| I paid 750 for Jobey and I thought I got a pretty good deal. The breeder I got him from gave me a gift basket with food, toys, a blanket and all of his shot records and registration papers. I guess it all depends on the person breeding the dogs. I don't think it matters how much money the dogs are as long as they are raised in a loving home and they're healthy. I have had no problems out of Jobey since I got him.

| Prices vary quite a bit... As a buyer, I don't mind paying $1000-$3000 for a yorkie. BUT I will only pay that much for a well-bred dog from a reputable breeder....the breeder must be breeding excellent example of the breed and health screening all of their dogs before breeding. The puppy must be a good example of the breed and healthy. I wouldn't pay $1000 for a puppy from a breeder breeding pet quality dogs though...and I especially wouldn't pay very much if they weren't health screening their dogs and puppies. BYBs that are breeding pet quality dogs and not health testing are only charging thousands because uneducated people will pay it...

| LOL...that's the million dollar question. Everyone has a different opinion of what defines the 'category' that breeders fit into. And I doubt you will ever get a majority agreement regarding a description on this board... |

So far as health screening - here is a thread I started where some breeders talk about what they do http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=114403 I personally want to see these done: Full blood panel to check for health issues Bile Acid Test to check for liver shunt (as well as research far back in the lines to know all dogs are free for liver shunt) Check for Luxating Patellas -can be felt for by a vet, X-rays are better, OFA cleared is best Check hips for Legge Calve Perthes - pretty much same as above for LP eyes and ears checked and cleared to be normal (can be CERFed) Heart checked to make sure it is healthy and normal Knowledge of the pedigrees and offsping for any health problems such as diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, etc. Those are the ones I can think of at the moment that are important to me..there are probably a few more though

| i see you are in kentucky. I am too and I can tell you right now that people here don't give a hoot about your babies being healthy as long as they are cheap. i don't sell mine cheap and most people know it. i have only sold three puppies in our fair state. Most of the people here that contact me, get turned down as unsuitable for one of my babies. i can tell within two minutes of talking to a potential buyer, if i will let that person have my baby or not. Most breeders in kentucky don't even know their own bloodlines or what Liver Shunt and some other things yorkies get are. BUT, if you want to be a reputable breeder, you need to research, you need to test all your adult dogs and you need to know your bloodline backwards and forward. once you have that knowledge, you need to offer a health guarantee when you sell your puppies. you need to set yourself above the rest of these so-called breeders in ky that are just putting two dogs together and letting them tie. When you have puppies to sell, you need to screen your homes and don't just sell to anyone that comes along with money in their hands. once you do all that, you can view yourself as a reputable breeder and even then, others will say your are a backyard breeder so be prepared.. right now, the kentucky papers are full of four hundred dollar dogs. you need to have a better quality dog and puppies than what we normally see here in Ky. i am not fussing at you but speaking from one Kentucky girl to another. we have a different culture than most people on this board but you can raise quality puppies and be a better breeder. If people call me about my puppies and seem surprised by my prices, I tell them the paper is full of cheap, less quality dogs than what I have and by all means look there. if I can help you, please let me know Last edited by Sugar's Mom; 02-24-2008 at 05:53 PM. |

While i don't test my babies bfore they leave, my adults have been tested. My contract on my webpage spells it all out. A contract is only as good as the people making it and you also have to be flexible. Different situations arise that you have to take into consideration. i have never had to refund money or replace a puppy because I have never sold a sick puppy. I also have been known to give those non refundable depositis back on occasion And no, I don't have any trouble at all finding homes for my babies. i have a waiting list usually. sometimes I don't tho. I am expecting a nice litter in March and have a mile long list already but I plan to keep most of this litter. feel free to email me at deeslilyorkies@hotmail.com[/url] and we can talk somemore if you like. i can share with you several sites to advertise your puppies on but you must have quality puppies above all else. | I wouldn't buy a Yorkie for $600 (been there, done that) because my first thought would be that testing hasn't been done on the parents. While that might not be true in your case, it is in most.

heath testing it very important and well as the quality. do you have silk coated parents?? most people like the silk coats the best and they are easier to care for and much prettier IN MY OPINION also what are their weights on the parents as if they are over the standard of 7 lbs then they would go for less. and the colors also play a part most poeple want the standard of blue and gold I personally like the black and gold best but it is not the standard. bottom line if you are not a show breeder I think your prices are fair why buy from a regular breeder for a 1000 and up when you can get much better for those prices from the best of the best.
