I just spoke with a lady from the rescue who said Gus had his surgery today and the he came through it OK

She added that it will be a few days before he's completely out of the woods and that they did some sort of test to see if it's the kind of shunt that can be remedied. Apparently there are two different kinds? Anyway, she's the lady that transported him on Sunday and she reports that he's a little love bug full of kisses!

Keep praying for Baby Gus to make a full recovery.

Default Baby Gus Update

This is what is on Baby Gus' site:
3/5/08

ALL IS OK! Thank God!

The surgery went well, he is on track and they are quite pleased. The next few days are critical and he needs to be watched closely. They will call me again in a few hours, I made him swear. He also stated due to the fact that he was asymptomatic upon arrival there he has an excellent chance of a full recovery. They also did a liver biopsy and it will be a few days before we know anything with that as to weather or not he has MVD.

GAWD I am in tears and shaking all over. Please keep him in your prayers.

Gus is still doing well. He is awake, alert and ate a little. He will have another ultrasound in the morning to assure all is working properly. Kudos to his student caregiver who has promised to keep him warm, comfy and give him kisses from all of us!

Thank you to all of our generous supporters and for all the emails and prayers for our little Gus!

YEAH! Gus's ultrasound was perfect! Everything is operating properly and per the student caregiver, the surgery appears to have been a complete success. Thank God! His appetite is good, he is urinating, taking his meds and lactulose just fine and may even get to be discharged tomorrow, Saturday at the latest as long as he stays on this good course! Baby Gus!!!!

Oh Dear God - those poor little dogs - I HATE that people breed indiscrimately and just do it for the FAST MONEY ! There should be more regulations but I'm sad to say - there probably won't ever be.....too bad some of these people don't have MANDATORY SPAY NEUTER per offense -

What I mean is - 1f a dog is born with a KNOWN genetic problem that should be considered offense #1 - if ANOTHER is diagnosed - OFFENSE #2 - The 3rd would be 3 strikes and YOU'RE OUT !!! .... then they should be forced to spay/neuter - (Do I sound like a little Hitler here ? I hope not but there are NO consequences for these people !)

it's just sickening the way some people breed and sell - it really is

Yes it is. And if there was stiffer laws out in this world there wouldn't be so many babies sufferin' right now and homeless!!! I'm just so glad he's getting what he needs and he's so loved & wanted now!! Hugs

I just finished reading this thread and just when you think you're cried dry ... you aren't! I totally agree with Villette ... but changes & new laws will come too late for some. I just made a donation in memory of a rescue that we lost just about a month ago. His owner surrendered a sweet, sweet little 3 yr. old boy named Romeo. He said he was having to crate him 12+ hrs. a day due to his job and he had begun to pee in his crate. He said he was healthy and when we had him vet checked he did indeed "appear" to be healthy. Several people wanted to adopt him right away ... we are so thankful that we stuck to our policy ... they have to stay in foster for a minimum of two weeks. We have to know that we have learned every single thing about a rescue before we adopt it out. We want to make sure there aren't underlying health issues, behavior issues, etc. Thank God for our policy! A few days after Romeo began stealing hearts, he also began behavior that at first appeared to be electrocution ... no way that had happened. They were seziures and after several trips to the ER but before we could help him, he began seizing and they couldn't be stopped! It seems he was in the latter stages of LS and there was nothing we could do except let him go. Evidently the owner was just way too busy to notice the signs early on or perhaps he realized something was wrong and surrendered him to us .... either way, it was too late for sweet little Romeo, but it's certainly not too late for Baby Gus!!

Thank you, Lee, for starting this thread and I want to thank Indiana Petite Paws Rescue for the wonderful work they are doing! Rescue is heartbreaking but successes like Baby Gus keep us trying! God bless you all!

I just can't see people mistreating any dog to me they are like our real life babies/children who NEVER ask to be here or to be mistreated. I feel it is our responsibility to care for them for they are as helpless as a baby, they can't care for themselves, feed, bath or doctor themselves. I just don't understand why people take on such responsibility if they can't live up to it. I mean I know a lot of people out here just don't understand our Yorkie breed and how much it truly take to care for them RIGHT...The proper care of their coats is hard enough let alone the other care they need. I just hope people will realize they are just like a baby/child who is in need of daily true love and care. Baby Gus just stole my heart, there's just something about him and if I was in need of donations to help my Yorkies I would hope someone out there would care enough to help me to help them. I just hope he can live a full loving life that he so deserves.

Gus is doing WONDERFUL. He is taking his meds very well, is eating his prescription food and is acting like a 3.5 month puppy should. He is a sweetheart and so full of kisses. His long incision is healing and he would like nothing more than to play but we need to keep him quiet a bit longer

I checked on Baby Gus at the Shelter website ... he is so adorable! I sent his picture over to Patrick's computer & watched him ... I heard him go "Ahhhhhh"! When I asked him what? ... he was looking at Baby Gus' picture & smiling!! He's a goner!! I very innocently said, "just wanted you to see the baby that we donated to help. I believe he would adopt that little guy in a heartbeat. Big guys are soooo tenderhearted!! We are so happy that Baby Gus is doing so well!

I just noticed this morning they lowered Baby Gus' Donation Goal to: $2500.00 from the $4000.00 Goal. At 8:39 am my time they are almost there with Donations being now at $2265.00. Here is how he is doing and just click on the link below to view photos of his scar and of him, he's a living doll no wonder he's stole my heart!!! Thanks for all U're help in getting him closer to his goal!! Hugs

Gus's scar is healing very well. They used glue instead of staples. Here he is today in all his adorable glory as if nothing ever happened. He still has a long recovery period and will have his BAT retested in about 6 weeks to assure all is working properly.
