| Please READ & Please HELP... I live in Southern Indiana and this is so sad WHY??? WHY??? Do “BACKYARD BREEDERS” do this to babies? Why do they experiment with our Breed? Can’t they understand what may happen if they take such chances??? Why would U risk having Yorkie babies in this shape or worse??? Why breed our Yorkies under 5 lbs. to try to have the small “So Called” Teacups??? What is wrong with the 5 to 7 lb. Yorkie??? I’m so thankful I’m NOT a “BACKYARD BREEDER” or a “PUPPY MILL”!!! I’m so thankful ALL my litters have turned out healthy and all my Yorkies I have now 5 of them are 100% healthy!!! This healthy can only happen if WE as BREEDERS take care of our Yorkies and make it happen!!!! Please read some of the things they had to say about these babies below, and they do make since once U read them. Maybe people will realize just what a “BACKYARD BREEDER” or a “PUPPY MILL” is after reading what they have to say!! I’m sorry I just had to say something after going here to read about these babies and the life of HELL they’ve gone through or going through due to their owners not caring about our YORKIE BREED!!!! Could anyone here help this little man “Baby GUS” he’s in need of treatment and going to Indiana Purdue on Monday, March 3rd and I feel so badly for him, I’m going to send him some money, I just thought maybe if some of us here could send a little (Maybe a cost of a new toy or hair bow for our own Yorkies) to help him, he could be able to have a chance at life like he so deserves, this breaks my heart to see him this way and so much in need of his surgery. They have a meter there at the site and have only raised $600.00 of the $4000.00 they need for his medical needs. Just look how precious he is and how cute!!! He's a living doll!!! Just click on the links below to view these 2 babies and while U're there just go view these babies who's lives has been destroyed by owners and breeders...There are stories to almost all the babies at this site of their past...It's so very sad!!! Hugs, Lee P.S. Maybe put in U're heading if U donate money for Gus' Surgery??? 2/25/08 Baby Gus Little Gus is only 3 months old. This is what happens when amateur owners decide they want to breed their Yorkie without doing the proper research into the pedigrees of the parents. PLEASE leave the breeding to the professionals!!! Gus has a Liver Shunt and sadly, not all Liver Shunts are treatable. He may die before his time. We will be taking Gus to Purdue to see if he can be fixed. Updates will follow. Please help us help him by sending a donation for his medical expenses, they will easily exceed $3000.00. Little Gus is being fostered in NW Indiana. 2/26/08 We were unable to get Gus's records from his breeder's vet so we had to re-run his Bile Acid testing and have confirmed his Liver Shunt. Gus has an appointment on Monday March 3 at the Purdue Small Animal Hospital for an evaluation and possible surgery. Surgery will depend on exactly what type of shunt Gus has and on the outside will run us $4000.00 http://www.petitepaws.org/spotlightbabygus.htm 9/27/06 Meet our little "Thor", he is NOT adoptable at this time. Thor is one of three puppies that was surrendered to us by a back yard breeder. He needs your help! Thor was born without a penis. There is just a little hole that he pees out of and only when stimulated. He also has a slight heart murmur which could be a number of other issues. Thor weighs 1 pound 4 ounces and is around 6 weeks old. We are going to be taking him to Columbus TODAY for a few tests and possibly surgery to fix him so he can pee on his own. Updates to follow as we receive them. 9/28/06 Thor is at Ohio State University in Columbus and having surgery today. They feel he has a very good chance for a successful repair and did not seem real concerned with his heart murmur. They said his penis is there but covered over with skin which they will cut back the skin and stitch up. Please keep this sweet little boy in your thoughts and prayers. PART 2 Thor is out of surgery and all seems to have been successful, he even peed! He took a bottle and is being spoiled rotten by the staff. He is a big hit needless to say. Special thanks to his foster mom and dad who took off work, drove over 100 miles and spent the night in Columbus all to get little Thor the medical attention he needed. We have the most awesome members in this organization! Thor and his two sisters were no more than 4 weeks old when they were turned over to us. Connie and Gary sacrifice so much for this organization and for these rescued babies. God bless them both. 11/14/06 I'm sure glad these rescue angels saved me from the mill. The treatments I've had has saved my life. I can now pee with no problem. I've had a cough since my surgery and I'm on my 4th round of antibiotics. I sure hope this one works as I hate taking medicine. When I see Mom with the bottle I run and hide and fight her the entire time. Mom always wins. At my last visit to OSU I weighed almost 2 lbs. I love to play with all the dogs here. I want to THANK everyone that has sent money so far as I grow I may need more procedures done. If you have an extra few dollars please send it to the angels because if they don't need it for me they sure do some of my friends here that are in need of treatments. My Vet bills so far are $600.00. Sassy my friend had her heart fixed that was big dollars and my new friend Savanna has to have HW treatments. At the dog event we went to I meet Orion and he has something wrong with his liver and there was other dogs there that need a home so bad. Please help if you can. Love, Thor http://www.petitepaws.org/spotlightthor.htm |

| It's so sad that dogs are suffering because of backyard breeders and puppymills It just makes me sick that this country allows breeders to use their dogs as a business and sell sick dogs to people. I just wish more breeders would educate themselves BEFORE they breed...and I wish more breeders were ethical.

| I'm glad you're willing to help but I think you should know that a liver shunt can show up in anyone's dogs...not just a BYB or puppy mill dog. There is no genetic marker for LS so you can't tell who is a carrier and it can show up unexpectedly. Now, if the breeder knows there is LS in their lines and they continue to breed those parents over and over then that's different...shame on them and they should be stopped. I hope this little one is able to be fixed and placed in a loving, forever home. |

| That is so sad it just breaks my heart. Dont know how people can do that! I took our pups in for a check this week to my vet, and he had just put down a small poodle with liver shunt, she was very small and only 9 months old it was so sad.My vet and another clinic thought putting her down was the best option for her? I was suprised that she was so young and that was their best option for her. |

| I hate this! Especially because I'm from Indiana. Trust me, not all people from Indiana are bad pet owners! I promise! I will check out the link. I applied to be a foster Mom for petite paws a while back and dropped the ball when I lost the lady I was talking to, phone number. I really need to get back into the swing of it. Thank You for trying to help these little ones. I'll check out the link and do what I can do.

| Although there isn't a genetic marker for LS at present, there are some very good tests that can be done that are good indicators of carriers. Dr. Center, who is currently working on finding the marker, says that no Yorkie with a bile acid test higher than 15.00 should be used in a breeding program. This would be a good start to weeding some of the carriers out. Hopefully, the genetic marker will be found this year and everyone breeding Yorkies will take advantage of it. Charlie |
