a new fad...these are little lives you're talking about.

I'm sorry this is so long!!! I'm not tryin to be mean, my gosh I've been in her shoes!!! And I don't care to admit when I'm in the wrong and I very much was in the wrong when I bred Tiffanie and Teddy I didn't know what the heck I was doing! I didn't even think Tiffanie got pregnant with her 1st litter I was so dumb to this I couldn't even tell!!! Once I realized she MIGHT be I went the week before & got what I thought I needed to help her!!! In 5 weeks time I was up all the time day and night cramming for that exam as Tami said! LOL! And by the Grace of God was able to do it and do it right!!!! I want to thank all of U here who has taken up for me, U know I don't say much on here when people come on asking for help but U know I am NEW to this too and I for 1 have choose to do the RIGHT thing and take time off and LEARN more even tho I've helped whelp 2 litters of Yorkies, U can NEVER know enough when it comes to whelping Yorkies, they are so tiny at birth that sometimes they can't and won't survive without our help!!!! The reason I ask those questions is to give her some things to think about it's not like I was tryin to be a smart U know what. I was letting her know that this is a very very serious thing she's gotten herself into and yes we breeder I think get ourselves into breeding for our dogs don't ask for it to be done as breeders we allow it to happen. And who am I to really give advice right I mean I'm new to this also. I can tell her what I've been through myself and yes it's very aggravating when U find U're self "TRYING" to do the RIGHT thing with our Breed (Me choosing to wait on our next litter to learn more) and here people come on here and ask well what do I do now and yes I was once one of them but if U read my post that I've posted I started trying to learn a little earlier then our due date for our 1st litter. If she wants to learn from what I've been through then go she can go a read my post here I've pasted the links to my questions and she can read the answers others posted back to me, just take the time to read what I went through and maybe U'll understand what I mean about how dumb I was at breeding too!!! I admit I was in the wrong and now I'm still trying to learn more!!!! I never meant to hurt anyone but the truth is the truth and I am a very truthful person, just ask my older girls lol.

I'm not trying to bump this up, I'm just trying to let her know what I went through! This is how dumb I was with our 1st litter!!! 04-27-2006 Well Tiffy went into heat on Feb 24th and blead the 1st week so I didn't put her and Teddy together until the 3rd of March (She is 1 & 1/2 this month & this is her 2nd heat and Teddy will be 1 & 1/2 in June) well I thought Teddy could get to her well he couldn't...I took a old phone book and wrapped it up and put it in their big cage and that I didn't think worked, so I put a small chair in there she climbed in it and sat down...So I just let them be...I kept them together from March the 3rd to March the 19th to see if anything would happen, he tried and tried and she let him...Well I myself thought well he didn't get her pregnant, I ask others and they said unless they got stuck then he didn't get her pregnant...My Dad said NO that isn't always true (He breads reg. Beagles and he said sometimes U don't even know if they do mate.) Well now it's been what 8 weeks tomorrow since the 3rd of Feb (Going by Fridays) and I now think she is pregnant...She is getting bigger in the belly, her nipples are bigger some and she is just not the same dog...So meek and mellow, minds so well, acts as tho she has been beat when U speak her name (She NEVER acted this way before I mated them and I don't like how she acts now like she is so scared of us), she's not having ANY potty accidents in the house now, she goes to her cage (We have a 2 caring cages for each of them, we leave the doors open on them if they want to go in & lay down they do, we also have a puppy bed out for them too) and lays there during the day and she NEVER did that before (Do U think she might go into her cage & have them since she is going in there all the time?) ...She is with ME all the time. Teddy was the one who was ALWAYS on my lap, she was the one who was on my husbands lap ALWAYS...But now she acts like she wants me all the time...I fell her belly and it feels as tho there are puppies kicking...U can't see it really for her hair but U can feel it...I went ahead and gave her a hair cut since I think she might have puppies and it will be getting hot here soon (We live in Indiana) How do I know she is pregnant without taking her to the Vet? I think she will be due if she is anywhere from May the 5th to May 19th...I just read where the lady has that whelping site for the other dogs...I went and read all of it and about how to take her temp. I'm gonna do that in the morning. I've helped 1 dog in my lifetime deliver pups...I'm getting nervous now and scared...That's sounds so strange here I am a Mother of 4 beautiful daughters and a beautiful granddaughter (Which I attended her birth!! and did very well) how will I know she is in labor? How will I know what to do? Please help me...We're suppose to have a yard sale the 5th & 6th of May but I told my daughter (She thinks I'm nuts for wanting to wait!!!) I think we should put it off until the 1st of June incase Tiffy has pups...If Tiffy goes into labor on me say before I get Kayleigh to baby-sit should I tell Val (Kayleigh's Mom) to stay home from work...So I can help Tiffy and not have a newborn and her to deal with @ the same time? What if Tiffy goes into labor on me while Val's @ work do I call her home from work so she can get Kayleigh and I can help Tiffy? Do this sound nuts? I just love my baby pups and want the best for them... Then there's Teddy he is so jealous and CAN'T STAND me to spend much time with Tiffy. Do I put him up in his cage until she has her pups? He I know won't leave her alone while she is having them...What do I need to help Tiffy deliver her babies??? I mean I need to know it all please know this is my 1st YORKEE BIRTH!!! HELP please!!!!!! I know I can get Great and Good advise here from U all. I'm sorry this is so long but I needed to explain it all to U. Oh and PLEASE PRAY for us!!!!!!!! I need ALL the help I can get!!!!! Thanks and Many Hugs, Lee http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39958 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40779 05-05-2006 Hello I started writing this on Thursday but haven’t had a chance to finish it, well U know how it is when U’re a new Grandmother to babies!! Especially when those babies live with U!! LOL! Oh my goodness, my babies are here!!!!!!!! I've been so so excited...I knew they would get here today 5/4/06...Yesterday I said Friday and then Justin (My Husband) Said Sunday. Her temp yesterday Am & Pm was 99.7 and then this morning we got up and Tiffy sleeps with us and I said she is panting, he said "It's hot in here" I said NO it's not, I bet she's gonna have babies today... And I took her out and she was fine so around 8:36 am took her temp it was 98.4, I thought well lets see what happens, so around 10 I took her back out and she peed twice within say 5 minutes, I thought yeah I bet she is gonna go...Well she got in her whelping box and Teddy tried to get in there and man I thought she was gonna eat him up...(She hasn't gotten in there for a long time, been sleeping with us) so then I had a gut feeling they we're gonna come, well I got her a bath and I thought no granddaughter today (Her mommy was off work) girls @ school, I better try to nap a little it might be a long night...Well I laid down with a blanket on the couch and Teddy jumped up there with me, then he jumped back down, he does this a lot and then scratches @ the couch for us to pick him back up, well he was scratching and I told him no U jumped down U jump back up. Well here I thought Teddy had jumped up at my feet (I was just dozing by then) and he kept moving and moving, I said Teddy will U lay still…(I was laying on my belly) and then I felt what I thought was him get right in-between my legs and start pawing, I woke up for sure then and I thought what in the world surly not!!!! Well guess who it was? Yeah ol’ Tiffy, she was layin’ right between my legs, I jumped up, trying not to knock her off and sure enough there was her 1st baby sticking out and then her water broke, I got her up and moved her to the whelping box which was right there in our living room in the corner. She yelped about the time I got her in the box and out the baby come! I was scared to death I ran outside and hollered @ my oldest daughter: “The puppies are here, the puppies are here”, she came running, we thought we’d have to help and then here she did it all beautifully by herself! Well #2 came and was born but wasn’t breathing good so I cleaned out it’s mouth and then it’s nose and started rubbin’ and here it came around, then # 3. Came it was all fine and then # 4, it took her longer to cut the cord and we got ready to cut it and I was raising her leg for it and she got down there and finished it!! I think she was to tired to hold her leg up! Below is babies and weights and times!! I’m so very proud of her, us and our new babies…I wouldn’t trade all this for nothing in this world it’s a experience I’ll never forget!!! Here is their 1st photos, I have them marked with terry cloth pony tail holders, I don’t know how else to do it, I know if I was to paint a toe nail of one of them she’d try to bite it off any thoughts here? Oh and yes I got tons of questions!! Hugs, Lee and Teddy’s Mommy and now New Grandmother to 4 beautiful babies!!!!!!! #1. Time born: 2:47 pm~ Boy~ 4.8 ozs. #2. Time born: 3:32 pm~ Boy~ 5.8 ozs #3. Time born: 4:44 pm~ Girl~ 5.0 ozs This is the link to our 2nd litter and what I learned with it so please go read it & I truely hope U find all the help U need here and U're gonna need it trust me, U may think U're ready before but when she comes to whelping U're gonna think twice and be scared to death! I was! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81757 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83966

I have been doing research on this for two years. I have four yorkies already. I am just a little nervous for it is going to be my first time. I am also going to be having another yorkie breeder with me when she whelps just to make sure nothing bad happens to the pups or mom. I was just trying to get some last minute help to make sure I was covering all the basics.

Take the advise by LadyHawk (Tami). A forum is not the place to get you only source of education for breeding. There will be tons of mixed opinions, newbies telling you what to do and the fact is we're all human and can be wrong. One must know for themselves the information.

I know nothing about whelping but my baby is spayed for that very reason. I really wish her the very best. Seems irresponsible to me.

I won't try to offer any advice other than some practical things based on what I've been through. First off, you must be home 24/7 as whelping time approaches. They can be a few days early or late; also you may be off in your counting days a bit. Also, can you really count on the Yorkie breeder you know to be available at a moment's notice; even in the middle of the night? These babies have a habit of picking the most inconvenient time to whelp. They go on their schedule, not ours. I've never had a litter yet where the mother didn't need some help with the bags and cords, especially on the first one or two pups of the litter. They're sometimes just too big to be able to reach around and do what needs to be done. The heating pad and bulb suction are essential to have at the ready. For me personally, I've never had much luck with whelping boxes so now I place an old comforter in the corner, put the heating pad on that and then cover that with some towels. The mother uses the corner to help push. I change the towels as needed during the process and place the newborns aside on a heating pad (covered with a towel) while she is actually delivering the next one then return them to the mother when she is done with the birthing of that one. For me the whelping box just gets in my way. The room I use is a dedicated nursery and is away from the 'noisy' part of the house. Luckily, I've never had any complications so I can't speak from experience about other issues. Hope this helps and good luck with everything.

did I read her web-site correctly? She has already had puppies before. So why is this her first time? And if this is her first time, it didnt take her long to get into the Yorkie breeding business as she has 3 litters due within the next month.
