| Is it wrong to call breeders?? Ok let me just be upfront. I had honestly thought of breeding Diesel. He isn't fixed and to be honest it is only because I was scared to put him under. That being said I really don't know that I want to go through the hassle. He is very spoiled and I don't think he would take to another dog in the family. SO I decided to do some research on his pedigree anyway. I wanted to know how long his great-grandparents lived to be and maybe what there personalities looked like. Well I contacted his g-grandparents breeder and she was very nice. She said she was going to find a picture of them and send them. She was super nice I thought. Then I found one of his grandparents breeders. I called her and she said I don't have time to talk call back later. I said ok and then she kept talking. I let her know that Diesel was healthy and that I was just mainly curious as to how long his granparents lived. I assumed that if they lived a long life then they must have been healthy. Well she said that the dog I was asking about wasn't quite up to her standards(even tho he was bred enough to have a DNA #)so she sold him. Well you could hear dogs in the background barking and I mentioned it and asked what kind of dogs did she have. I meant to ask her breed. Well she hung up on me. Did I do something wrong? Is it a huge no no to ask questions? Well I called another breeder who was showing a dog that was breed by the same lady. She seemed to think that it was because she was busy and that she didn't have time to talk. She said she has about 100 dogs and 2 or 3 kennels . That didn't make me feel any better to be honest with you. But hey what can I do. Diesel is here now and he is healthy so I guess that is all that matters. Any opinions??? </IMG>

| I don't see anything you did wrong. It may have been that she was busy. Whatever the case, it's rude to hang up. Maybe somebody else will have a better answer |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I am a breeder who loves to talk about my dogs....but sometimes I get busy. If your puppy was sold as a pet, that may be why the breeder didn't want to get into a discussion... |

| Regardless, if the dog was sold as a pet or not, her behavior for a breeder or anyone was poor. If she was busy, a simple "may I call you back later" would have been nice and the breeders I know LOVE to talk about their lines. You did nothing wrong, she was rude. |

BANNED! | I am a breeder and can honestly say I don't mind a phone call at all. I will however tell you that my dogs come first and if I'm busy I may have to politely say can I call you back. I don't see you did anything wrong at all personally!! |

| You didn't do anything wrong. She's probably running a dirty operation and when you started asking questions about the kinds of dogs she had, she probably got scared she was being investigated and that's why she hung up. I was thinking about trying to contact Mr. Biggs' Breeder, but I never though to contact the breeder of his g-parents and such. Thanks for the idea!

| breeder I would talk to the actual breeder of your pet...pedigrees can get very watered down and some breeders feel if their dogs are the great.-grandparents they have little to do with your pet...it only takes one generation to totally change type... If your male is line bred, then that is quite different...then one breeder would be responsible for 3 or 4 generations... I do not mind talking to anyone, but when one of my dogs appear 3 or 4generations back it is hard to give much insight..some times it is the sheer volume of numbers...after 35 yrs, it was not unusual for me to get several calls a day from Yorkie lovers who wanted to chat...and many wanted to visit..I tried my best...I have had people ask if they would be "penciled" in to visit once a month, bring their Yorkie/Yorkies..like a play date... |

| I have people that bought my puppies a year ago call me sometimes and I try to answer them just as I would if they were still inquiring. but as YorkieRose said, I might not anything about dogs that appear far back in my line. My husband has always line breed his beagles. he gets calls all the time from people that have ended up with something from his line by way of someone else. but he can tell them anything about any of them. Guess that's the difference between his forty years of breeding and my limited experience with mine. he loves to talk dogs with the guys that call. i don't think you did anything wrong by calling. |

| So if I am looking to back to see what kind of traits Diesel might have taken on I don't need to go back that far? I have a 3 generation pedigree. So his pedigree shows this.. Diesel--- Dad, dad's parents, dad's grandparents mom "same", "same" I didn't realize that things can change that drastically after one generation. You always breeders mention that a pups color or weight and so on might be from down the line. To be honest since I'm not breeding Diesel I guess it doesn't matter but I just thought it would be neat to get some general info on his relatives. I know that i have a lot of the same characteristics of my granmother and honestly not many at all from my own mother. I just assumed it might be the same way with dogs. Anyway thanks for the help.

| breeder The breeder is the person who should have all this information for you. Of course, your boy has genes from his entire family tree, so if there were problems it would be good to know..there is nothing wrong in finding out as much as you can about his pedigree, but it is only the actual breeder who feels any responsiblity in this area IMO...and if you are asking about health problems the lien may be prone to...no one is going to tell you anyway...do I like it, no, but that is the way it is... |

| Yeah I didn't even bother to ask about health problems because I knew what kind of answer I would get. I did want to know how long they lived to be so that I would get at least an idea. I guess if I want to know anything else I will just get in touch with his breeder and go from there. I certainly didn't want to ruffle any feathers by asking them questions. Honestly tho, if I ever to decide to get him a brother or sister I won't be buying from any breeder in my area. They all know each other and the feeling I got wasn't a very good one. I understand people are busy and that really is ok. Would have been nice if she had offered to get my name and number and call me later. But oh well thats life I guess.

| I usually email that way they can answer at their convenience. I've spoken to the breeder of Connor's great grandmother on his dam's side as well as the gentleman at Exmoor where his great grandsire on his sire's side was bred. I've found the breeders to be very helpful when I'm doing a pedigree search. Maybe the phone got disconnected? Next time try email.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Sorry, my answer was quick last nite when no one was answering you. I think most breeders love to talk about their breedings, dogs, and provide information. But sometimes it is hard to remember way back when about specific dog's greatgrandparents. Emails do allow those who dont have much time to respond at their convenience or during down time. |
