| looking for a female yorkie before easter Hi, new to the boards! I checked out all of the breeders on Watchung and the referred breeders in my area and no one seems to have puppies at this time. Was wondering if anyone is a private breeder in the Monmouth/Ocean/Middlesex area...I wanted a female before Easter. I understand everyone has their set pricing, but I can't spend $2,000 on a puppy. I'm not interested in having a puppy whose parents were show dogs. I need a healthy puppy. We got burned once with a sick puppy which a liver shunt, so health first. Maybe in the $800 range? Thanks, |

| So, it's been over a week since I posted and I've been looking for over three weeks and I've finally hooked up with a well known breeder. Over the last few weeks I talked to a lot of "so called breeders". I found that many of people selling puppies or calling themselves breeders, and pretty much selling dogs from mills. I called a woman out in L.I and I always start off my conversations with asking the health of the parents and the bloodline. Once I told this woman I had a yorkie with a liver shunt she went on and on about how she was babysitting a yorkie who was begging for table food and feeding scraps could case that. I told her it was a genetic defect and it's present at birth. I was surprised that a breeder wasn't too keen on diseases that could affect the type of dogs they were breeding. So, I just wanted to throw out a bunch of names that raised red flags. There are a ton of advertisements all over the internet about a place back in Brooklyn called Mias Yorkies, Mollys Yorkies and NYC Yorkie. These are all the same place, and operate just steps away from the infamous Puppy Boutique (puppy petite) I read an interesting review on complains board. There is also a woman by the name of fran who is advertising home raised yorkies in staten island, yet when I cross checked her email and phone number up popped a site called ivans bulldogs with horrible reviews about dogs passing away and having health issues. And there was a woman out in here in nj. She also raises home bred puppies yet when I cross checked her email I found she was busted for being a solo prostitute in her home two years ao, and used breeding puppies as a source of income. I just want to warn anyone out there that if there are no puppies available at the moment, just wait it out. Any responsible breeder gives their females a break. That's being responsible. And ask TONS of questions. Ask about the parents, make sure they are on the premises. I found a girl in manhattan selling Yorkies with the mom and dad there too and she never took the puppies in for its shots and the price reflected this (those were her words!) Just be very careful and take the numbers and google them and google email addresses as well. You can find their whole "Online History" . I had this one woman out in north jersey tell me she had a litter, parents were hers, yet when I googled her # she was posting 3 different breeds of puppies and there were tons of postings on line from her since 2002! My dog had a liver shunt. In the beginning, her vet was pointing to hypoglycemia. After a year she got worst and I ditched him and found a new vet. After we bile tested her, they wanted to do exploratory surgery on her to see if the shunt was on the inside or outside. This is a big deciding factor on whether or not they do the surgery to correct the shunt. She was on a strict low protein diet, lactulose and at times I had to feed her with a syringe. When I told certain "breeders", they didn't want to bother with me after this. That's where the communication stopped because I want some type of guarantee now on a puppy, and if they can't answer and "blow me off" then there's something they are hiding. Also go with your gut. If it doesn't feel right then don't do business with that person. The lesson learned is that there are a ton of shady people selling yorkie puppies out there. Just very very sad. |

| A reputable breeder does genetic and health testing to make sure there puppies are as healthy as can be and have health guarantees. A reputable breeder usually sells pups from $1,000 to $2,000 cheaper pumps seem great but it normally means the breeder is skimping on there care and not doing health and genetic testing which means your more likely to get a sick pup. You should find a breeder and then wait for a pup if you have to. Is the pup supposed to be a gift? Have you tried the ytca.org?

| New to YT and also looking for a Girl YT Quote:
I'm in NJ too and have been going through the exhausting research process as well. I encountered the same info you did. I may be looking at a cute blonde parti this week from a small hobby breeder. My only hesitation is that the pup is expected to be 6lbs at full growth and I was looking for a 4-5lb range so that I can take her everywhere with me. May I ask who the breeder is that you finally found your puppy from and how much you paid? Also, can anyone here on the forum advise whether a 6lb YT can comfortably fit into a dog purse/bag? It's very difficult to tell size from pics. Thanks | |

| Hi Congrats on finding your new baby. I'm new to YT and came across the same exact info you did, however, I still have not found a puppy. I'm of the same mindset as you were when searching, esp re pricing. May I ask who the breeder is and how much their fee is?I'm looking for a girl in the 4-5 lb range. |

| just adding....my pups expected weight was 6-7 lbs (both parents are 7 lbs) yet she's only 4. She may still gain a little (according to the vet) and hit 5, or she could be done growing. So even though the breeder estimates a weight it doesn't always turn out that way. I will say that her 7 lb mom wasn't all that much bigger than her, but she was built more solidly. I don't think you'd find a 6 lb yorkie to be too big |

| I used to carry around Prince in a purse when I only had one dog and he was about 8 lbs at the time. It would get exhausting if he was in there for more than an hour or so....but I used to take him grocery shopping in his purse and I carried him the whole way. Ironically my 4 lb dog barely fits in the bag because he's much taller. |

| I have a small Yorkie and she has weighed 6lbs. She is currently down to 5 lbs and she has always fit nicely in a small carrying purse. She goes with me almost everywhere I go. Prissy (my babies name) is my profile picture. I hope this helps you. DebbieV |
