There are YT members that do this and it bugs me so much. Why isnt the big dog deserving of coming inside? I have big and little and my shepherd is completly inside too. Whats the point of even having the dog if your not going to keep them inside? |
I know of many respectable breeders on yorkietalk that do. For reasons of sanitary conditions for each, human and dogs and others I'm sure. Some of them live in much nicer, spacier (if that's a word lol)accomodations with heat, airconditioner and lots of play yard. than if they were put in seperate place. These breeders have more than 1 litter per year, but that doesn't make them BYBer's or puppymillers. I have mine inside but nevertheless I'm not ready to sit in judgment just yet. It's easy to do when only looking at it from a companion or a very small breeder only perspective. |
Now your talkin!!! :bravo: :mademyday You're going to love having them as a part of your family, and I think you know they deserve to be. I'm so glad you reconsidered!!! |

I am not a breeder, have never bred a dog in my life and will never breed a dog. But I hope you will take into consideration the great advise from the breeders on here. Many are speaking from years of experience. I have seen case after case on this forum of badly bred (not saying that yours are) Yorkies who have years of expensive medical treatments, surgeries and medications. Many have mentioned that their babies lived a painful horrible life and died a devestating early death. I know that you are trying to get information and I am glad that you are. But I truely hope that you will reconsider breeding them and have them spayed/neutered and love and spoil them as your babies. I don't think you will ever regret doing that. Yorkies will love you and give you so much more in return than you will ever give them. As some others have said, please check into other ways to make some extra cash. I know people who do part time work cleaning homes and things like that for extra income. I hope you can find something other than breeding Yorkies to earn some extra cash. Good luck. Thanks for posting and I hope you stick around. I for one would love to hear more from you and see how your Yorkies are doing. |

Wow, I just read this whole thing! I was going to say shame on you, but glad to read that you are going to be responsible and bring those babies inside!!! Now, please be a responsible breeder and dont just breed for the money. Have the spayed and neuterd as they were obviously mill/byb quality dogs and have been through quite enough. |
please post pictures of your babies for us to see after there nice warm baths i truly hope you are on the up and up and really are going to bring your babies in and not just telling us this to shut us up anyway good luck with what you are trying to do also do you know how long it has been since they all had a good check up if you are going to breed |
Sorry had to take a break inbetween giving baths...I know the lady I bought them from gave their own shots so I'm not even sure when they had their last checkup but I have them one for thursday with my vet. and they are all getting pampered with grooming.... I can't wait to see them all shiny and pretty!!! the little male is so matted she said that she would probably have to shave him..I have a question about my little male...I don't want him spraying everything so where can I get the little belly pads? |
How many Yorkies do you have? I hope you post pics of them, I would love to see them. thanks |

can't wait to see pics of your babies. |
I am really glad you have decided to bring them in to join your family. Yorkies are so social, I cannot even imagine them outside all by themselves. Mine are so attached to me they don't like me out of their site for very long. I have told this story before but I'll repeat it for you. One of my girlfriends was out in her fenced garden with her doxie puppy when an Eagle swooped down and took off with her, there was nothing she could do and poor Daisy was gone just like that. Angel's mom Emalie (my youngest yorkie's mom) was outside one morning going potty when a coyote grabbed her and carried her away. I watch mine so very carefully, I am so afraid of something bad happening to them. They are my responsibility & I would be so devastated if something happened to them! We have hawks that carry jack rabbits off bigger then my dogs:eek: Welcome to YT & I hope you really do learn more about yorkies before you decide to breed them. |

Bless you for your re-thinking. I for one would like to say thank you for taking the advise of those who know. YOu will lean many wonderful things on this site. Enjoy your preciouse little ones. They bring so much joy and love. Welcome to YT. |

Any idea how old these dogs are and how many litters the females have had? Do you know if any have had c-sections? It sounds like you may have gotten them "on clearance" from a backyard breeder who may have already bred them as much as they should be bred. You'll need to get them all thorough physicals from your vet if they haven't been to the vet regularly. I suspect they all may need dentals. You may find that instead of making money from them, they may cost you money. |

I have chickens bigger then two of my Yorkies. And I have seen hawks zoom down on chickens and pick them up. And have read about these small dogs being picked up by owls and hawks. I go outside whenever mine go out. NO NO NO....dont just leave these babies outside ..please |

It appears to me that many are against kennels (I used to have this impression too) because of the awful ones we here about, or substandard ones we have seen. One could always do a search in this forum and see a couple pictures of some living quarters. |
I honestly don't know what to say....seriously... literally living in the backyard??? I really hope you have brought them inside but I'm really worried about this situation. I'm really worried about any puppies born from this situation and the families that will buy them. Breeding is not an easy business to make money. The only reason anyone should breed is to improve the breed, breeding the best examples possible...because they love the dogs and the breed. Breeding should never be done to make money (reputable breeders don't make much if anything) or just because you want your dog to have a litter. How much knowledge do you have of the Yorkshire Terrier? Do you know the standard by heart? Do you know what to look for in a dog to know if it's of quality to breed? Do you know what health tests must be done before breeding a dog? Do you know how common health problems are in this breed? Do you know that yorkies are being extremely overbred and most don't meet the standard anymore? Do you know how many unwanted dogs are euthanized in shelters each year? If you breed, please please please health screen your dogs before you even consider breeding them. Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined. It is WAY too common. Please bile acid test your dogs to make sure they don't have it...and you really need to know that all of the dogs in their lines are free of liver shunt up to 10 generations back as they could still be carriers. You also need to have them check for luxating patellas...this is way too common as well and costs thousands of dollars to surgically correct and is very painful for the dog. You also need to check eyes, ears, thyroid, hips, heart, kidneys, etc. Blood panels need to be done, a good physical exam must be done, and all of these things must be checked for and ruled out. If ANY of these issues are found (and I guarantee you that LP is a big possiblity) do NOT breed these dogs. Please please don't pass on genetic problems...it causes so much heartache for the family that buys the puppy, not to mention pain for the dog. I have a good friend that has recently spent almost $10,000 to fix her yorkie's genetic problem. I know others that have spent thousands to correct Luxating patellas. I know dogs that have died from renal failure, liver disease, diabetes, etc. Don't pass that heartache onto a family. Breeding is a HUGE responsibility and as a breeder, you have the responsiblity to only breed 100% healthy dogs. Also, just because you have a male and female doesnt mean they should be bred. They need to be excellent examples of the breed. A breeder doesn't have to show, but their dogs need to be "show quality"...meeting the standard and being beautiful examples of the breed. Pet quality dogs should not be bred. If your dogs don't clearly meet the standard, they don't need to be bred. I would never ever buy from a breeder that keeps their dogs in their backyard. No way No way. I'd RUN in the other direction. I also would never buy from someone breeding to make money. Anyway...I think my signature explains well how I feel about BYB's |

Again, I am very glad that you brought them inside. Hopefully, you will find all the answers you need on YT. |
IF, in fact, you are telling the truth and not just saying this to smooth ruffled feathers, you will find tons of help here and even those of us that had to be blunt with you will be here to help. you have been given great advice and i hope you have learned from it. You mentioned belly bands, those are great. Make sure you keep his private area clean tho and the bands washed up. Also, it would be smart to invest in some washable peepads since they are kennel dogs, they will be more likely to use these. here is where I get mine. http://www.valethics.com/ |
The Whole idea of Breeding for MONEY is sick anyway! I know a lot of people might get upset with me, BUT to get an animal, especially a little yorkie to place it OUTSIDE in the elements, for the sole purpose to make a dollar is sick! I am sorry, but these little dogs DO NOT BELONG OUTSIDE! |
